I like citrus flavors, but this blend is a little overwhelming with the taste of lemon, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. I like it okay but I think it would taste slightly better if I grated a little bit of ginger to the mix.
The herbal-grassy notes of Argentine Yerba Mate enhanced with the lively taste of ripe citrus fruits. Contains caffeine.

I'm not a fan of very fruity teas and I don't like mate, so imagine my surprise when I really liked this! The fruity taste was much more 'real' than most I've had, and everything was very balanced. Refreshing and fun!
Communitea Review: I only drank two sips of this one. It tasted like I imagined lemon flavored Pinesol would taste.
I like mate and the citrus was a nice added flavor.
I can imagine straight Yerba Mate might be a bit much, but this blend of citrus and YM wasn't off putting. It is an acquired taste. I look forward to exploring Mate blends further.
If you need coffee in the morning..this is a great summer substitute. This tea will give you what you crave in the morning with a light citrusy flavor.
I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. It has a nice refreshing citrus taste of lemon and orange and doesn't fail me in the caffeine department! I'm finding I like citrus teas more and more these days. I imagine this one would have worked well cold too.
7/14/2023: Drank this with the communitea, this time it gave me a Tang vib. That low brew temp is tricky.
7/13/2020: I enjoyed this tea. I think it tastes like a green tea with lemon added. The yerba mate has a rounded flavor on the tongue where may green teas are dry, but still has that earthy/grassy tone. The citrus is a refreshing addition for a summer tea. Drinking it hot.
Pleasant, not overly strong tasting. I get lemon, lime and mate. Nothing I am going to purchase a full container of but still Pleasant.
Like others, this was mostly mate for me. I added a healthy squirt of lemon to try to amp up the citrus and poured it over ice, but it still wasn’t to my taste. If you’re totally into mate, then you can probably add a star or 2 to my rating. Update 2023: this is so delicious! I hot steeped at 160° and poured over ice, just as before… and it was so delicious! Lots of citrus this time and it gave me energy without feeling jittery. Definitely love!
A light citrus tartness combines with an herbal flavor and a slight peppery aftertaste making a very nice cup of tea.
In the packet, it had a subtle aroma of light citrus. Upon steeping, this nose nearly disappeared. However, with a tip of clover honey, the gentle citrus came through. The colour is similar to pale ale. It is a very light citrus, easy sipping tea. I look forward to the caffeine hit this morning.
This mate is light and easy-drinking, with a lovely lemon note that lifts the tea just that much more. I found the tea smooth, with no bitterness, and I would absolutely drink it again, especially if I needed to jump-start a morning. Steeped 4 min at 150º.
Hmmm… this is one interesting tea! It’s an herbal tea with caffeine. It’s got a super light taste and barely tints the water after 5 minutes. I do not think I’ve ever brewed a tea at 150 before. Usually I brew at higher temps.
In the bag: Similar to the Adagio photo, but my packet only has two small pieces of orange rind. It also has a few strands of marigold flowers.
On the nose (pre-steep): Lemon and orange are the prominent aromas. No sugar here - rather, these are the savory, somewhat tart scents of citrus pith.
On the nose (post-steep): Flavors are similar to pre-steep, but are much softer. Clean nose feel.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Mild citrus notes are joined by a soft, sweet taste of dried grass. No astringency.
I didn't add sweetener as the blend already had a natural sweetness.
Opinion: A decent blend that is easy to drink, but I'm not sure the flavors work together. The citrus doesn't seem an ideal pairing for the soft grasses of mate. Perhaps mate aficionados will adore it.
Preparation: First steep 5 min, second steep 10 min. Both @ 160 ℉. No sweetener.
I enjoyed this with some honey! I think it’s a nice healthy sip.
10 oz, 3 mins @ 150* F, divided - both with sweetener.
The smell, dry, was very strong of meyer lemon - not a flavor I like. I'm hesitant, but will at least try a sip, both hot and cold.
Hot
The mate isnt bothersome but the meyer lemon is. I won't finish this. I'll sip it cold, but I don't have high hopes.
Cold
I can't get past that meyer lemon smell to bring myself to sip this cold.
Meyer lemons and Key limes are citrus that I do not enjoy. Traditional lemons and limes - those I enjoy.
refreshing and nice in the morning. I'm more of a fan of the original yerba mate, but this is a nice twist if you're looking for something different.
My absolute favorite mate; fantastic with a bit of sweetener, as all mates are. I started with a sample and now order in bulk.
I did not get the citrus flavor as much as I would've hoped for. I enjoyed the nice little kick from the caffeine though.
Lovely and light citrus flavor that is wonderful to have any day of the week.
UPDATE 7/5/22: I wanted to give this tea another shake and ordered the sample size, and I was definitely more impressed with the second go around. All ingredients were present, which lead to a pleasant sip with hints of citrus flavor. Still not my favorite, but I could see myself getting this into my rotation of morning teas.
CommuniTEA Sample: This was my first time with mate, so I went in not quite knowing what to expect. I was excited for a citrusy, high caffine tea to start my day. When opening the packet, I wasn't impressed. Just leaves and no citrus pieces at all. After steeping it tasted well enough, like a smooth green tea, but it didn't really stand out as good or bad. Might be more refreshing iced? A solid 'meh.'
Today's CommuniTea packet was citrus mate with yerba mate tea, orange, lemon and orange flavors, and marigolds. I'm not really fond of mate, and I'm reasonably congested with allergies, so this was doubtful going in. I poured an ounce or two of cool water over the leaves and then added 165-degree water to make 11 ounces overall, and let it steep for about three minutes. After I removed the infuser basket, I added about an ounce or so of orange juice to increase the citrus flavor. The orange juice undoubtedly helped and gave me some vitamin C, but it wasn't a drink I'd go out of my way to repeat. If you like mate in the first place, definitely give it a try.
