Formosa Pouchong Customer Reviews

Taiwanese pouchong is the most lightly oxidized of all oolongs. Inviting sugary-floral nose from the emerald leaves, yielding pale golden liquor with a soft, melting butter texture. Uplifting honeysuckle aroma lingers on long after the last sip.

I guess I'm still learning to properly appreciate greener oolongs. I can tell that this is a quality tea and an excellent example of a pouchong, but I don't get the floral notes that others notice from this. Instead, I get light vegetal notes that transform into herbal notes as the cup cools. In the background there's a slight pepperiness that goes well with the savory herbal quality of this tea. It's pleasant enough, and it would be worth the money as one undoubtedly would get multiple infusions from it. (2 minutes @ 190F)

Oh the flowers! The texture is rich and buttery smooth, but the taste is refreshingly light, like passing through a field of flowers on a bike ride.

I found this oolong to be a nice sip but very light. I like to add just a bit of honey to bring forth the flavors even more.

Light floral oolong, I was able to enjoy it even though I usually avoid the flowers tastes.

Such a lovely tea to have on Christmas Eve as part of the CommuniTea. It's slightly floral, sweet and silky.

The tea seems to be very light. It does have a slight bitter flavor for me. That could be because I’m still not able to really smell/taste well.

floral, light, pleasant sipping tea. I rinsed leaves for 10 seconds at 195 and then brewed for the 3 minutes. I didn't need to add anything to this tea. It's so interesting with floral and soft flavors that develop as the tea cools.

This tea has many complexities to it. It has a buttery mouthfeel, is very lightly floral, and is silky smooth. There is no bitterness or astringency here. The leaves will steep 2+ times, so you can enjoy them for quite a while.

I’m more of a Wuyi or darker Formosa girl (bring on the roasty/toasty! yum!) but I can’t deny this is a quality oolong. If you are into the more buttery/floral category, this one is worth every penny. Its mouthfeel is divine; so round and rich. The taste lingers on your tongue long after the sip. Its essence is a combination of roasted veggies paired with a hint of floral. It’s a very easy-going tea, not aggressive in the slightest, so it’s a good choice for those new to sipping. This tea is a multi-steeper, so clear your agenda or pick a more low key day to brew this cup. Happy Sipping!

At first I thought this tea might be too floral for my tastes, but the palate was so well-balanced and had the characteristic buttery mouthfeel of an oolong that everything about this tea was totally harmonious. I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Generally, I prefer more oxidised oolongs to the lighter ones, but this was another example of how complex and beautiful any type of oolong can be. Steeped 3 min @ 185º.

This tea has a deep and inviting floral nose. The brewed tea is a pale golden-green color. This tea has a warm sugar and deeply layered floral aroma, with a melting, creamy mouthfeel. Mellow and light-bodied, this hand-crafted oolong is excellent for multiple infusions.

I wasn't sure how I was going to like this greenish oolong, as the more vegetal teas aren't my favorites and I've not liked many pouchongs. But -- this tea is very good! The aroma is wonderful, and the taste is equally as good! This tea has a herbal/floral/sweet scent and taste - very nice! Light, but very smooth and relaxing. Very nice! I added just a bit of pure stevia. Yum! This is one I would add to the stash! 195, 3 minutes.

The fairies were here!
Somehow they gathered dew drops
Thimble by thimble

They danced amongst leaves
Searching high and low for blooms
Singing cheerfully

Their magic is here
Distilled for my sipping joy
Light, bright and cheerful!

This is no runner up, this is the winner of green oolongs. It smells divine; like a bouquet of lilacs. The tea is light and smooth; with a sweetness coming through. I think this tea has me mesmerized because I swear I taste cherry pie! Absolutely flipping delicious. I'm going in for multiple steeps.

Holds up to almost 4 steeps and arrives in a cute little tin. Has an excellent orchid-raisin character that becomes woodier a few brews in

This tea had an earthy aftertaste that was not so pleasant. I added honey but the taste remained which is why I gave it an OK rating.

This tea has a nice floral scent, but not like perfume. When brewed, it's light and has a lot of flavor. This is a great sipping tea.

Flavor is mellow; but play with the amounts and steeping times to suit your needs/likes. The color is roasted for dry leaf, but unveils to the green shown in the picture. Small leaves unfurl.

I brewed my Formosa Pouchong hot and plain. I was surprised that it came out such a light yellowy-green color. The taste was very light, but good. I would highly recommend this tea!

