Mild in flavor, strong in caffeine. I love this lightly sweetened. It's reminiscent of just freshly dried hay with a woody, barely smoky taste on subsequent steepings.
This is a brew to wake you up.
Argentine Yerba Mate with lively, tangy, herbaceous notes. Faint hints of tobacco and grass. Contains caffeine.

I've had this tea *in* things before through the communiTEA, but never just the mate by itself. Wow, this stuff is special! My mouth is lighting up like a switchboard trying to register all the different flavors I'm getting. Green tea is a poor comparison in my book - while there are grassy notes, the flavor is primarily light, herbal, and refreshing, with notes of tobacco and fruit. It's actually hard to describe because it's so unlike anything else. This is my runaway favorite of the yerba mate teas, even better than the toasted mate! (4 mins/3 mins @ 150 F, no additions)
This is a pleasant cup, with lots of sweetness on its own, and fresh clean straw flavors. The caffeine buzz is less jangly than what I get from coffee, and also much kinder to my stomach. A worthwhile CommuniTEA pick for sure!
But, woooooow, I wish I'd looked up some caffeine comparison charts before drinking two steeps in close succession! Apparently a cup of mate has roughly four times the caffeine of most black teas, and close to twice what you get from typical brewed coffee.
That's a big step up for someone whose caffeine intake is one round (maybe) of black tea in the morning, then green or white tea the rest of the day. Next time I'll know to pace myself!
Drinking adagio's yerba mate made me realize the yerba mate which I had long time ago somewhere was not very good one. This yerba mate is very enjoyable.
This is a pretty high quality mate! I served mine with some honey and a squeeze of lime juice and it was really taste. Less dusty than other brands of mate I've tried (which has admittedly been limited). Really tasty and energizing as served
I love mates. A nice kick of energy, lower temp so you can drink it sooner. What’s not to love?
I enjoyed this yerba mate! Steeping this tea at a lower temperature (150°F) for ~3 1/2 minutes yielded a mild pleasant tasting tea. It reminded me of the coca tea served to me in Cusco, Peru.
Once steeped, I had a lovely light golden-green tea. The taste profile is similar to many greens with nice grassy notes, but also has some of the full earthiness that I am fond of in pu erh teas. The perfect cup for lingering over a good story while savoring both tea and well-chosen words.
I have been meaning to try mate for awhile now so it was a nice surprise in this morning's Communitea packet. I really enjoy the flavor.
I didn't expect to like this and I wasn't necessarily wrong. I expected to kind of hate it on its own but it wasn't too bad actually, just not something I would ever purchase. It's a little earthy, a little smoky, but not too much of either. Just not my thing is all
Years ago I drink mate regularly although I didn’t know cooler water. I followed the instructions on the packet, this is delicious.
Mild green flavor. Light. I would compare it to a white tea flavor.
This is good but very mild tasting. I did over 5 min first steep and havent tried a second steep yet. I love toasted mate better though, for more flavor.
I am not very familiar with mates, I carefully followed instructions on the proper way to steep this cup. It definitely reminds me more of the flavor that I associate with the green teas- it has a grassy, vegetal quality. However, I can also taste a kind of tobacco-like quality, almost like the lingering smell from an old pipe...While this is not my favorite flavour profile, I can see that it may have appeal to others, there is a certain Zen-like quality going on in my cup.
This tea is very smooth and has a silky mouthfeel, while being light and delicate. I'm not sure how to describe the taste. It has a savory, green/grassy flavor, with some other notes I can't describe. Not totally unpleasant to this non-green tea drinker. I honestly can't decide if I like it or not... but I've now gone through 2 cups trying to decide, so I obviously don't hate it. I don't think I would reach for this based on taste, maybe just the caffeinated benefits on a morning I need the extra kick. (reviewed through CommuniTEA; 5 min @ 150F)
Reviewed as part of the communiTEA: I love all mate... literally my favorite teas. The flavored ones are better but I don’t mind this plain one at all.
Very light and grassy. First steep for 4 minutes and loved it in the morning.
Too light for me & I don't enjoy teas with a grassy/herb taste to them. Might be good mixed with something else, but not my cup of tea by itself.
Delightful tea! Light and refreshing but incredibly complex. Starts out with a muted hay taste and tiny bit of smoky, citrusy flavor. Very smooth and soft mouth feel.
