Rather enjoying this mate. Not usually a fan of hazelnut beverages, but this is an exception. The nuttiness blends really well with the flavor of the tea with the chocolatey additions. I am already feeling the caffeine boost. Very nice!
Our Brazilian toasted mate with its mellow chicory notes enhanced with the indulgent flavors of chocolate and hazelnut. Contains caffeine.

I don't hate and I don't love this blend. It tastes like the smell when you first grind up nuts in a food processor. A little bias here, as mate is not a fav for me. I know Violet Jessop loved it and she survived all 3 white star line disasters: Olympic collision, Titanic iceberg, and Britannic mine. So maybe I should start enjoying more often.
I am not a fan of toasted mate. I am a fan of hazelnut. I took a few sips of this tea in hopes of not tasting the toasted mate, but I did. I am sure this is enjoyable to some.
This tea is a lovey alternative to coffee, all the sweetness of a hazelnut latte without the bitterness!
UPDATED 10-1-22: Today's CommuniTEA is Mocha Nut Mate. Upon opening my packet, I had a fantastic amount of tea. I brewed it hot with cocoa nibs and chocolate honey. The chocolate honey was really a game-changer for me and made the tea absolutely delicious. As a result, I have upped my review from 3 to 5 stars and I would highly recommend this tea!
ORIGINAL: I brewed my Mocha Nut Mate hot with some cocoa nibs and rock sugar. Unfortunately, I found it to be very bland and watery. Even with the cocoa nibs and rock sugar, it was like I didn't even put anything in there. I will say there's a possibility I steeped it too long, so I will be sure to try this one again, but as of right now, I unfortunately would not recommend this tea.
Nice bouquet of nutty flavors with a little chocolate in the background. No single nut flavor sticks out but this is a very pleasant cup. I like this a lot better than yesterday's Spiced Mate.
this tea was amazing! nutty and chocolately and the perfect way to start October!
UPDATED from 10/1/20: YUMMY, yummy, yummy is this tea. Seriously. It is good plain, but then becomes fabulous with 1/4 teaspoon of sweetener (for 10 oz of tea) and heavy whipping cream. I like spicy tea, so this toasted Yerba mate is delicious to me. Everything about it from the nutty - chocolaty flavor to the lovely soft feeling in my mouth, to a creamy after taste. It can be steeped 2X very well. It has caffeine, which is the ONLY drawback. As part of CommuniTEA, I only got a sample, and I drank those two cups so quickly, that I will have to purchase more now. (3 min @150ºF + sweetener and cream).
A delicious tea that has the flavor of a dark roast coffee, but milder and easier to drink.
This tea has a very strong roasted nut flavor. Not picking up any mocha personally but the caffeine content is definitely there.
In the bag: Light, fine tea flakes. Plenty of marigold flowers. Not many chocolate chips.
On the nose (pre-steep): A dry, woody scent. Toasted hazelnut. Mild chocolate. Days-old campfire ashes.
On the nose (post-steep): A light scent. White bread toasted to a golden brown.
On the tongue: I once toasted bread points in a pan with bacon grease - a bit like that. Mild hazelnut. No trace of chocolate.
Preparation: 4 min @ 160 ℉
CommuniTEA 10/1/22: I don't normally like mate or nutty flavors in tea, but this one works! Used stevia to sweeten and that helped bring out the chocolate taste. It's not something I would really reach for normally, but I enjoyed trying it.
3 minutes at 160° (with no lid).
10/1/22 - CommuniTEA - steeped at 160 (as low as my kettle goes) for 4 minutes. When I opened the pack it smelled strongly of chocolate, upon brewing it smelled strongly of hazelnut. I'm not a big fan of hazelnuts so I didn't have high hopes but it wasn't bad. A little sugar improved it. It was a pleasant surprise but I don't think I'd prefer it for myself.
10/1/2020 - Lovely aroma and chocolate flavor. Sweet but not overpoweringly so. I like the taste of mate...for me it's tea with an almost coffee-like edge to it. mmmmmm :)
10/1/2022 - Alas, I discovered along my tea journey that my body doesn't react very well to Mate. When I first tried this tea, I really liked the taste. I wish I could still sip this one, but have to give it a hard pass. The taste buds are willing, but the rest of the body is not.
Reminds me of hazelnut coffee on the weak side. More nutty than chocolaty. I'll have to mix it with some other tea. I probably will not reorder it.
Update: I have upped my opinion of this tea as I now brew it properly with my temperature-regulated kettle. I don't drink mate daily but enjoy it when I want an extra bit of energy to get through a morning.
This tea is incredibility smooth. The taste goes toward a chocolate finish...but stops right before meeting that flavor. I don't like chocolate so that works for me. Nice nuttiness flavor comes though strong...but since it keeps hinting towards chocolate, probably not the tea for me. (150F for 3min)
Smells awesomely of hazelnut. It has the calming, comforting taste of hazelnut, too.
