Formosa Oolong Customer Reviews

A darker oolong tea from Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa (which means 'Beautiful'). Deep raisiny and ripe fruit aroma, autumn 'leafy' note. The lingering flavor and smooth, refreshingly fruity astringency and a lovely introduction to Taiwanese tea.

★★★★☆

A very pleasant tea. Not as strong as some black teas, but pleasant.

★★★★☆

I like this tea. The flavor of oolong teas is prevalent.

★★★☆☆

I was somewhat disappointed. I was expecting a an aromatic lighter brew with the delicate body & tones that typify oolong. Although not unpleasant, this oolong wasn't very memorable. It was reminiscent of the tea served in Chinese restaurants.

★★★★☆

I tried this as an ice tea and loved it! Perfect flavor. Not too strong, yet tasty!

I bought a few oolongs to try this summer, and this has been my favorite to make iced tea with. It's not especially complex or distinctive, but it's very pleasant iced, especially with a bit of lemon.

One of my favorite blends of all time, this particular mix is perfect, especially iced.

★★★★★

My favorite oolong. Delicious hot or cold as a great starter oolong.

Too grassy for my taste. Not bad, but nothing special.

★★★☆☆

I was somewhat disappointed while sampling this variety. I was expecting a lighter brew with the delicate body and tones that typifies oolong. Instead this variety was somewhat dark and heavier tasting. Although not unpleasant, this variety was not very noteworthy. It was reminiscent of black tea served with Chinese food.

Another oolong, but I'm still waiting for one that will knock my socks off with the first whiff. still waiting.

★★★☆☆

It wasn't as strong and flavorful as other oolongs.

★★★★★

This was delicious. I m an official convert of the Church of Ooolong.

★★★★★

I love oolongs, and I love toasted flavors. I would definitely recommend trying this tea out if you tend towards more roasted flavors.

This is a very good oolong tea. Light and tasty and I will keep this in my tea rotation.

Chinese restaurant from the 1970's one reviewer said. They nailed it smells good one steep is good but goes flat.

Has an earthy brothy texture and flavor that seems to coat your tongue.

The dry tea smells like sweet cranberries. The liquor is dark reddish brown with a pleasant earthy mineral scent. The flavor is minerally with sweet fruity notes. This is a mild tea for how dark it is. Flavorful, but not overpowering and a perfect complement to a light meal. It reminds me of a classic Christmas tea without the spice.

★★★★★

This is a really good tea. I really like it a lot.

★★★★☆

I like this tea, it is a good oolong but it is not one I would like to drink on a more consistent basis. I have brewed between 190-212F between 1-5 minutes. This tea is best brewed for 1 minute at 200F in my opinion. You can rebrew if you like.

★★★★☆

This was a solid, full bodied, flavorful, dark, great tasting oolong tea. I think it s a great introduction to those who are looking to try oolong.

★★★★★

Already one of my very favorite teas, this one definitely lives up to my expectations. Called by someone 'the champaign of teas' or something, it is my favorite oolong. I prefer it in the evening.

Very much a fall tea. Quite earthy with a touch of sweetness.

★★★★★

I really enjoyed this Oolong. It’s a great tea to drink while you are working. This taste isn’t overwhelming, but complex enough to be very enjoyable. It’s a comforting tea. The smell is reminiscent of wet leaves/leaf piles in a pleasant way. I will buy this tea again.

★★★★★

I love this for my everyday tea. I drink it slightly sweet and it's perfect any time of day.

★★★★☆

it was quite bitter and smokey. I loved the taste.

I brew gong fu style and loved the hearty of the Oolong smooth in flavor

★★★★★

A lovely tea akin to what they sometimes serve before the meal in Chinese restaurants. Easy to drink and refreshingly bitter.

★★★☆☆

I'm not feeling this oolong, I get hints of earthiness and some fruity and floral notes but nothing substantial. It's like it has all of the background but there's no body to it. I figure it will blend well with something that is single note and all body but as a solo it's not doing it for me.

★★★★☆

Very nice, fruity tea. I like it especially with a little honey in it.

★★★★☆

I feel like it s a classic flavor. Nothing too weird.

It s very fragrant and it s a bit stronger than other oolong I ve tried from Adagio.

★★★★★

Strong flavor, but not overpowering. Great to mix into the rotation!

★★★★☆

This is a good tea, but I didn’t find it very exciting. It’s malty and tastes more like a back tea than an oolong. It’s not floral or fruity at all. It’s not bad, but there are other teas I would probably pick first.

★★★★★

This is an oolong that is closer to a black tea than green. Definitely some toasted flavor in the tea.

A nice earthy tea. I did not notice the floral or fruity notes, but it had an almost dense soft bite to it that I really enjoyed. Clean and leafy. A perfect after dinner cleanser.

★★☆☆☆

This tea is very basic to me and nothing exciting

★★★★☆

This puts me in mind of a pleasant after dinner tea at a nice sit down restaurant

Strong earthy and leafy notes.Raisin after note is strong too with a slight sweetness to it. I do not smell or taste anything floral. Overall, it is a good cup of tea but I prefer the Jade Oolong. It is lighter and not so earthy tasting. I brewed it for 4 min at 212 degrees F.

★★★★☆

It's very nice. I overseeped it a bit, which is my fault, so it got ever so slightly bitter and I added sugar to adjust. The resulting taste is a smooth, almost honey-like flavor. Really, really nice.

★★★★☆

Delicious, sweet, satisfying cup of tea. Fruity notes.

★★★☆☆

This reminds me of the tea I would get in Chinese restaurants in the 1970’s. It is very earthy, a little bit nutty and a very slight raisin sweet after taste.

★★★★☆

Flavor-wise this tea is pretty nice - it's true that it has a fruity sort of glow to it, like raisins or some other dark, dried fruit notes. It also has the impression of deep woods - that moist and dark freshness that's very specific to being surrounded by trees. It's an interesting flavor profile, to be sure. Unfortunately, for me, the fermented oolong flavor is also there - and my weird tendency to get splitting headaches from oolongs continues to exist. So this isn't a tea I will buy intentionally, but I do think it's a good oolong, if that's a thing you are looking for!

★★★★☆

I definitely get more 'autumn leaves' than fruit in the aroma. I did not get much fruit or astringency in the taste either, but a pleasant chord of roasty and malty notes. A satisfying oolong.

I was anxious about this tea, as the previous oolong I have in my CommuniTEA back was not drinkable, in my opinion. This one lacked the overly floral aroma and instead was rich and smooth, with a bit of an earthy flavor. I imagine it would be great with honey, but I drank it before I had that thought.

Very toasty comfort-tea on a chilly morning. Tasted more like Hojicha than what I've experienced as oolong. A bit one-note and didn't last many infusions gong-fu brewing--would probably stick with western style next time. Would be a go-to tea for camping/outdoors.

★★★★★

Really enjoyed this tea. I have oolong before and was underwhelmed, but this tea has more body while being very smooth. This would be the perfect tea for a midafternoon pick-me-up!

★★★★★

A perfect oolong. Just what I am looking for in an oolong.

★★★★☆

I enjoyed this oolong tea. It has a light flavor which is quite pleasing. I generally prefer teas that aren't quite this mellow so, while the taste was enjoyable, it didn't make my taste buds zing. I won't be restocking this one.
