Formosa Oolong Customer Reviews

A darker oolong tea from Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa (which means 'Beautiful'). Deep raisiny and ripe fruit aroma, autumn 'leafy' note. The lingering flavor and smooth, refreshingly fruity astringency and a lovely introduction to Taiwanese tea.

This is a wonderfully smooth tea with a natural sweetness to it. I can brew it 4-5 times and still have an unbelievably lovely cup of tea. Definitely a favorite :)

★★★★★

I've bought this tea twice, first in a small sample bag and then a bigger package. It's nice and light, but has a small bite to it. Sometimes I mix it with a white tea and it's perfect. Great Oolong tea to try, if you are unfamiliar with that type.

★★★★★

I loved this oolong. It has a wonderful taste and will brew a second cup as tasty as the first. Smells wonderful, just like a cup of tea should smell!

This is one of my favorite tastes. However, you have to use a lot of it to get it to a satisfying strength.

★★★★☆

I have fallen in love with Taiwanese high mountain tea. Light-yet-rich.

★★★★★

Nice well rounded brew, steeped gonfu stlye in claypot and very honeylike with good nut aftertaste

i dont know if i just made a weak cup of tea but it tasted pretty bland. not bad but not what i like in an oolong

★★★★☆

I like this tea a lot. It's a light tea that makes a good cup early in the morning

★★★★☆

A rather nice oolong, although I've had much better.

★★★☆☆

I wasn't a big fan of this flavor but it's not bitter like the oolongs that are more fermented and closer to black tea on the Oolong spectrum.

★★★★★

Love this. Very clean tasting with a slight nutty flavor.

★★★★★

A very good everyday oolong. It has a medium woody taste something like fallen autumn leaves or bark. Wonderful aroma and good for multiple infusions (Gongfu style). The tea is smoothed out significantly when brewed in a yixing teapot. Highly recommended for everyday enjoyment.

★★★★★

This is the first oolong that I have tried, and I quite like it. Not surprisingly, it taste like a darker, earthier green tea without some of the grassy taste some green teas have. It doesn't handle multiple steeps well, but the first cup is excellent.

This was absolutely delicious and couldn't have asked for some thing more delicious to sample on while i was at work.

dry leafs have a complex nutty roasted chocolate nose. but an interesting oxidized red tea flavor that fades to a familiar black tea aftertaste in the cup. complex and delicious i will be back

I have to admit that this is a tea that I blend with other teas. It adds substance to softer flavered, or overly fruity teas and helps soften the really strong spiced teas.

★★★★★

Lovely oolong that reminds me of the lovely tea farms in China.

★★★☆☆

This was one of the first oolong teas I've tried. A little more bitter than I expected, and didn't really pick up the 'deep raisiny and ripe fruit aroma'. I brewed to the directed time/temp.

Not a bad tea by any means, but just not for me.

★★★☆☆

This tea is decent. It has a pleasant scent, a mild earthy-leafy flavor, and is somewhat reminiscent of 'restaurant tea.' Fans of certain cartoons may refer to tea as 'hot leaf juice', and this one really invites that description. It is more assertive than some, but less striking than the greener oolongs. There is nothing floral about it. It tastes like an autumn day, not a spring one. I have tried it at every temperature from 180 to a boil, and I have to say that this is one to boil, preferably gongfu style.

★★★★☆

I steeped this three times, one at 3 min, one at 4 min and one at 5 min because the directions say '3-5 min' and I wanted to find out which one was the best for this tea. Three minutes yields a brew that is mild and nice but nothing special- no reason to go out of my way to find it again. Four minutes gives a stronger, slightly more astringent cup- still very pleasant- with more of the 'leafy' taste. Five minutes is best in my opinion. The astringency smooths out and the taste is much deeper and richer. I won't insist that I always have this in my cabinet but it's a good alternate if my favorites are unavailable.

