Ti Kuan Yin Customer Reviews

Legendary and beloved oolong tea from Fujian, China. Warm, soft and soothingly mineral in texture. Notes of toasted walnut and tender collard greens. Intriguing lingering floral aroma, lightly orchid, and gentle astringency. A meditative cup.

This Tea has turned out to be one of my favorites. I got a sample portion on a whim and was surprised by the smooth, rich but light flavor textures. This one has become a staple on my shelf!

★★★★★

I brewed my Ti Kuan Yin hot with some burdock and manuka honey. This is a funny-looking tea in the bag and expands a lot when you steep it. It also has a unique flavor that was a pleasant surprise for me! I thought this would be a plain tea, but it was not. It's very unique and difficult to describe. I look forward to pairing this with other flavors. I would highly recommend this tea!

I only gave this four stars because my husband did not care for it as much as I did. I noted a slight vegetal base with honeysuckle predominating. It is a bit astringent, which I don't usually find is present in oolong teas, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of it.

Absolutely delicious. Super light, but still has that little caffeine boost.

I've had a lot of ti kuan yin, from Adagio and other sources, and I have never had it taste like modly potato peels. However, Adagio refers to this as a 'slight variation' in flavor notes. Not sure I'll order this from Adagio again.

The Ti kuan yin tea had a Bold flavor. But was good with lemon.

This is by far my favorite oolong. The floral and mineral flavors work so well together. It is a complex cup and I can't get enough!

I love oolongs and this one is no exception. I ve tried 2 other TKY from Masters and this one is right up there with the other 2. Very sweet, floral, and extremely smooth. As usual with traditional teas, I enjoyed this one gong-fu style. It is one of the better teas from Adagio that I have tried. @adagioteas

I'm not a huge fan of green teas, but I ordered this because it is named after the Chinese goddess of love and compassion. I'm very new age spiritual and goddesses are a large part of my practice. I steeped it according to the directions on the package and it was a nice addition to my rituals.

★★★★★

This is part of my on going oolong tea routine. I switch it up with Jade or others sometimes but I always come back to this.

Surprisingly strong, full of flavor, slightly sweet and My daughter's favorite. Perfect pick me up.

★★★★☆

A little milder in flavor than I'm used to. Still nice and floral!

★★★★★

Lovely green oolong with slightly vegetal, mineral and floral flavors. A smooth mouth feel with a bit of an astringent finish. Delicious cup of tea that is good for a least a few steeps. Really love this tea.

Heavenly! The tightly rolled leaves unfurl to release the tea's essential oils as it steeps. Beautiful to watch in a clear pot! The opened whole leaves impart a sweet, rich floral flavor of a high quality 'green' oolong over multiple gongfu infusions. Must order more. Also, very tasty brewed western style.

From my boyfriend: 'It's good, it's tea. It's good tea.'

★★★★☆

I thought I had tried this tea in the past, but not liking the strong grassy flavor any more (the description is close with that 'collard greens' description. While I love to eat greens (vegetables), I am not fond of that flavor in the tea. Definitely more of a grassy/greens flavor. I still gave 4 stars as the flavors would be great if that's your 'cup of tea'. :)

Great tea with decent flavor profile and depth. reminds me of tea that they would serve in a chinese restaurant @adagioteas

★★★☆☆

Good, but too floral for my taste. Tastes strongly of orchid or jasmine. Would prefer a more traditional TKY flavor. @adagioteas

When I first steeped it - it was absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, after 2 minutes it has no flavor, or a barley flavor - no floral notes and it was not my cup of tea at all.

★★★★★

Very nice oolong, definitely on the greener side of the oolong spectrum. Very tightly rolled leaves completely unfurl into long strands when brewed. A light brew (much lighter than red oolongs) of pleasant herbal taste with gentle mineral notes. I get vegetal upfront (stewed spinach, peas or collard greens) with some very nice floral notes. This is good for multiple steepings. I do about 3 mins @195F (going up to 4 mins or more with subsequent steepings). Green tea lovers will definitely enjoy this one.

★★★★☆

Complex mineral flavor. It's good, but I don't know that it's worth the price. For comparison, Adagio's golden flower oolong is also really good and significantly cheaper.

★★★★☆

Tastes very floral, like lilacs or lavender even after many brews. The color is a very vibrant green which surprised me pouring it into the cup. If you pack too much into a teaball at once it may taste like you have a mouthful of soapy flowers so be careful with portioning.

★★★★★

I love this tea. It is the best. I would recommend this to a friend.

★★★★★

This tea is delicious. It has a very smooth and pleasant but light floral flavor. Excellent tea and highly recommended!

★★★★☆

I got the sample size of this tea, and am enjoying it. It's quite light and refreshing, and subsequent steeps are delicious.

