White Monkey Customer Reviews

Green tea from the slopes of the Taimu Mountains in Fujian, China. The delicate, unopened buds appear perfectly white against the young, opened green leaves. Warm colored liquor with a fresh, almost wildflower sweet scent and slightly dry finish.

I'm currently torn, I will have to give this another try. My initial sip was overwhelmingly grassy... I was immediately put off. But later sips were smooth, light, almost buttery light green as I had expected!?

I found this tea to be very light in flavor (closer to a white than a green, IMO) and had a soft sweetness.

Perhaps I have an unrefined palate but upon first taste I didnt taste anything at all. It is a pretty color but over all I felt more like I was just drinking dyed water, even my sister agreed.

Previous review from 2/28/25, update: This tea is very light, but it's sweet. It does have some bitter aspects to it, but generally, I would say that it felt very light and floral in a very sweet way this time! I wish the flavor were a little bit stronger, whether that be sweeter or a bit more of the grassy flavor I described before.

CommuniTEA sample: 2 min @ 180, second infusion for 3 min @ 180. This is a grassy tea, be warned if you do not like grassy teas. It's noticeably bitter, but it also has some subtle notes that I really appreciate. Some sweet aspects, reminding me a little bit of nice, steamed vegetables. Maybe a little bit toasty as well. Very warm, calming, inviting to drink, and the lovely aroma. There's a subtle, honey-like sweetness to the aroma along with a slight, salty, hint of seaweed. There is some dryness towards the back, so be warned, it is bitter and dry, but there are a lot of pleasant flavors in here too.

8.23 always good. reminds me of chicken broth; don't hold that against it.

this is probably my favorite green adagio tea so far. did 3 min steep. no sweetener needed. mild, 'warm-hay' fragrance and kind of taste? but not grassy. not sweet, not bitter, incredibly soothing and rejuvenating. I will order this one if I want a green tea in the house.

very light tea with lots of flavor and almost a sweet mushroom scent. i found short steeps of this gave the best results.
20 seconds at 125 then discard liquid, then 30 seconds at 125 for each steep after that.
the second and third steep tasted teh best and i got maybe 6 good steeps from this. good tea for sharing with a small group.

This tea is an Adagio classic that I first had... well, a long time ago! I bought it again and am sipping a mug right now. If I had to pick one tea on this site that represents green tea in its most archetypal form, this would be it. It has all green tea flavor notes without too much of any. You could call it MOR, but it's about as good as MOR gets! A bit grassy, a bit vegetal, a bit floral, and a bit bitter--but it's all in perfect balance. Moreover, in this case, balanced is not boring. White Monkey has a *lot* of flavor, and at Adagio's reasonable price point (I recommend the 8 oz bag!), it makes, in my opinion, an outstanding daily drinker.

Very light this one is great for when you want tea that tastes good but doesn't overwhelm you with flavor and smell

Very nice, I mostly got floral notes. Delicate and fun at the same time. Of course this is better just plain to savor and enjoy its complexity. I tried hot, but I think I'm going to experiment and try iced in the warmer weather.

If you really love an earthy, lemon grass type tea - this would be very nice and refreshing. This is not a flavor profile that we enjoy much, but it is not BAD :)

Not very strong, but it did taste vaguely fruity.

This was a good green tea. I wasn't blown away by any means, but it was pleasantly light in some of the flavors that make me dislike some greens. I approached the temp and time with caution as I did not want to drink a bitter green. I normally use a large mug when drinking almost all teas, but with this one I think I would personally prefer it in lower volumes at a time. Just a good, light, and mellow green.

I really enjoyed holding the glass of tea up to my nose and just breathing in the scent repeatedly. So peaceful. Sipping it I found it to be a pleasant and meditative tea that I enjoyed very much. 185F for three minutes. Really lovely.

★★★★☆

A good, complex and toasty green tea that evokes a roastedness a la a genmaicha. Assertive and full bodied, this is a drinkable variant that would be a good everyday tea.

Well. Wasn’t that a surprise?!! Not the typical green tea. Not as much bitterness, but still the greenness. My first sip reminded me of fresh cooked spinach…in a good way. But now all I taste is a clean tea. Probably my favorite green tea so far!

Interesting, I like it first sip, not the next. Let it sit a few minutes and I like it again. Soft pastel golden sage color, smooth mouth feel, green on the tongue like the bottom of a steamed veggies pot liquor, pleasantly surprising to me that I would enjoy it so. This is a sipping tea that I'm thinking serves best in a shallow tea cup not a mug. Interesting experience.

This is one of those green teas that you really have to slow down to sip and savor. If you're in a hurry you will miss the complexity of it. There's a bit of floral, a hint of grassiness, and I detect a slight nuttiness. In the end, it's a smooth, relaxing tea.

My go-to tea. Soft flavor with a bit of grassiness. The first brew I make short to catch the light almost sweet flavor and the second brew longer to catch a bit more forceful flavor.

A pleasant tea, but my personal preference is for teas with a stronger flavor. However, despite the subtlety of this tea, I found it a pleasant and interesting shift from my usual black and oolong teas.

The aroma of White Monkey is floral, fruity, honey, and sweet. It smells like a bouquet of fresh flowers, or a basket of ripe fruits. The aroma is enchanting and enticing, but also delicate and refined. It makes me want to inhale and savor the fragrance. The flavor of White Monkey is delicate, mild, smooth, light, and refreshing. It has a gentle and subtle taste, with a hint of sweetness and a touch of fruitiness. It is a tea that caresses your tongue your throat, but also cleanses your palate. It is a tea that will relax you and rejuvenate you.

A wonderful green tea. I gauge if I've correctly brewed this tea by how 'seaweed-ey' it smells. I have just found the magical combination of time and temperature for a wonderful cup: Brew slightly below the recommended temperature, at approx. 170-175F, steep for slightly longer, at approx. 4 minutes, and add slightly more than the normal amount of tea leaves for the cup. Don't worry -- you'll be able to make more than one cup out of it! Just make sure to steep your second cup at a slightly higher temp, around 185-190F if I were to guess.

Finally: It's hard to measure this tea by using a teaspoon measuring spoon, due to the size and shape of the dried leaves. I would recommend measuring by weight (3g to 8oz is recommended, I would recommend slightly more at approx. 3.5g? You don't need to add much more).

For green tea enjoyers looking for something a bit more 'out there,' this is a great tea! It's surprisingly savory, and the seaweed is the highlight of the tea. It sounds strange, but it's great!

There is a fresh aroma as the CommuniTEA opens. The ingredients steep into a pale golden color. What a mild tea - almost reminds me of a white tea. This has a soft mouthfeel. Sipping this is like sipping sun warmed hay. There is no astringency. It is good just as is, so needs no additions to be enjoyed. (2 mins @ 180ºF)
