Like a librarian that can quiet a group of rowdy teenagers 10 feet away with just a raise of her eyebrow, this mate is deceptively mild mannered. It has a light delicate citrus flavor. It is marvelously refreshing iced. It has no “tea” aftertaste, and certainly will not stain your cup nor teeth. However, it packs a wallop of caffeine. Enjoying with the Communitea today, and iced throughout the summer.

I don’t have a lot of experience with Mate, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. I found it very mild, and didn’t get a whole lot of citrus flavor. Still, it was smooth and pleasant in a different kind of way. While not my favorite so far, I think this is a tea that I could develop a taste for over time.

This is a pleasant mild tea with a little citrusy backdrop. I found that it needed no sweetener and was easy to guzzle down on this Monday morning because it is brewed for 5 minutes at only 150 degrees. I will also try a second steep and chill it for later.

My Communitea package had no orange pieces, just leaves. So all I get from this tea is mate hay taste and no citrus. I keep waiting for citurs flavor and I don't know where it is.

A wake me up tea!
Does the sun taste of citrus?
Cheerful, light and bright?
I really think so!
This yellow tea is sunny!
Calling out ‘Wake up!’

I did not enjoy today's tea. Though I'm sure that's because I dont like mate teas

CommuniTEA packet tasting, I followed Jim’s tips in his review and enjoyed a nice cup of mate. The notes of citrus played nicely with the earthy mate. It wasn’t too bitter and the flavors evolved as it cooled. Happy sipping!
UPDATE: I poured about 10 oz of cold water over the mate and left it in a mason jar in the sun all day. I chilled it overnight and ended up with a light, refreshing Monday morning cup of chilled mate with notes of citrus. Sip, sip away!

Citrus Mate
Recommended Steep: 3-5 minutes @150°F
I steeped this blend for about for 4 minutes at 160°F, since I don’t have a 150°F setting on my teapot, in 11 oz of water with 1 tsp of rock/tea sugar. Before starting the steep I added a tablespoon of cool water to the bottom of my mug to bring the temperature down a little.
This blend smelled amazing upon opening the packet. It was a moderate, very citrus-y aroma with lemon and orange predominating. I almost imagined I smelled some pineapple and oddly enough, banana as well, but these ingredients are not listed, so, maybe wishful thinking? Anyway it smelled wonderful.
The aroma faded a little as the steeping progressed, but when it first started it seemed to intensify a little.
This proved to be a very mild, gentle tea, and I think I will use a greater tea-to-water ratio in the future than the sample allowed this time around, in an effort to magnify the flavors a little. Still this is a very enjoyable tea that I would like to try again sometime. 4.75 stars from me

The citrus blends nicely with the flavor of mate. Lovely aroma when I opened the packet. Nice mate blend!
6/6/2022 - discovered I have a sensitivity to mate. This blend is really good...but I can't drink it.

Citrus mate tastes citrusy and earthy, green, mate—exactly as it’s name implies. Very nice.

This is my first experience with Yerba Mate tea. I decided I like it. I think it is more of a savory tea, a bit like a broth. Either way I enjoyed it.

I was encouraged to try this mate tea after sampling a couple of Adagio's other mate varietals in the Herbal Portions Sampler. I really liked the subtle citrus flavor in this one. Still tastes great if you let it cool down, too (which is fortunate, since it has such a low steeping temp to begin with). I didn't find the caffeine to be that strong, personally, which is my only reason for not giving a full five stars. It wasn't quite the morning pick me up I was looking for and I will stick to black teas instead, but this is a great tea for an afternoon perk up.

Only good in the morning. Heavily caffeinated tea. If you dont respond well to caffeine, I wouldnt recommend this @adagioteas

I love the citrus mate for several reasons. It is delicious and tastes like a chai. It is so healthful with the Yerba mate. It has no caffeine yet gives a good bolt of energy. It steeps at least 2 times. I enjoy it plain but also like it with milk or cream. I steeped it at 170( as my packet tea said) but that temp may have been an error in printing since you are suggesting 212. I likes it anyway so I guess it didn’t matter much to me since I always let my teas cool anyway

A little too herbal for my own liking, but the citrus notes brighten it up considerably and pair well with the earthiness of the Mate.