★★★★★

Absolutely excellent. I had an opportunity to try this variety as a gift from a Chinese exchange student, and I loved it. Adagio's tastes exactly as I remember it: warming, a bit sweet, and very addictive.

This is a nice oolong that can be brewed many times. The leaves expand a lot. @adagioteas

I love this tea. So much. I have brewed using the recommended time and temp on the package, I've also had this the gungfu tea way, as well as in a quick hot bloom followed by a cold overnight infusion for iced tea and it is lovely every way. If you like deeply floral teas with minimal astringency, this is for you. Its hard for me to pinpoint the taste as it is so different from other teas I have tried so far, but I would say it is a very deep, round rosey kind of floral with minimal grassiness. IMO, the floral notes as less pronounce when cold, but hardly noticeable. It leaves a lingering scent in your nasal cavity, no strong astringent after feel at all.

★★★★★

This is my all-time favorite Oolong. The flavor is nutty on the first cup, green on the second, and gentle and delicate on the third. The flavor changes with each pouring, and is delightful throughout. Most of the time I'll go to about five cups throughout the day with the same leaves, but there's no reason you can't take this tea further than five. I've done eight out of the same tea leaves and been satisfied with the flavor. This is an extremely solid Oolong. It's the most expensive tea I purchase, but it's well worth the price.

Delicious though fairly mild flavor. It's a good one for people newer to tea.

Ah, poor tjy gets overshadowed by the fujian version, but both are perfectly lovely teas in their own right.

cold brewed 8 hours in the fridge. It's a nice tea but for a ti kuan yin it's very grassy.

I love oolong in general, but this one is so wonderfully floral and delicate. I generally get several steeps (2-3) out of each serving.

this is the nicest oolong, I have been thinking about the monkey picked oolong from teavana and finally after stumbling onto this site I have found a perfect, if not better, replacement!

Nice clean flavor. Best on the first steeping, need to add fresh leaves for subsequent steeps.

the best oolong i’ve ever drank, hands down! i got 7 steeps out of 4 tsp

Ti Kuan Yin is a must-try for any tea lover- one of these days I have to try the Fujian Masters version, but this one is top notch– high quality. I actually prefer this to a version of Iron Goddess I bought on a trip to China years ago.

Full bodied, delicious, with a mineral and herbal tang

There is a danger of oversteeping here- I once forgot about it for 15min and it can be bitter if so. But I do find a slightly higher temp (my kettle only does 190 or 200) is fine here.

Classic flavor. Oolong tea was my first loose leaf tea I ever had, I drank it exclusively for about 5 years. This tea doesn't disappoint, lovely floral notes woo your senses as the fesh green flavors hit your palate. Top grade stuff. This tea took me back a few years after the first steeping.

I was happy this tea came up as a CommuniTEA selection!  I probably wouldn't try it otherwise because of the price point.  I'd seen some reviews in advance saying the second steep was even better than the first, so i was prepared to be patient in letting this experience unfold!  The first steep had a gardenia aroma, stronger than i expected for first steep based on some of the comments/reviews, though the taste wasn't floral to me.  I wasn't feeling it at first, but as it cooled a bit I started to enjoy it more.  This tea had a soft almost buttery mouthfeel, slightly nutty, slightly vegetal, slightly mineral.  None of these components was a strong flavor or element for me.  I got the collard greens and walnut in the description as the flavor that sort of lingered in my mouth after the mineral finish.  I do agree with other reviewers that second and third steeps were smoother and more delicious than the first!  I drank most of the second steep cold (distracted by life chaos) and it was quite nice that way even!  Ti Kuan Yin didn't come out a favorite for me, as there are a few other oolongs and floral teas I prefer, but I was glad to have this experience.  (3 mins@195º first steep; 2.5 mins additional steeps)

I became a fan of this tea after I tried in it the communitea box, and immediately ordered more. So good.

I love watching this tea unfurl. It creates a light green broth that is smooth and vegetal that is pleasant to sip. I get multiple infusions from this tea while the leaves keep expanding. This is a great early afternoon tea for me, with the last resteep right when I need to switch to caffeine-free. This is a great green-leaning oolong.

Update: Is this the same tea I tried last time? I'm taking short 1m30s steeps and the first one was way more flavorful than I remember. Walnuts and collards is a spot-on description, as is rating the astringency as mild. There's a slight drying action in my mouth, but nothing approaching what I'd call 'brisk'. The second steep isn't as rich, but the florals come to the front and present a symphony of tastes and scents compared to the homey greenness of the first cup.

I've never had a tea that got better the more steeps you take of it, until this one! The first cup was surprisingly bland, with hay notes predominating. Subsequent steeps reveal more of the floral and mineral notes, making the tea taste more and more distinctively like an oolong. What a fun and interesting experience!
