Nice toasted flavor. I love Yerba mate. Can get too bitter if you oversteep. Very nice highly caffeinated alternative to tea.
Argentine Yerba Mate with lively, tangy, herbaceous notes. Faint hints of tobacco and grass. Contains caffeine.

Nice toasted flavor. I love Yerba mate. Can get too bitter if you oversteep. Very nice highly caffeinated alternative to tea.
Very pleasant, I drink it every day because of kenny beats
'Herbaceous and grassy' is a solid description. I enjoyed it much more iced with a hint of honey than when hot.
Great summer pick up. 5 minutes at 200°F makes a great tea hot or iced.
This is good. There s nothing super exciting about it. It s drink it again but it s not the first for which I reach.
One of my favorite teas and is, in fact, the tea that jumpstarted my love of Tea. :)
Not as much caffeine as coffee, but also a slower delivery of said caffeine so it lasts longer. Great for a preschool teacher that needs to stay energized through the day...or anyone that does and doesn't want the sting of coffee.
Oh what an awesome caffeine kick! A fellow communitea club member recommended this tea and boy i do not regret buying this! good caffeine minus the coffee jitters. My taste buds are still trying to figure out what they’re tasting though. Maybe I’ll know by my third cup.
This isn't my favorite. Both the smell & taste are pretty earthy & grassy.
Love this it tastes so good and really gets my morning going!
I love this tea as a good substitute for coffee. Subtle and easy to enhance with added sweetners/flavors.
Not missing my morning coffee caffeine with this bad boy!
Was unable to get any taste out of it. Very disappointing. Not sure if there is a quality control issue, but I tried making it with a variety of temperatures from 150f-195f and times, as well as pre-soaking the leaves in cold water first. None of them resulted in anything more than a light flavor with even small amounts of water (3oz) and 1tsp of leaf.
Love the yerba mate! Especially as a base for a mix!!! Can't wait to get a Mate Gourd to drink from!!!
I'm a fan of yerba mate in general, but this one was just OK.
Yerba Mate is one of my favorite hot drinks. This one is good but I prefer Guayaki brand.
I work the graveyard shift so I always need a little more caffiene. this stuff is great for when you need a pick-me-up!
I decided to buy more yerba mate off Amazon at a cheaper price - big mistake! it's half stems! and the way the leaves are ground up it isn't uniform at all - nothing like the high-quality yerba mate I got from adagio! I'm not going to make the mistake of getting yerba mate from anywhere else again
The dry mate smells like straw with a hint of fruitiness, like grapes. The flavor is very mild and falls somewhere between a green tea and an oolong with slightly grassy and smoky notes. As the mate brews it grows much stronger and a bit more bitter, but retains the smokiness while settling into a smooth earthy straw finish with hints of apricot and raisins. This was my first time trying a yerba mate and it was very intriguing. It is not like anything I have ever had before, but very enjoyable all the same. Anyone trying it for the first time should be warned that it can be pretty bitter at first, but it offers some nice complexity.
This is very mild and smooth with a very subtle flavor. It is good however I prefer my teas with stronger flavors.
surprising strong caffeine and flavor, smoky and nutty and good, kinda tastes like cereal
This is delicious. It pairs well with a little bit of honey.
Classic go to for me. Gotta keep this stocked up in my cabinets
Great! I’m so glad to trade in my store bought Yerba mate for something a little less sweet
This does have a very grassy flavor, like green tea sometimes does. If you like that kind of green, you will probably like this.
Perfect for that morning pickup without the coffee. do pay attention to recommended temp/time
I really enjoyed yerba mate as today's CommuniTEA selection! I'd had it before (both from tea bags and loose) and liked it, but it was a long time ago before I bothered to pay attention. Just knew I liked it and could drink it even though I couldn't drink coffee anymore! I've definitely found what they say about the caffeination from mate (smoother, no jitters, no crashing) to be true. This time, I paid more attention... I followed Jim R.'s steep instructions from his review, and was rewarded with three delicious steeps (though I only drank part of each of the last two bc caffeine). Light but flavorful. Smooth, not at all bitter. I caught some warm hay/straw tastes right away, a light cooling mint or camphor streak running through it and something that reminded me of a fresh spring rain... Later in the cup, I started to get a fresh green woody flavor too, just a little nutty in the last sip. The cooling sensation from the camphor note sort of built as I drant, almost like astringency would. I didn't sweeten it at all but might try that next time to see what flavors it brings out. In the third steep, there was a slight bit of citrus, maybe lemon, that kind of blended with the light camphor note. I thought the slightest astringency developed in the second and third steeps, and I could feel that the tea and caffeine were stronger in the second and third steeps. I had been warned in advance, so I did shorter steeps after the first one. (There's diverging info out there about the caffeine amount, but Adagio's tea info section on caffeine says mate is similar in caffeine to a cup of black tea.) (1st steep - 5 mins @150º, 2nd & 3rd steeps 3 mins @150º)
A nice light tea that gives you a jolt of energy.
