UPDATED from 1/12/22: The tea in the CommuniTEA packet smells like marzipan candy. It steeps (at a slightly lower temp to avoid bitterness) into a deep amber color. This tea has a strong almond flavor, and is nutty and sweet enough to be delicious. The oolong and almond seem to work together well. It is the kind of tea you can gulp, because the strong flavor is full bodied and right in your face. It brews twice very well. The second cup is a paler color, yet the flavor is still delicious. Adding ¼ teaspoon of sweetener (to 14 oz) and a tiny bit of heavy whipping cream turns the tea into a marzipan dessert. I am not a fan of eating almond baked goods like marzipan nor Amaretto drinks, but this tea is delicious. (3 mins @200ºF).

UPDATED: Yeah, it's still not doing it for me. Smells gorgeous, in the packet and steeped, but tastes... not like almond at all. It was also quite astringent and adding double the sweetener I normally use helped cut that, but didn't really enhance the flavour at all. Feel like I've confirmed - it's not me, it's the tea. Steeped 3 min @ 195º.

Original review 3/27/23: I don't know what went wrong, but I got no almond flavour from this tea. It was a decent enough oolong, but no almond, even though the aroma from the packet was fabulous. It became maybe slightly noticeable when the tea was cool. I did a second steep to see if that was any different, and it wasn't. I'm not sure what the issue was, but I certainly feel the need to try another sample since it seems like everyone else had a totally different experience. (1st steep: 3 min, 195º. 2nd steep: 4 min, 195º)

7/23/19 - Lovely almond taste and aroma, but the almond doesn't over power the oolong. Lovely tea! Very smooth finish.
7/8/2023 - Always a favorite. Such a smooth and lovely tasting oolong. Great base for blending as well. A staple in my tea stash.

Reminds me so much of the cake fondant I used to work with. A nice candy like almond

Not bad at all. Nice moderate almond taste, smooth tea that goes well with or without milk. Somewhat forgiving if you oversteep.

Delicious. Very different from other oolong teas I have tried. Tons of almond flavor.

Too strong of an almond extract flavor for my liking. I might give it an extra star if it had a little alcohol added to it, it just seems to need it.

I make ice teas and then carbonate them to make seltzers, and this tea is superb as a seltzer. It's sweet and crisp, and was by far the favorite with my friends.

If you are an almond lover, this tea is for you. It has a lovely comforting smell of marzipan, but the flavor is more mellow and warm like toasted almonds. Definitely my favorite flavored tea!

Nice, but a little weak for me. Brewed as printed on pack. Would probably be better with more leaves. Double the amount

Pretty different from the few oolongs I’ve tried. It was super smooth and full tasting.. almost milky. Not my favorite but I’d be willing to try it again!

Wow. I just tried this because it was on sale and did not expect it to be so good. The aroma is excellent and the flavor is quite enjoyable. The flavor is sweeter and more pronounced then I expected from almond--not nutty tasting. It reminded me of the Cherry Marzipan Oolong without the cherry flavor--I know that sounds odd, but try both and you'll know what I'm talking about. While I wouldn't call it an aftertaste, the flavor does linger in your mouth longer than most flavors, but that was a good thing. I'm not sure if this would be an everyday drinker or a special treat, yet, but I thoroughly enjoyed every last drop. I drank it with sugar and a splash of milk.

A delicious and pleasant almond flavored tea! It has some natural sweetness that allows you to sip plain, although a sweetener add elevates the wonderful nut taste to a more dessert like flavor of marzipan. The dark oolong tea base, medium bodied and smooth, has some nutty notes that partners well with the almond flavor.

Almond scented oolong tea leaves spilled out of my CT packet. I brewed 12 oz. at 195*F (oolong brewing temp.) for 3 min. The tawny brown liquor had a nice nutty aroma that was even stronger than that of the dry tea. After tasting, I sweetened with agave which elevated the pleasant almond flavor to delishisness. My cup was drained in a flash. A resteep of 8 oz. took no time to sip down too. I chilled a mini cup and the almond flavor was more mellow in the cold tea. I adore this tea along with other almond flavored ones like Cherry Marzipan Oolong and Rooibos Almond. If you're an almond lover than this is a good one a try!

