without a doubt my favorite expression of oolong tea. Caramel and licorice with a lingering rock mineral taste and mouthfeel that cuts through the sweetness tremendously. Worth every penny. Boil water to full boil and let sit for 30 seconds before steeping

Nope. This is not my style of tea. You really have to understand what you are getting into...do you homework and read the comments.

I bought this because i read online it is supposed to be great for studying - it definitely is. Not too strong of a flavor. I love it hot with a dash of stevia. Will definitely buy again - might mix it with a flavor next time! :)

One of my favorite teas. I love the minerality and astringency on this one. The initial steeping captures MUCH of my preferred minerality here. The subsequent steepings are fine, but they lose a bit of why I like this tea so much to begin with. Because of this, I actually tend to steep it with FEWER leaves and a longer time to pull ALL of those flavors out in one cup.
LOVE IT.

Definitely worth taking a moment to sit and appreciate instead of just an every day drinker. A very mineral driven tea with a light peachiness to it. Overall fantastic.

This oolong is great. It reminds me of those amazing oolong teas that are served at a fine sushi restaurant. Definitely has a mineral taste along with a peach fruitiness that makes for a beautiful cup of tea.

Has an earthy taste to it, almost mineral tasting in a good way. Has a delicate smokey kind of flavors to it.

Love this stuff. Not too much “mineral” or rock taste in my opinion - just love it.

Just re-ordered this tea. It just gets better with each cup.

I used 8 grams for ~200ml of boiling water for this tea. After a brief wash, I let it steep for 5, 10, 15 secs etc increasing each time by 5 secs. First and second infusions quite potent, a bit bitter, roasty, earthy and with a mineral, 'rock' taste. I would not say that the first infusions were soft or mellow as what Da Hong Pao is sometimes described as (which is more true for less oxidized oolongs). I could taste a subtle aftertaste in my throat, not immediately after drinking, but some minutes later. After third infusion the tea becomes more mellow and floral, just a bit, still quite as strong and mineral/rocky as the first two. I cannot attest to the quality since I haven't had many Da Hong Paos from other vendors but overall the tea brews well, smells good and is just as potent after 7 infusions. I am glad I tried it, although the strong mineral taste is something I didn't like too much. Good tea, just not quite to my liking.

The first brewing tastes like the freshest spring bubbled through granite to get to an outlet. It's outstanding. Very smooth and comforting. I did three brewings, all at 3 minutes, at 175, 195 and 212. The first was the best, followed by the third. In the third, there might have been a hint of minerality, but I'm picking up more fruit notes.

Very nice darker Oolong tea. This one is great if you like your Oolongs a little more 'roasted'. Nice smooth flavor.

This really does have a strong mineral 'wet rock' flavor, with a slight vegetal note. It isn't unpleasant, and I enjoyed trying something new, but I probably wouldn't order again.

I feel that this does not warrant the price. It's good, but you need a lot to make a good cup.

This is probably one of my most favorite teas to date from Adagio. I let this brew a little longer because it is a very subtle light tea and I tend to like my teas a little more on the strong side. I would definitely buy this one again, I love the subtle sweetness to it. This tea needs no sweetener or milk, it is perfect standing on its own. I just wish you could buy it in bags to refill the tin with a little savings of course!

Medium-bodied, and 'rocky' or 'minerals' describe it well. I agree with another reviewer who said she had trouble distinguishing between this and Wuyi Ensemble, however. Still, it was enjoyable.

Tried this one and Wuyi ensemble, while I did find this one a slightly more enjoyable tea, I did not notice enough of a difference to warrant the price difference.

Frankly, I am not one of the people that likes egg and or fishy taste in teas, which this has. So, in my opinion, this is quite bad for such an expensive tea. If you like drinking raw eggs in the morning and maybe the smell of fish markets you might like this tea.
Brewed at 130 milliliter of 205F and 195F of water on 6 grams of tea with infusions consisting of 25 seconds and adding 10 seconds after the 2nd infusion.

The leaves are as pictured with an indistinct scent when dry. They do unfurl into beautful whole leaves and brew to a pretty, clear citrine liquor, but the odor and taste is quite vegetal and... fishy. As in cod liver oil fishy. It may be the way my palate processes the mineral/vegetal taste of this particular tea? But I simply couldn t drink it. This was awful.

Not as good as one would imagine for the price. It's a good rock tea, but lacking in tasting and nosing notes especially when compared to the cheaper and more wonderful Formosa Bai Hao.

This is the first time I have been truly disappointed with an Adagio tea, and it s worse because this was classified as a Master s Tea. The leaves I received look nothing like the picture. A good oolong should have large, twisted or rolled leaves

Delightful tea with aromas of honey, fruit, and a faint floral quality. The taste is very upfront with the minerality but then yields to smooth stonefruit and warm peach. I like 2tsp. in 8oz. of 212F water for 3min.

This and the Sencha Overture have become my go-to's depending on the taste of the day. This is a very earthy tea. Dark oolong with a smoky hints. The taste like many have said here, is very mineral-like. I truly liked it from day one, and provided a calming essence, almost as if my body and soul longed for it. I would recommend the Fujian Rain if you want to taste a similar tea and are not ready to pony up the cash for this one. However, it is worth the money if you, if you like these type of teas.

Enjoyed the tea, but as others have mentioned I'm not sure how much better, if any, this is than non-masters Oolongs, which is why this is only getting a 3. I won't get this one again because of price, unlike some of the others masters I've had that do seem more premium.

Yup... This tastes like rocks. I didn't get much peach or pit-fruits, just rocks.
That said, I bought a tea called 'rock-taste,' so I don't know what I expected. And for some reason I kind of like it.

I'm already a fan of rock Oolongs, but this is the cream of the crop. Aside from the very obvious mineral taste, it has a very delicate, complex body; a light fruitiness (like peach) and a subtle but unexpected vanilla cream character. The texture is very smooth but full. What's more, Adagio sells older batches for a slightly more affordable price. I'm hooked!

Well, thank goodness for samples. I discovered that da hong pao, for all the hype, is not for me. Even though it is a roasted oolong, it leans a little too far into the floral green flavor profile for me. I prefer more darkness and smoke.

The fragrance of this tea is pleasantly earthy and woodsy, it reminds me a little of Palo Santo, and that perfume translate well into its flavor. Light and very smooth to drink, yet complex. It harkens back to eating in sit-down Chinese restaurants as a kid, dim lighting and red lanterns, and my first taste of an exotic tea that wasn't pekoe or assam based in a teabag. All around a pleasant, relaxing cup. The more I drank, the more astringency I had in my mouth, giving the tea a crisper finish at the end of the cup than its mellow start. Not an everyday tea for me, but more appropriate for a dinner, or to make a knockaround Sunday more relaxing and special. I bought this on sale and wholeheartedly don't regret the purchase, but it's definitely something I'd keep on hand in the sampler size for a treat rather than an everyday go-to. The more I drink it, the more obvious it is why this is a famed dark oolong. I wish my tea budget allowed for the largest size!

This is a great tea. A winner that trumps the competition. Huge flavor. Reminiscent not so much of black tea as a very high quality hoji cha. A complex flavor develops over multiple steepings. I love the subtle smokiness of this oolong tea with followup hints of peach and mineral taste. I find some oolongs a bit bland but this tea is a flavorful and complex cup. I'm looking forward to finding out what subsequent steeping will bring out in the flavor profile. Expensive but excellent.