This was my first mate tea. I liked the nice, light flavor with hints of citrus. I think it would make a delicious iced tea.
For me, mate has adverse effects on my heart, so I do not imbibe. However, the flavor is pleasant, if somewhat to get al for me. The citrus notes in today's blend improved the overall flavor
I thought I liked this one last year, but since I didn’t review it I couldn’t check. I did not like it this year. Mate is hit and miss for me. I don’t care for that much caffeine, or for the tobacco flavor it has sometimes. For some reason this one smelled off to me. It smelled like yellow mustard, which I don’t like. I still gave it a try, but it’s definitely not for me.
A nice light citrus. Calming while still getting a boost from the toasty mate
A subtle citrus flavor that wakes you up to face the day.
The mate adds a really interesting flavor, it tastes like toasty orange! The citrus is very light which pairs nicely with the toasty mate. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this one!
This was my first mate and I really enjoy it. It had a nutty and clean flavor. Added a little raw sugar and it was great!
CommuniTEA 6/6/22: I loved this tea!! Light herbal flavor, citrus forward. Overall a lovely way to start the day. I'm not a mate drinker, but I would get this again.
Very mild flavor, which some people love, but I don't. The citrus barely comes through, the mate flavor is nice though!
A nice light and bright citrus blend, would be fantastic for iced on a hot summer morning.
Sadly, I wasn't a fan of this one. The taste was light, which is fine but just ok. It also left my mouth very dry with a tingling sensation that lasted for a long time. With so many other amazing Adagio blends to choose from, I think mate maybe just isn't for me.
I absolutely loved today's tea. The flavors and the smell, just everything about this tea was great.
I’m sorry but this tea hardly had any taste at all for me. I heated the water to 150, poured over and covered for 3 minutes. The color was a very pale yellow and pretty much no taste, so I put the strainer basket in for an additional 2 minutes covered. It was a slightly darker yellow and maybe a little flavor but I had to work hard to try to detect them. I enjoy the flavored teas when we’ll-balanced so this is a definite no for me.
i brewed this hot with some additional orange peels but the flavor seemed a bit underwhelming, so i let it cool down completely and it was amazingly citrusy and tasty!
This is a very light tasting tea with mild citrus notes. I had to focus on each sip to get the flavor, otherwise it was a bit watery tasting. I do like the extra caffeine boost that mate gives. (reviewed through CommuniTEA; 5 min @ 150F)
This blend can be drunk hot or cold. It has a strong mate flavor and a mild citrus flavor.
I love the taste and aesthetic of Mate in blends or on it's own! I don't know why, I think Mate's make a blend look so extra yummy. So, I did not necessarily get a ton of citrus taste with my cup today..but still, much love to all Mate's!
Today's CommuniTEA is Citrus Mate (6-6-22). Upon opening my packet, I noticed it was all like little green and yellow leaf bits (or at least that's how it looked to me) so I assume most of the flavors are infused into the leaves. I added some orange peels and sourwood honey. My understanding is that this tea is very particular and needs a lower steep temp so I did not heat my water quite as hot as I usually do and I only steeped it for a few minutes before pulling the basket of tea out. I let it cool off and... YUM! Absolutely so good!! It is a very light tea with just the right amount of sweetness. It's not bitter or lemony at all. I really love this tea and I look forward to having the bag of it in my cabinet! 😍
Since I only had the daily CommuniTEA portion to work with, I can't speak for this tisane as a hot brew, but as an iced tea, it's wonderfully refreshing. Given mate's preference for a low water temperature, a cold-steep seemed like a natural fit. The result was a lightly citrus and mildly herbal infusion. With it's caffeine boost, it could easily pass for a wake-up call on a muggy summer morning or an energizing recharge on a hot summer day.
A slow sip for this tea! I enjoyed the earthy, mild citrus flavors present, and added a little sugar. Perfect tea for a tired morning. 4 mins @ 160°F
This is a simple and refreshing mate - pillowy, slightly vegetal, and just a hint of lemony citrus on the aftertaste. This is a very mild sip, but beautiful in its simplicity.
This is a nice mate, which gives a wonderful energy boost. I love the caffeine content of this tea!
CommuniTEA portion: This tea was enjoyable enough, just not my favorite. I really didn't get much citrus or anything. Just a very very light tea. I attempted the 'wake up' method but I may have just not done it all correctly. Up for trying it again! Maybe it made me super caffienated but I'm not sure yet! :-)
A very tasty tea blend, light and refreshing. It is delicious hot or cold. Just put the leaves in the Mate gourd added warm water, waited for about 6 minutes and enjoyed. Love the citrus zing too. Great tea to start the day.
I didn't see any citrus pieces in my packet but I did get the flavor. The citrus balanced out the mate nicely but it seemed fairly light like an underteeped citrus green tea. It was good for a caffeine kick though!
UPDATED from 10/8/21: There is a slight citrus aroma coming from the short yerba mate leaves, and they steep into a pale chartreuse (yellow green) tea. This has a lovely flavor, full bodied and rich, with no astringency. The lightly citrusy taste is good without any sweetener. Adding ⅛ teaspoon of sweetener does not hurt, however, and makes the citrus flavor stand out more. ( 4 mins @ 150ºF).
It had a faint citrus flavor that was nice, but it was a rather light tea. I prefer stronger flavors.