I've been drinking mate semi-regularly for the past few months and the experience I've had has been miles above that with coffee. Mate with nothing added is so much more palatable than black, bitter coffee. Not only that, but the effect of the caffeine in the mate is very different from the effect I get from coffee. With coffee, I'm jittery for a few hours and later crash; with yerba mate, I find that I have calmer, longer-lasting energy that doesn't end in a crash. I don't know what that can be attributed to, but I do know that for those reasons I will never go back to coffee again now that I know there's something better out there.
Got this mate for the caffeine content. Like it so far; for me tastes a little like a green tea
Awesome pick-me-up, great with lemon or berries or mixed with other herbals
This is good, and had a great blend of flavor! Definitely not my everyday tea but it was fun to mix it up!
Delicious and a great kick start to the morning. Really good with a little bit of sugar.
This is a really nice quality Yerba Mate, if you are used to buying Mate by from the traditional providers, you often have to deal with a lot of dust - this is dust free, pleasant in flavour alone - but also great to mix with some peppermint, chai spices or herbal teas for an extra kick.
I love the nutty, grassy flavor. I also love that it doesn't become super tannic and bitter when over steeped, just more intensely flavored.
I ordered this as a replacement for another brand and have really enjoyed it! Great product!
Got this for my sister to try as an iced tea. She loves it hot but wasn t all that happy with it cold.
Love this pure Yerba mate. Doesn’t affect my sleep like all other caffeinated teas do.
Exactly as intended. Definitely an acquired taste, but once you re used to it it s nice to keep on hand.
This tea has a very distinct flavour profile, and it's interesting that apparently brewing it at different temperatures changes the flavour. This tea is far from being my favourite, but I do enjoy drinking it on occasion.
I aquired my love of mate from my wife's friend's Argentinian family, who taught me how to make this drink according to the local style (prepared in a 'gourd-like cup,' 3/4 full with leaf, drinking from a bombilla straw). The brewing instructions on the website, unfortunately, don't let people know about this style (and the superior caffeine effects!). This mate is a little more mellow and sweet than the huge bag I picked up at the local Mexican market, and I can't wait to try some of Adagio's other varieties of mate.
I really like this in the morning after a cup of black breakfast tea.
First mate yes I’ve had, a unique taste and experience that is different but not too far from some teas
I had tried yerba mate some years ago and liked it, but I'm afraid this one is not to my taste. It's possible the yerba I had before was a blend or that my tastes have shifted some since then, but I found this batch reminds me unpleasantly of the water drained off of a can of green beans. I normally enjoy a vegatal component to a tea flavor, but this one hits wrong.
Love the smoky flavor! Very smooth and mild—no bitterness. Very nice cup and a good jolt of caffeine
Grassy or leaf-y. I don't seem to get much else from it. Good though.
I love mate and this is a good one. I love this almost as much as I love coffee. Almost.
Wow does this wake me up in the morning!! This almost has a minty taste to it, even when making it strong, but I don't mind it that much!!
This is a flavorful tea, that also blends well with other teas
A staple tea for those afternoons that just drain you. Highly mixable, too! Probably one of the better Yerba Mates out this season.
I love the buzzy feeling I grt in my mouth and it mixes well with rooibos or the fruity teas. It doesn't mess with my blood sugar and make me nauseous like regular tea can.
Had to be very careful on the temperature range and steep longer than recommended (otherwise just looked/tasted like water). I was a little disappointed after the first few cups, but after some trial and error, this tea is great! I've tried some other mate teas from this company, but plain ol' yerba mate is my favorite.
A great base for a mate tea. Good quality and mixes well with a fruit herbal tea.
This is a Yerba Mate, it is good and a nice alternative to the big bag from the health food store. It has a nice green herby taste and is not very dusty, nice clunky leaves. remember to let it sit in some cool water before you put the boiling water in otherwise you'll scare it.. be nice to your tea.
The classics are often the best: this makes no exception
Yerba mate my first time trying this I thought it was green tea but without the bitterness if you steep it too long but it gives you a ton of energy it tastes great though
Holy caffeine Batman. If you need an afternoon pick me up this is it
very earthy and rich flavor would recommend to those looking for a earthy green tea flavors.
Mid-fawn colored. Mint, cinnamon, herbal aroma. Mid-body; balanced; exotic flavors; long flavorful refined finish. Nice style.
