The initial smell while brewing is so strong- I was a bit worried, but it was unwarranted! This tea is perfectly balanced!
Invigorating grapefruit and fruity Taiwan oolong. Zesty and warming, full-bodied and slightly dry finish.

The initial smell while brewing is so strong- I was a bit worried, but it was unwarranted! This tea is perfectly balanced!
To be honest I wasn't looking forward to trying this tea. I like grapefruit, but in TEA? that just sounded weird. However I was very pleasantly surprised! The tea tastes like what cutting into a grapefruit smells like. It's mildly tart but not overwhelming or 'pucker-y'. It's refreshing and very tasty. Smooth and with no bitterness. I enjoyed it hot without any additions but I bet it would be great iced as well. If you like the flavor of grapefruit, give this tea a try! 4 min @ 212
Lovely grapefruit flavor rounded out nicely with oolong, holds up well with milk and sugar.
I’m very glad I waited until now to write my review. I brewed it at 195F for 3 minutes. The first couple of sips were strongly grassy to me and I didn’t like it. I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, but it was only slightly less grassy. I switched over to another tea and left this one just sitting there. After awhile, when the tea was mainly room temp, I sipped again. The grassiness was gone and I could taste the grapefruit, making it a much nicer sip. This might have also work as an iced tea but I only had the one packet.
A lot of grapefruit teas have a strong smell that doesn't end up translating into taste once it's brewed. Not the case here! The grapefruit flavor in this tea is quite strong, so I enjoy it. But if you don't really like grapefruit, I would steer clear.
This was a nice, smooth tea. I love grapefruit teas. Nice after lunch pick me up. Added this to my wishlist.
CommuniTEA portion: Steep 3 minutes at 195. I was slightly apprehensive about this tea as I'm not a grapefruit fan in the least. I was proved wrong. Lovely oolong with a light citrus note. If actual grapefruits tasted like this, I would be in! 😁
The aroma of grapefruit was spot on. Nice, smooth and easy drinking tea, no bitterness. 5 minutes, 1/2 tsp sugar.
I'm split on this tea. The grapefruit flavor is very forward and fresh tasting (which I like). The oolong is decent and pairs somewhat reluctantly with the citrus flavor. I find the flavors competing for center stage rather than existing in harmony. I'd need to try a few more cups to really decide where I land on this, but I'm leaning more towards 4 than 3 stars, so that's where we're at!
I truly enjoyed this tea. The grapefruit flavor was very nice. I will be trying this cold brewed next time.
I wouldn’t choose grapefruit flavor on my own, but this does taste as expected, with a nice, smooth grapefruit flavor. I enjoyed hot with some agave.
I wasn't sure about this as grapefruit isn't my favorite but this was really good! Both the grapefruit and oolong were relatively light, but the grapefruit was there enought to give a nice citrus flavor throughout.
Communitea: I really enjoyed this tea. The Grapefruit was a refreshing contrast to the Oolong flavor. I bet this is great iced on a hot day.
I added 1 tsp of tea sugar and 1 tsp of fruit tisane honey to my 12 oz mug as I waited for my tea water to reach 212° F. I steeped my tea for 3 minutes. Initially I forgot to put the tea leaves in, only noticing it after I had steeped my tea sugar and honey for three minutes! I added the tea leaves and turned the timer back on for steeping. Due to this error, the tea was probably actually steeped 3 minutes at 200° F.
I was hoping that this tea would surprise me like the Passionfruit Tea did and I added the fruit tea tisane honey to try and replicate that success. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice and I found this tea to be too cloyingly sweet for me to finish.
If you like tropical fruits, particularly grapefruit, this may be the tea for you. I don’t care for tropical fruits, so this tea did not have a very good chance of success with me.
Earthy oolong flavors stand out throughout the sip with buttery and malted cocoa notes. On the aftertaste, subtle and smooth grapefruit flavor appears, adding a bright offset to the oolong. I honestly dreaded tasting this tea, since I find grapefruit to be really astringent and overwhelming in teas... but I really enjoyed this blend!