Surprisingly pleasant and smooth earthy flavor. Tastes much better when you let it cool down to a lukewarm temperature.

★★★★★

Very good oolong with smooth, earthy flavors. More like a black tea than a green. Good to enjoy it after a meal.

★★★★★

This one is a staple in our house! It is a favorite of everyone!

★★★★☆

very good oolong. I love oolong and this is making my list.

★★★☆☆

I cannot compare to other formosa oolongs but compared to other oolongs I've had, this one is quite bland and closer to black tea. I'll agree about the autumn and leafy taste advertised, but these tastes are quite mild.

★★★★★

A slightly stronger oolong, much more earthy than fruity or floral, but still a good cup. It makes a better breakfast or lunch blend, as it has some more strength in flavor to help pick you up, but it is a bit more of an acquired taste than some oolong. If your taste preferences are more often green teas and you are venturing into the world of oolong, start with something more like the ti kuan yin. If you lean more toward black teas, this will be a good introductory oolong.

★★★★☆

This tea is well balanced and has a good strong taste, particularly if you brew it for 6-9 minutes, which I prefer. This tea will keep you going in the late afternoon.

good everyday tea. rich flavor and affordable price.

★★★★★

Very nice, smooth, fragrant oolong. I bought this for my girlfriend-- black tea often bothers her stomach, but oolong is better for her, and she loves this one.

★★★★★

Delicious! I could drink this all day long. Just a little sweetness makes it a great tasting tea for any occasion. Probably my favorite Adagio tea right now!

My previous tea supplier went out of business, I have found my oolong replacement!

★★★★★

This is my new favorite for something with a medium amount of caffeine and plenty of flavor.

★★★★★

Delicious tea, classic oolong flavor. Perfect afternoon brew.

This didn't blow me away the first time I tried it, but I keep coming back to it. This is becoming my everday tea.

★★★☆☆

Can't say I love this one. Lots of other options to go with. I trued this since the bai hao was out at the time, and it was a mistake. It's a different tea, and not horrible. But this is not something I would get again.

★★★★★

Nutty, mellow, and dependable. If you like Chinese restaurant tea, this could be a similar cup.

★★★★★

Very flavorful mellow oolong, more tasteful to me than the oolong #40. I like this tea anytime of the day. Is my favorite oolong!

5 min steep · 200°F

★★★☆☆

Not a bad oolong, but not my favorite. I prefer a nuttier, earthier oolong, and the formosa oolong has a slightly weaker flavor.

★★★★★

I love this tea. Strong robust flavor on the dark side of the oolong continuum.

★★★★☆

I liked this, though it doesn't have as strong of the flavor that I think of as oolong. I brewed for 5 minutes and may try 6 next time, or perhaps 1.5 tsp instead of 1, as I felt like I wanted a little more oomph.

★★★★★

Deep root flavor, great color, highly recommend it.

★★★★★

This is my favorite tea. It reminds me of the essence of autumn. It's got a dark, foresty/ leaves feel.. and the taste can be described as a dark formosa, similar to Wu Yi.

★★★★★

good oolong flavor, doesnt get bitter if over steeped

★★★★★

I am not the best person to review oolong teas, being fairly new to the style - I really enjoy the fresh hot aroma, it reminds me very fondly of my grandfather's horse stables.

★★★★☆

Very nice, would rank this among my top five favorite oolongs.

★★★★★

Very smooth and earthy. The kind of classic taste that makes you smile every time you drink it

★★★★★

I really enjoyed this tea. It is a mellow yet lively brew. I would reorder this.

★★★★☆

Pleasantly earthy without being too heavy. Not my usual cup of tea, but good when the mood strikes.

★★★★☆

Pretty good, not the best oolong Ive had though. Slightly more floral then i would have liked.

★★★★☆

This was pretty simple, but I liked it. It is very reasonable.

★★★☆☆

Does not have a lot if flavor to it, not a great Oolong