Had my tea a little late today. I am enjoying it after dinner, not a bad time to enjoy a delicious tea blend.

Light refreshing tea with high caffeine. The five stars is based on flavor. I could only take a couple sips because of the high caffeine content. This would be a good choice for anyone that likes to drink light teas with high caffeine for energy.

I enjoyed this tea but I do feel that it could have more of a citrus flavor. It’s more like green tea with citrus undertones.

I have never liked mate. The previous times I have tried it, I thought it tasted funny and ended up with weird jitters. This meant I was shocked when trying this Communitea sample and found this tea to be enjoyable. The citrus was light and merged with the mate to make an easy-sipping tea. Unsure if I was brewing mate wrong previously, messed it up this time or the tea deities smiled on me today but, whatever it was that made this tea a nice cuppa, I'll take it!

Toasty and citrusy aren’t usually flavors in the same cup, but they paired well for a nice wake up tea.

I love the bright citrus notes in this tea it is so good, but the toasty mateness makes it strange, every sip tastes different I wouldn't go out if my way to drink it but was grateful to sample it.

Yerba mate often makes a very earthy brew and, while the citrus notes contrast with the earthiness, it just isn't enough to take this blend to anything resembling another level. It's brighter than unflavored mate but not by much.

A mate I can tolerate! Still will never be my favorite tea in the world, but this blend is pleasant, without the bitterness I typically get from a mate.

Such a refreshing citrus tea! I am a sucker for citrus in teas. Love most of them. The citrus flavors blend so well with the peppery, earthy mate. I love the zing on my tongue as I drink this. I woke up the mate with a little cool water and then steeped with 160° water for 4 mins. Added just a wee bit of honey to brighten the citrus flavors. These flavors come forward even more as it cools. I chilled my second steep and squeezed a little lime in it. This is an excellent iced tea. This may need to be a summer staple in my tea cabinet. Cheers!

This was the first mate that I could remember loving! It was mild and citrusy and gave a boost just by its wonderful flavour! This cup was gone in no time and I was shocked to find myself looking at the bottom of my cup.

I'm not a huge fan of lemon flavoured teas. This one wasn't too bad. It has a crisp lemon flavour and has a sweetness to it.
But I'm still not a fan of lemon-flavoured teas... I think it would be nice to have when you have a sore throat or something.

Smells wonderfully in the bag! Nice clean citrus smell! Once brewed, it tastes a bit like green tea, which isn't my favorite tea. The citrus is there, so it helps with the grassy green taste. I've never had mate before, so I didn't know what to expect. This tea isn't bad, just the similarity to green tea isn't for me.

I like yerba mate. Love that is a high caffeine herbal tea. It smelled very citrusy out of the packet and in the cup. The citrus taste was very faint . This was a very smooth enjoyable cup cup .I added an orange slice to it to perk it up a notch.

This citrus mate is much too herbal for me. It reminds me of chamomile which I do not enjoy. I also don't get much citrus either unfortunately.

The lightly herbal flavor of yerba mate works perfectly with citrus in this blend. What surprises me about this blend is the almost buttery feeling on the finish. Lovely!

Wonderful flavor, citrus with a hint of that background mate smokiness. I wish mate teas weren’t brewed at 150 degrees, it doesn’t feel hot even at the start and I like a nice hot tea!

I just can't get down with mate, so take my review for what it is worth. The smell of the citrus in the packet and on the nose seemed promising but the overall taste was very muted. The woodsy/menthol notes of the mate just don't delight my tastebuds. I gave it the old college try, but sorry, it's not for me! Happy Sipping!

This one has a slow build. On your first sip, there isn't a lot of flavor, but each successive sip brings more and more citrus goodness alive. And, the caffeine kick is always a good bonus - lol!