A pleasant oolong tea that is best sweetened with a bit of honey in my opinion. Grapefruit flavor is definitely there but not overpowering.
I'm not a fan of oolong teas, but I do enjoy grapefruit flavored teas, so I'm on the fence about this blend! I enjoyed a few sips of the brew before the oolong disagreed with me. 3 mins @ 200°F
When I opened the packet I received a burst of the tangy scent of grapefruit. It brought back memories of eating scones with grapefruit marmalade in a tea shop in Cambridge, England. I love the smooth taste and the golden color of the brew. Lovely reminder of a wonderful trip I took 31 years ago. A trip that included a front row seat to see Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip when they arrived for dinner at the place I was staying. A fitting blend for the passing of a Queen. RIP Elizabeth II
My packet let off a lovely grapefruit scent when I opened it. I was so bewitched that I dumped it right in my cup before bagging it. Haha. I already had put some creamer in my mug (lately I want to turn every citrus into a creamsickle), but no sweetener, and started sipping. I found it interesting and I would try it again. I added a pinch of organic Florida crystals and that make it pop a bit more. I hadn't had oolong in years and I forgot it's unusual herbaceous flavor. Enjoyable! The citrus was mild and not artificial or 'too much' at all.
Today's CommuniTEA is Grapefruit Oolong (9-9-22). Upon opening my packet, I had plenty of every ingredient! I brewed it hot with some garden herbal honey. It was the perfect combination of sweet and acidic. I really loved it and would highly recommend this tea!
UPDATED from 8/8/20: There is a real grapefruit aroma coming from the CommuniTEA packet. It steeps at a slightly lower temp into a beautiful amber color. Delicious, fresh tasting, this is a lovely oolong, with the lightest taste of grapefruit. It smells stronger than it tastes, but the flavor is so refreshing on the tongue, and the oolong gives the flavor such fullness. Adding 1/4 teaspoon of sweetener (to 10 oz) brings out the great citrusy grapefruit flavor more. This now has the great sweet/tart flavor of the real fruit. It is delicious hot, and very nice as an ice tea. So glad I purchased it. Steeps well more than once, as well. (3 mins @ 200ºF + sweetener).
The Vanilla Oolong is one of my favourites from Adagio, and I believe this uses the same base, so it was already a winner in my book. The grapefruit is not overwhelming, just adding a nice, fresh, zesty punch to a solid base. Definitely one of my favourites from my CommuniTEA boxes!
The grapefruit was obvious from opening the bag. Once steeped, the grapefruit addition makes the smooth oolong bright and cheerful. This would be lovely to drink in the morning with breakfast.
I suspect if you like grapefruit this is very pleasant as the grapefruit taste is dominant. There is a tingly bitterness that I get with the fruit. There is a silkiness to the oolong but I really do not get as much oolong flavor. Not a tea for me but possibly for others if you like the fruit.
Very smooth and bright. The grapefruit is perfectly balanced with the oolong - not overpowering and not completely lost. The hint of grapefruit lingers after drinking. I particularly appreciated the lovely scent on opening the packet. Very refreshing and a good way to start my morning.
Don't just move oolong!
Stop and sip some tea with me!
How about grapefruit!
Two bold flavors meet
See how well they get oolong!
Let's all get oolong!
OR
Fragrant of grapefruit
Soft, dry, mineral, tasty
Breathe after each sip!
(silly or serious haiku review)
I am not getting much (if any) grapefruit flavor with this tea. All I taste is the oolong. I did smell grapefruit when I opened my CommuniTEA packet, and there were pieces of grapefruit in the packet.
Updated 9/9/2022 - The scent of grapefruit is definitely stronger than the flavor, but the brightness definitely shines through the smooth oolong flavors. This is a tea that I need to use more than what is in one CommuniTEA packet to enjoy. So, if you are disappointed with the flavor, try a sample packet and make a stronger brew. It really makes a huge difference!
