Ali Shan Customer Reviews

Green oolong tea from Ali Shan, one of Taiwan's most famous tea growing areas. Beautiful high mountain oolongs come from its misty peaks. Warm sugar and deeply layered floral aromas, with a melting, creamy mouthfeel. Mellow and light-bodied.

Sweet, fruity floral taste, very flavorful. I get almost a vanilla hint too. Quite nice and probably in my top ranking for oolong.

I tried this as well as the formosa ali shan and got some ali shan special. I ended up prefering the ali shan to the formosa ali shan. it has a lighter flavor and is a little less herbal. I steeped it with boiling water for 15-20 seconds.

My new favorite tea. If it weren't for the price this would become an every-day staple. Astoundingly sweet and mellow this tea is a wonderful treat and can be re-steeped 2 to 3 times with only a slight loss in quality, though later steepings will require slightly more time and lower temperature to ward off bitter notes.

To me Ali Shan tastes like a mix between dragon tea and milk oolong, has a milky taste when you ice it. Good afternoon tea.

Nice rich and hearty taste. Has that nice smoothness that oolong tea has. Definitely a new favorite.

So lovely! Makes a great iced tea. Light body, sweet, floral, and good for multiple infusions. Beautiful leaves too! Not my #1, as it doesn’t have that extra oomph, but a super good staple nonetheless. Maybe I’ll change my mind later!

Light, but has a nice, creamy lingering taste! I always rinse the leaves first with the hot water for about 30 seconds to get them to open up before the first “real” steep.

I love Ali Shan and usually buy the pricier version of it so thanks to CommuniTEA for letting me get to comment on it. It's light, it's sweet, it's almost floral, and I love it.

This tea may be my new favorite. The first steep was buttery and vegetal, second steep is more earthy. Very complex flavors.

This is one of those you get multiple steeps out of to get the full experience of everything this tea has to offer. I'm glad this was included in CommuniTEA; I had wanted to try it but the price tag is a bit much without knowing how it is.

Good tea- tastes somewhat between an oolong and a green to me. Surprising depth of flavor for brewing such a light color.

This is the best oolong tea I’ve had, and for such a price point, one would hope it’s delicious! It’s surprisingly pale, though very smooth to drink, with a faintly sweet floral taste that lingers in your mouth. There isn’t a single bitter or astringent flavor, and I even got distracted and slightly over brewed it. This is absolutely fantastic!

Light, floral, and clean tasting, it's almost as if it contains jasmine, but this is a pure Oolong. A beautiful tea.

So. Tasty. I’m a newbie to oolong and lucked out that this one was included in the May Communitea box. I’m overwhelmed by how smooth it is! Definitely floral notes to the aroma, and such a creamy, honey-like flavor. Very layered and complex taste for such a subtle tea, but so very, very worth every cup.

Enjoyed this tea treat very much; from watching the tea unravel in the hot water to the clean, crisp taste... this tea is definitely “‘my cup of tea”

I found it pleasant, but so delicate as to be difficult to taste. There are plenty of good reviews here, so I'll leave it to you to decide whether my palate just isn't refined enough to appreciate this tea.

Not something I'd normally choose, but it's very good!

Undoubtedly some of the best tea I've had. It has such a depth of flavor and although I don't think I'd be able to properly appreciate it every day, it makes for an excellent treat.

Delicate, with gentle sweetness and complex flavors. This tea has a wonderful mouthfeel, and it's very easy to drink without additional sweeteners. This is worth splurging a little extra money on.

Ali Shan was a wonderful surprise. At first, by the smell and then the steeped leaves look, I thought it would be grassy. It isn’t. It has its own unique and smooth taste.

👍👍 This one had a slight tingle on the tongue and buttery feel in the mouth. Rinsed tea for about 15 secs at 195F prior to the first steep ... I always do this with oolongs and pu-erhs to open up the leaves and get rid of any off-flavors & dust. The leaves open up nicely for a beautiful display in the pot. Hangs around nicely in your mouth for quite sometime. No green flavors were noted, which to me makes this an excellent oolong! Probably get four steeps out of this one ... which is a plus! (2 mins @ 190F, 1/4 tsp sugar)

Tastes like a sweeter, creamier milk oolong. Color is very light when brewed and tea has multiple infusions like most oolongs. Leaves don’t unfurl fully in the beginning.

As soon as I separated the leaves from the tea and took a sip, they went right back in for a resteep. This tea surprised me how calm and yet so complex this very refined palette of flavors, a soft creaminess, a slight nutty or smokiness, a floral aspect, and yet no one element too jarring or overpowering the others. I am going to resteep this until its water, get every bit of it out that I can. I have yet to try it hot, but chilled it is so delightful. Great on a hot day like today, refreshing. This is going on my wishlist for sure.

It's hard to know what to say. The first steeping was so light I thought I must have misjudged the leaf:water ratio and expected it to be flavorless. Far from it! This is a tea that must be tried to be believed. I'd give ten stars if I could.

The caffeine content is is fairly low and the tea itself is very delicately flavored. That said, it is a decent sipping tea, not the punch you in the face in the morning as you get going tea but something reasonable for sipping while reading a book in the afternoon.

After all the rave reviews, I figured I should try this Ferrari tea, but I guess just as I'm not impressed with expensive sports cars I did not find this tea to be impressive either. It was a very decent tea, but for the price and all the reviews, I was expecting it to bring me to a higher state of being. Ah well, not for everyone I guess.

I love this one for brewing tiny cups to savor, instead of gulp. It's earthy, creamy, slightly floral, and very slightly sweet. It expands beautifully in my little gong fu pot, and the flavor mellows and sweetens with each re-brew (I've re-brewed up to four times).