The best Oolong I've had from Adagio yet!
It smells so good, and the flavor lasts through many infusions when made Gong Fu style.

Beautiful tea leaves steep up to a pale liquor with notes of floral that waft from the cup while sipping. This is such a lovely cup of tea that can handle multiple steeps. Such a treat if you enjoy pouchong! Sip, sip away!

This is a really nice oolong - lands somewhere in between a Fujian rain and a golden flower flavor profile - slightly woody/mineral tasting, more so floral. Overall really good, smooth drinking tea. Not sure it's worth the hefty price tag, but I'm glad I tried a sample of it!

When I read the description for this tea, I was under the impression that I was getting something like a light jasmine. What I actually tasted was more like a cup of light green hot water. I then tried brew it again adding even more tea. (1.5 teaspoons to 6oz of H2o.) I got a little more color and flavor but not much. The flavor I did get was nice, however. It was smooth and floral, which I enjoyed, but again the main flavor by far was still hot water. I really feel like I'm chasing the dragon with this tea. To demonstrate my point even further, do like I did and try putting this tea in a taste test against any decent oolong or green tea and you yourself will see and taste just how incredibly week this tea is. For the price of this product, I would prefer something with some kind of actual flavor. Not flavor that I'm imagining half the time.

First thing I notice is the smooth buttery texture, and then the mild green flavor with floral overtones. The leaves beautifully unfurl to create the golden color, making up for how hard it is to measure out a teaspoon of tea - those who use scales to go by weight will have a much easier time.

Wow my wife and I were not fans of this tea. To be fair, I might not have minded the weird flavor that seemed to permeate it had my wife not told me what it reminded her of, which was gross and after which I couldn't un-taste. I gave it to my father in law to see what he thinks. If he's a fan I'll bump this review up to 4 stars from 3. (if it's possible to edit reviews)

Update: my father and mother in law really enjoyed this, so I'll give it another star.

Magnificent. Probably the most expensive tea I've ever bought and it did not disappoint. Even before you brew it, the strong floral smell is unbelievable, and the leaves are gorgeous. Felt like I was opening up a tin of dank! It's delicious, too. It's powerfully floral; my only point of reference is jasmine teas, but I don't think this stuff involves any flowers added in the process? Will have to find out. (Edit: Adagio replied and said it is just the tea leaves. Amazing!) Besides the lovely flowery flavor, the texture is sort of buttery, and there's a savory flavor faintly reminiscent of kukicha. I hated kukicha, but I love this! Sort of like how I don't generally like green tea, but I love genmaicha -- something about the mixture of flavors being greater than the sum of its parts. The flavor is a bit 'thin' in my mind, very delicate, unlike the black teas I mostly drink. If you like jasmine tea, you have to try this!

What an aroma! It's green, floral, and uplifting. The taste carries a light floral flavor as well, along with the vegetal, almost buttery flavor I look for in this style of oolong. I would say it's well worth the price, and I was impressed with how much tea was included in the sample tin! It also stands up well to multiple infusions.

decent and light tasting tea, perhaps not worth the money to me @adagioteas

Wonderfully fragrant even before steeping-- a scent that's a cross between jasmine and tuberose. Lovely.

I note many reviews extolling its buttery texture. I do detect a difference in the mouthfeel of this tea as compared to a black or a green, but it's subtle and I certainly wouldn't use the word 'buttery' though I don't know what word to select. To me, buttery connotes a heaviness that would be an unfair description of this tea.

I could drink this oolong as readily as I do water-- it's just so sippable, so approachable, without any additions or time elapse or astringency. Warm flower water. :)

A lovely lightly oxidized oolong tea to sit enjoy and savor. After steeping I indulged in breathing in the lovely floral aroma wafting from the teapot. The liquor was a yellowish light green. The tea has a fresh taste, flavors of lilac and a hint of fruitiness, similar to pear. With a buttery mouth feel and a light astringent finish. This tea held up for a few steeps. A very nice cup of pouchong.

Maybe I don't have the palate for fine tea. I couldn't taste much of a difference from the regular pouchong. I tried giving this the gongfu treatment, and I'm pretty sure that's the best shot it had.

Cool looking sample tin but difficult to extract leaves from. The leaves look cool too. Dark and textured to the point that on my first brewing I thought they would expand like rolled oolongs (they didn’t expand much). 1 teaspoon loosely packed is about right. Brews a straw / pale yellow. Flavor is more of a lightly oxidized oolong flavor without toastiness or mineral. No floral essence either. Plain in a good, clean way.