Okay, full disclosure. I really don’t like grapefuit. It’s actually one of the few things I absolutely, categorically, refuse to eat. Given that, I opted not to open my package and drink my tea. Instead I tasted my daughter’s. Unfortunately, my dislike of grapefruit made liking this tea an impossibility. I’m going to give it a 3, because it isn’t fair to rate something poorly based on my dislike of an ingredient. I will say that if a person enjoys grapefruit, I think they will, potentially, really enjoy this tea.
Strong grapefruit aroma upon opening the package. I expected a strong grapefruit flavor but instead the grapefruit blends really nicely with the oolong and orange. Very refreshing tea.
Lovely, multiple-steep, grapefruit oolong. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
This is one of my favourite teas on the website!
I love real grapefruits. I used to eat them frequently with a sprinkle of brown sugar over the cut tops. Unfortunately, a particular class of medication meant they were off my diet. I was leery of trying this tea as a result-- didn't know if there would be a medication conflict. I finally tried a sample, taking care to note any potential physical effects. Not experiencing any, I've opted to enjoy this tea from time to time. It's not a daily tea for me, but it's no longer off the menu. I like it a lot better than the seemingly more popular Blood Orange; Grapefruit Oolong is no less citrus but IS more subtle. Probably less versatile than Blood Orange, but very tasty nonetheless.
I had high hopes for this one, but the balance was off. I think this may have been better as a grapefruit white tea or even green (even though I don't care for green teas).
Better than its grapefruit black tea counterpart. The flavor of the grapefruit comes out in this blend.
This is my newest hot addiction. I can't seem to get enough of it. Sent samples to three different people, age 23, 39 and 51. Each one of them loved it and it was the first of their samples to be used up. Back again, still loving this tea, occassionally throw a little peach in with it
New favorite. Great grapefruit flavor and aroma. Fruity but not tangy.
I am obsessed with everything grapefruit and oolong is my favorite family of tea, so of course I HAD to try this. I do find the grapefruit flavor to be a little fleeting, but that may be me, because I like really strong grapefruit flavors. It's still excellent and I will buy it again.
Oolongs are hit or miss for me, and this one is a miss. The base tastes too much like green tea for my taste, so if you're more of a black tea drinker the grapefruit doesn't cover up the grass taste.
I’ve been looking for a good grapefruit tea and it goes well as an oolong tea.
This is my favorite oolong so far. The grapefruit flavor is really satisfying. It's also a hit with students I see in my office.
Love this ! It has great flavor and aroma, couldn't be happier.
Grapefruit flavor is very mild but the aroma is very pleasing
A new favorite! Perfect for a spring/summer afternoon. Immediately purchased a 2 oz package for one of my canisters after trying a sample first. The grapefruit is not too overwhelming/bitter and it's a nice delicate cup overall.
I love the grapefruit flavor, and the oolong is the perfect complement! It smells fantastic. I highly recommend it
Brewed cold and also used to flavor water kefir in a second fermentation. Liked it cold, but it was great in the water kefir! Tasted like grapefruit soda. Will most likely buy again.
This is a good tea if you want a bit of caffeine but not much. It should have a stronger grapefruit flavor though. It does have a clean bright flavor.
Good. A little too mild tasteing for me. I wanted more grapefruit aroma. @adagioteas
I steeped it a little longer and the taste came through better.
Really nice tea, the grapefruit flavor comes out well if you let it cool a bit.
I tried a sample of this wanting a nice ice tea with a little citrus flavor. It's a very nice oolong iced tea, but the grapefruit flavor is very subtle. I don't think I would enjoy it as a hot tea and although it's a nice enough iced tea, I don't think it's special enough to purchase more than my sample bag.
One of my favorites. The smell alone is enough to make me love it. It is so citrusy and delicious.