Already one of my top favorties from Adagio. Once I tried it, that was all she wrote. It was the big bag for me. I mix it with another tea and will probably make an original blend. This reminds me of tropical flavors. It takes me to an island of chocolate, coconut, and bananas. Very delicious.
Easily a new favourite and my go to tea to wake up in the morning.
Update from a few years later, still a tea I restock whenever I run out. It's a great replacement for coffee in the morning, both in its delicious bold flavour and caffeine level.
Strong flavor of chocolate and some nuttiness, good cup
Always a hit. This tea is creamy and chocolatey. A perfect way to enjoy a coffee taste without the bitterness or jitters of coffee
This was so good I will definitely be ordering this again soon
I absolutely love this tea. I was a teavanna customer and my main tea was the Javanamatte. This have been a good replacement for that. It also makes a really good iced tea.
Earthy and hazelnut blend together with chocolate, add some cream and sugar and this makes a fabulous morning cup!
I'm just getting into the mates the Samurai is one of my favorites. This one didn't disappoint either. I love hazelnut and that really came through in this blend, i added a drop of hazelnut cream to really highlight and was very enjoyable
My favorite tea! I love that it has a coffee feel to it! It's a perfect blend hot or cold!
Can’t get enough of this. I do add cocoa powder to give it a more chocolate flavor. Better than a cup of Joe.
I was expecting more from this tea. The steeping temperature is confusing but I believe it may be so the hazelnut flavoring doesn't burn. When you do get the temp right and use a hefty amount of loose leaf you can make a good brew. Works well with cream.
A mocha nutty flavor will brighten your day. Oh, trust me, this is worth trying.
This is a solid for me. I LOVE this tea. It's rich without being bitter. I love it hot or cold and if you add a little milk or cream you have a mate latte. It's spectacular.
A great alternative to coffee! I love maté for my morning pick-me-up, and this one has a nice strong flavor. It’s good on its own, but mixed with peppermint and a touch of cream it’s like dessert.
so warm and cozy, very hot-chocolate with hazelnut vibes
Another favorite. It's sweet, nutty & smooth.
Both my husband and I greatly enjoyed this tea hot. I added a touch of oat milk which made it even creamier than it already was. After reading some other reviews, I'll be trying this cold when my refill comes in.
Smells like hazelnut coffee, just without the jitters and harsh taste. The caffeine level might not be exactly the same as with coffee, but it still packs a good energy boost. No cream and sugar needed.
I loved the delivery time , and the flavors were amazing! There were so many layers to be enjoyed and they all came through.
Great dupe for Samurai Chai Mate if you miss that from Teavana
HEAVEN. Toasty, nutty, with a hint of chocolate. A great alternative to coffee and delicious sweetened or unsweetened in my opinion.
Dry leaves aromas chocolate & nuts smell divine! I prefer this blend cold brew as it makes for a smooth flavorful cuppa. Hot is delicious too but I tend to need to add sweetener and milk to drink it to my liking. Cold brew the mocha and hazelnut flavors are forward and the mate shows up in the after taste. A flavorful cup that wakes me up!
Initially, i didn t like this tea, but after following a few recommendations in the reviews of other people (Adding some honey, i don t usually like making my teas sweet but there are a few exceptions. And I steeped at a lower temp). These have helped, and I can now enjoy it @adagioteas
Pretty yummy the more you steep it. Not as sweet as I like on its own. I tend not to add sweetener to my tea but I think I will give it a try next time.
This is a strange one, but not in a bad way!! I wish I could describe it better, but it's without a doubt chocolatey and nutty, with a distinct black tea flavor, but somehow it all works even though it doesn't seem like it should. I find myself drinking this one more often than not.
The nutty and chocolatey notes are excellent. However, it feels like they serve to mask the mate flavor, rather than working in harmony with it. The notes make the mate seem too astringent and stand out awkwardly. Still an enjoyable chocolate blend, though.
Another favorite. It's sweet, nutty, smooth. Like a more grown up cup of hot cocoa.
A great tea for the holidays, and a good winter warmer in general. I've found it good both hot and allowed to cool and served cold. It has enough natural sweetness that I don't find the need to add anything to it. The cocoa/mocha component is present, but not overwhelming, allowing some of the natural taste of the mate to come through as well.
This tea tastes like candy and I wish I could drink it before bed! Strong hazelnut flavors throughout are complemented by sweet and creamy chocolate. The toasty mate is the perfect complement for this super sweet combo.
This is my favorite coffee substitute and the lower water temp means I can drink it sooner.
This tea is warm, nutty comfort in a cup. Absolutely delightful with cream and sweetener! A winter go-to for me.
A great alternative to coffee. The chocolate adds a perfect sweetness to it.
A lovely morning tea, this is the first mate I've had. It had plenty of mocha flavour with soft earthy-straw notes, and none of the bitterness that i expected from a mocha flavour. I found it easier on the stomach than black tea or coffee. The hazelnut flavor is subtle.