This isn't my favorite. Both the smell and the taste are pretty earthy and grassy. It feels like a very grounding and energizing cup of tea, good for mornings.
This was mild and good. I have been cold brewing everything lately because it is still not very cold here.
Yerba mate is one of my favorite teas! So earthy and wonderful!
I love Yerba mate, and theirs is great! I love it with a little sweetener
I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning, but I’ve been flirting with the idea of switching to Yerba mate. The flavor is good, and the energy levels are good too.
Grassy, with bits of hay flavor too. Great energy boost that gets me through the day.
Flavored mate is hit or miss with me--I don't really care for the fruity ones, but the spiced or mocha ones are excellent. This plain, unadorned mate is great as well.
This was one of the first CommuniTEA teas that I just could not get down. I ended up dumping half of it. I cannot stand green tea, and this tasted like a cross between green tea and dirt. It had a dirty hay flavor, with a slight honey flavor at the end. I’ve liked all of the other mate teas I’ve had, but there was just something about this that was not my favorite at all.
Kind of bland on its own. Added honey to liven it up.
I sampled this Tea as part of the CommuniTEA November box.
Others have noted a grassy taste to this tea, but I am pleased to say that the tea did Not live up to those reviews. There was a mild grassy undertone but the strongest flavor was nutty. The even bigger surprise for me was that it was even delicious after adding milk (by accident the first time). And it handled multiple infusions beautifully.
I don't think I've acquired the taste for mate without flavoring just yet but I'm working on it! 5 @ 150
'That is not the way most tea tastes.' That was my first thought while diving into a cup of this. There's an earthy-woody tone, and something green across the tongue that reminds me vaguely of a eucalyptus note. I was stationed in Sicily, Italy when I was in the Navy, and the roads were lined with eucalyptus trees--that's what the flavor of this tea brings to mind.
I can see where some people are getting grassy, hay notes, though. There's a definite vegetal element, but not the unripe bell pepper vegetal some green teas have given me. It's just...a green flavor.
In all, it's a sipper, not a gulper, even with added sweetener. I think I like it. I also think it confuses me somewhat.
Hard to explain, but very nice! Mild, kinda herbally and woodsy. I added a little honey. I don't always like coffee in the morning, I can see this as a wonderful alternative.
I really enjoyed this tea. I made sure to steep at ~150°F. I managed 2 steeps, both for 3 min. I added a spoon of sugar to both steeps. I notice any grassy or smokey notes. It was similar to a light green tea, but smoother. I've had mate in other blends before, but now I'm really interested to try just a flavored mate. (reviewed from CommuniTea)
The dry yerba mate smell is light; it's dusty and a savory sort of herby-earthy smell.
I decided to do different time intervals for my first brew at 3, 4, and 5 minutes into steeping @ 150F (thanks utiliTEA)!
The smell of the tea doesn't really change from dry when it's brewed (eventually it disappears entirely); the flavor doesn't change much based on the brew time for 3-4 minutes, either (it's slightly stronger, but only slightly). The first thing I thought when I sipped the 3 and 4 minute tea was 'I know this flavor, I've had exactly it recently' and it seems to taste like pecan. Just pecan. 5 minutes it tastes like pecan *and* grass. It has a fullbodied, lubricating mouthfeel. Seems like it'd be an excellent blending tea!
I didn’t really know what to expect from this tea but for me, this tea really didn’t do anything for me. It’s a bit forgettable.
It was a nice, grassy, vegetal tea. I am not normally a big fan of yerba mates but this one was fine.
'he who likes herbal teas' rates this mate with an A ...
I don’t have much experience with yerba mate, so when I saw that so many people mention this being an acquired taste, I was worried.
Definitely want an acquired taste for me. Loved it from sip number one. Re-brew was great too.
Good amount of caffeine for me on sluggish days. Has a mild grassy taste. Almost like a matcha but with a smoother, less bitter taste.
Tastes like green grass only worse. Her by with a faint taste of coffee?
My first mate. I really like the flavor, it is nice and earthy with a huge boost of caffine.
Maybe my 3 min steep was not enough...but I am not getting much flavor at all from this cup of tea. It isn't offensive...it just doesn't taste like anything.
Pretty big fan of mate in general, so this was right up my alley. Good to drink first thing in the morning or whenever you need a little pick me up.