Delicious almond flavor in a cup. In the packet, it smells sweet like marzipan, but that tends to mellow out in the cup and mingle with the tea, leaving a nutty smooth vibe.

Has a strong almond flavor that pairs well with the earthiness of the oolong. The first few sips tasted a bit artificial. A little milk and sugar helped to tone it down, and it wasn't present in the second steep. It's nice by itself and would also make a good base for a blend.

I will preface this by saying I am not a big almond fan. This tea was smooth and had a good almond flavor. It just wasn’t my tea choice. I had 3.25 g for 13 oz steep. Used 195 for 4 minutes. CT 3-27-23.

This is a tea which I wish tasted as amazing as it had smelled. On its own, the almond taste was relatively faint against the woodsier oolong taste, which was more prominent. If anything, almond was an afterthought. Added a touch of agave, and it helped the almond somewhat, and the nutty flavour did feel more pronounced with the natural sweetness helped along to the front. Ultimately, I heated and frothed a little oat milk, added it to my cup, and it really helped finally let the almond shine. It created a nice, light tea which tasted like an almond pastry fresh from the oven. On a blend or added to, this is a lovely tea. On its own, it's a bit lacklustre - unless oolong with a whisper of almond is what you're after!

I think this is one of my favorite oolongs. The almond flavor is light and sweet. It is more subtle than other flavorings, but with a little sweeter it brings it alive.

This tea was okay but too light for me. I’m surprised I didn’t get much of an almond taste in my cup but maybe that’s just my packet - I’m okay with not having a strong taste of it. I used the Oolong tea setting on my step-daughter’s kettle so I can’t say. What the temp was. I brewed it for about 3 minutes but maybe 5-6 minutes would have been better.

Update: I just really love this toasty almond flavor! I'm upping my rating to 5 stars. Yum!

This was a nice nutty cup of oolong tea. To me it was more of a toasty, nutty flavor versus a sweet marzipan type flavor.

Just say the word oolong and I'm in! This is another one of my favorites. The nutty flavor is so smooth but potent. How did they get so much almond flavor in one little packet? No bitterness on the cool down. This is a winner!

Love this! The almond flavoring is very reminiscent of almond extract - sweet, floral, and nutty. It's not strongly flavored, but some brown sugar and milk brings the almond out. The oolong base goes with it perfectly!

I enjoyed today’s tea, Almond Oolong. Maybe it was just me, but I tasted too notes of cherry with a toasted almond finish. I sweetened with a little apple sweetener and it was just sweet enough to round it out. A great tea with no bred bitterness… it’s a thumbs up for me!

Today's CommuniTEA is Almond Oolong (3-27-23). Upon opening my packet, I had a good amount of tea. I made it hot with some milk thistle and manuka honey. It was mildly nutty, mildly sweet, and very smooth. I love this tea and would highly recommend it!

In the bag: A humble-looking blend. It's just the nearly black, slightly curly leaves and stems of tea.

On the nose (pre-steep): Not surprisingly, almond is the main flavor. A strong undertone of sugar as well, much like you would find in almond extract.

On the nose (post-steep): The sweet almond aroma remains but has taken a step back. It's still the main player yet shares the field with the classic woody notes of oolong.

On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Here the strengths are reversed - woody oolong has taken the lead and sweet almond has become an accent.

On the tongue (post-sweetener): No change.

Opinion: A pleasant tea with an intriguing flavor. The woody, slightly nutty oolong is an excellent compliment to the nuttiness of the almond. The mild sweetness throughout improves the taste. These layers add a surprising complexity.

Preparation: First steep 3 min, second steep 6 min. Both @ 195 ℉. ½ teaspoon monk fruit sweetener.

At first taste the almond flavoring has a bit of an alcohol taste. That seems to fade as it cools. I love amaretto so I think the alcohol taste isn't as offputting for me in this tea. Oolong is also my favorite base.

From the second I opened this little pack I knew it was a winner, the sweet almond smell took over and didn't let up as it steeped. Only thing better than the smell was the taste, it was nice from the first sip to the last, and the second steep was just as good, although understandably a little milder.
