Formosa Oolong Customer Reviews

A darker oolong tea from Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa (which means 'Beautiful'). Deep raisiny and ripe fruit aroma, autumn 'leafy' note. The lingering flavor and smooth, refreshingly fruity astringency and a lovely introduction to Taiwanese tea.

Close your eyes, and sip; Bare feet absorb energy; earthy richness flows (Haiku Review)

This is the perfect roasted oolong, best sipped slowly on a frost autumn morning. The toasty aroma has notes of fall leaves and a subtly sweet, rich nuttiness. There is a mineral quality to the taste, no bitterness and little astringency. There is also a slight hint of a dry peach flavor that blends into the finish beautifully. This will become a staple for sure.

I get a very mild raisin and fall leafy aroma. Bold, smooth and very flavorful. No sugar needed. Easy on the palate.

I'm a big fan of the less-oxidized Taiwan oolongs. This was a very interesting oolong though. Rich and full of flavor. Very 'brown' tasting, with autumn leaves and a hint of mineral and tiny bit of sweet, like molasses. I didn't taste any fruit, but enjoyed the moderate astringency.

I love this tea! Very earthy and full-bodied oolong.

This just isn’t my thing. With so many delicious blends that Adagio has, I get very disappointed when the tea of the day is not a dessert or fruit blend.

The scent of this tea reminds me of fall leaves with just a touch of sweetness in the background. Lovely! Brews into a smooth, flavorful cup somewhere in the middle between oolong and black. The blend of flavors is amazing...woodsy and a bit malty, with background nuances of nuts and fruit. Just the right touch of sweetness. Lovely cup of tea! Easily got 3 steeps from the packet. Flavorful, smooth and relaxing!

If less oxidized oolongs are like spring or summer, this one screams of autumn. Deep and earthy, amber, tasting roasted or even burnt, it has a sweetness of caramel and orchard fruits present just at the finish. It comes across as a mix between a smooth black tea and a moist pile of leaves - not my favorite. Perhaps a nice starting place for blending flavored oolongs, or a malty iced tea for my dark-oolong inclined husband, this one didn't bring me many great brews and won't be seeing my teapot again any time soon.

This tea tasted at some points like a good oolong, and at other points like a sweet black breakfast tea. I’m a little confused writing this review, because it’s not really what I think of as oolong - but I’m going to give it five stars, because whatever it wants to be in life, it is doing well. This tea is tasty and good.

I tried a Formosa Oolong sample from another vendor, I decided to get it from Adagio and I love the flavor. I add a little sugar but not much as it's such a flavorful tea!

Great everyday oolong. Highly oxidized, brews a smooth cup.

I've had several oolongs from here and this one is good but it just isn't doing anything for me. It is definitely not a strong tea and you have to use extra to get a decent taste from it. Guess I was expecting more.

★★★☆☆

Have to be in the mood to drink this tea nowadays, but still delicious!

I had this today to warm me up on a cold winters day. I found this to be a nice tea. This would work well as a blending base or drank plain on its own. I don’t tend to put anything in my tea (sugar, milk, etc) and this is one that doesn’t need anything added to be enjoyed. Very happy with this one.

This is a very smooth drink. I usually need sugar, but this was great to go as is :)

★★★★☆

This is a delicious light oolong tea. It is not super strong but still gives a nice woody floral flavor of oolong. Would recommend for beginners to oolong.

★★★☆☆

Not the most tasty tea out there. Definitely would not recommend as a first tea

★★★★☆

It's okay. I'm not a huge fan of oolong teas and this was about par

Almost like a black tea I had a couple of cups every afternoon this month while working It reminds me of the tea that was served in a local Chinese Restaurant years ago

I enjoyed this tea quite a bit. It has nice earthy notes and maybe even a touch of sweet cinnamon and fruity tone on the finish. I got 2 steepings out of this that were great, the third was a little weak. (2:15, 3:30, 5:00) I'd say for the price a worthwhile pickup occasionally.

A nice dark oolong with notes of toasted leaves. I had some oolong from Africa back in the 1970s which was like this. It reminds me of a brown paper grocery bag, but in a good way. I was searching for this flavor profile for a very long time and I'm happy to find it.

★★★★☆

Very nice tea! I found it quite smooth. Not quite my favorite oolong, but a solid choice.

Indeed some raisin like notes, or dried sweet berry. A faint underlying flavor akin to maté. Not sure what to call it, lightly roasted straw perhaps. All in all not really my cup of tea. A bit boring and monotone, with little that stands out. No apparent flaws either though. 4 grams @ 6 ounces

Rich and malty, hits all the right notes that I'm looking for when I reach for an Oolong. I'll definitely be keeping this on hand in my collection!
Added bonus: it totally held up when I accidently forgot about it whilst steeping and over brewed it.

Flavorful and smooth. Like most oolongs, works well for multiple infusions. Slightly darker (and less floral) than many of the other oolongs that Adagio offers, which is a plus for me.

Opening the packet there is a heavy dark scent—like raisins, as the description says. Brews a clear deep orange, with a woody and toasted grain aroma. Woodiness also dominates the flavor and brings hints of smoke. (I wonder if this is what hot non-alcoholic whiskey would be like). Possibly a good choice for black tea drinkers looking to explore oolong.

Very floral and delicious! Also a very light tea which is great.

I'm fairly new to the world of oolong teas and I really like this -- very smooth, fruity, notes of honey...it's good! I mixed this with some Assam and Lapsang Souchong teas to make a Russian Caravan-style blend and it came out great.

Straightforward, staple oolong--seems classic to me. Very nice to have in my collection.

★★★☆☆

This was an ok, pretty classic tasting oolong. I will definitely finish off the sample I got but it doesn't really stand out or make me want to buy it again

★★★★★

I am not usually an oolong kinda girl but this was super smooth and I enjoy it after dinner.

★★★★★

Woah! this is such a lovely combo of an easy to prepare oolong tea (steeped at a black tea 212 degrees) with the intense astringency of a black tea, but with the sweet smoothness of an oolong. I can definitely see the raisiny and leafy notes. I love this tea! Super fabulous and very impressed with it.

Great tea, with nice blend and smooth finish. Had a cup of it as soon as it arrived!

My bestie is a fan of Oolong tea and had me try some Milk Oolong. I can see why she's a fan. Of course - I immediately came here looking for some more types of Oolong tea. Love this one, very smooth, easy to drink. A nice morning tea or mid-afternoon 'I want to curl up and read a book' tea.

★☆☆☆☆

This tea literally tastes sour, like lemon sour. It was really unpleasant when I brewed it gongfu. Looks like I'll only be able to brew it western style since I add lemon juice already. But honestly, the sour flavor just overrode everything else for me. I don't recommend it at all.

★★★★☆

This is a good, classic, dark oolong. It’s tolerant of less-than-accurate water temps and steeping times, and offers a lot of the character of a black tea, but with a bit less richness. This often ends up being my early-afternoon tea, when I’m moving away from black teas but have not quite transitioned into lighter, more soothing options.

A simple tea, but great for getting into loose leaf tea. Both me and my friend used this tea as an introduction to loose leaf and Chinese teas and we both enjoyed it greatly. Nice astringency and fruitiness.

To me, this tasted about like everything you'd expect from a standard oxidized oolong. It seems pretty 'vanilla' to me in the sense that it doesn't branch into as many specific ranges of flavor as some other oolongs, but still has a good quality and multiple infusions are still unique. I personally enjoy the Fujian Rain more than this, but it's good nevertheless.

Light and toasty oolong, not as strong as other oolongs. It was a nice, refreshing cup and also good iced! Would recommend as a starter for getting into oolong teas.
