Sleeping Dragon Customer Reviews

Tightly rolled fuzzy buds give a soft, fruity sweetness enfolded by a rich, smoky note similar to gunpowder, but more complex and crisp.

Today's CommuniTea packet is sleeping dragon, a very smooth green tea brewed in 12 ounces of 180-degree water for two minutes.

How fun to watch the tea leaves unfurl! I enjoyed this light smoky tea with a drop of honey.

CT 5/19/23 - I had 3.4 g of little balls so I got out the Ingenutea so I could watch them unfurl. It was so much fun - I would swear some of the leaves opening looked like dragons. Hot this tea was too grassy tasting for me. I stuck with it as it cooled and the flavor did improve a bit. I made the cup but didn’t consider a second one. For green tea lovers this is probably a very nice tea - it was just not a winner for me.

I love the name of this tea. Watching the leaves unfurl, always makes me smile. For a plain green tea, this one is smooth and enjoyable.

A green tea for those who enjoy smokey and vegetal notes. Unfortunately, not one for my tastes.

I love a flavorful green tea. This is vegetal and grassy through multiple steeps.

It’s more drinkable than most greens for me. Rather than tasting grassy or like seaweed, this one had sweeter hay like tones. It created a middle ground that made this tea more drinkable especially with food.

Beautifully light, slightly grassy and earthy, I really enjoyed this one, somehow hit Meh instead of Yay, no going back now

I don’t like earthy and grassy and smoky green teas not for me.

A little too grassy for my taste - may have oversteeped it. Would recommend 2 minutes max.

I really enjoyed the first steep of my Sleeping Dragon tea. It was flavorful without being grassy, more similar to Gunpowder in taste. My second steep was surprisingly bitter, and then I read the other sippers’ reviews, enabling me to avoid the mistake of letting the tea get cold. Who knew? Doesn’t happen to other green teas. I’m now enjoying the third steep which tastes a little weak, but has zero bitterness. I steeped it at 180 degrees for 2 minutes for each steep and added no sweetener. I will be happy to try this again but this time I will make sure to drink it all while it’s still warm.

I bought this green tea at 180 for two minutes. It was very light and not overpowering.

Steeped the tea in my new Yixing teapot and it probably sure it biased me toward this tea. Regardless, I do feel the tea had a nice flavor especially after I added orange flavored honey. Nice light crisp tea without tasting like grass leaves. The coumuniTea serving has steeped at least three good brews of 7 oz each. Not expecting much from the 4th but I'll see.

What starts as a tiny sleeping dragon opens up into a wonderful, whole leaf green tea. Very reminiscent of a lightly oxidized oolong, this green tea is packed full of flavor. I did gong-fu it a bit heavy and the dragon bite was there. Back off on the tea:water ratio and steep temp it smooths right out. A very good tea!

This is an excellent green tea with a nice mix of grassiness, earthiness, and almost a kind of sweetness/creaminess. Definitely one of my favorite greens that I've had from Adagio!

My Chinese zodiac sign is the dragon, so I’m not surprised that I love this tea! I adore a little theater in my life, so watching the dragons start to roar as they unfurl in my steeper is the opening curtain for this tea. The taste is pure umami goodness. This drinks like a rich vegetal broth with just a hint of flintiness on the back of the sip. It is a deep, delicious brew. This one is a “three steeper and a keeper” as Jim would say, so brew this up on a day when you can relax with your cup. I will definitely be buying more of this beauty! Happy Sipping!

I don't normally like green tea but this one was enjoyable. The flavor is mild but nice to drink.

A brilliant tea. I was impressed at how well the smooth green leaves unrolled in 3 minutes. First sip felt buttery and tastes nutty. Very little 'green' taste.

UPDATED from 2/18/21: The dark, curled sleeping leaves smell of wet grass as the CommuniTEA packet opens. It is fun to watch them awaken in the hot steep water as they unfurl and stretch out to fill the infuser and create a lovely golden liquid. Awake, they smell of fresh hay and are surprisingly sweet to taste, so this needs no additions to be enjoyed. This gentle dragon could be Puff (the magic dragon) or Falkor (the luck dragon from The Neverending Story) because his smoky astringency is so mild and well mannered. He is full bodied and holds his own when paired with food, but he is timid and shy so is not to be feared. His finish is so clean and fresh, my mouth loves the crispness. As he cools down he gets a bit more bitter, but yet remains so soft and creamy. On the third steep adding a little sweetner (¼ teaspoon for 10 oz) and this dragon actually purrs. I always have Gunpowder for tea parties, but I think I will be getting this wonderful dragon tea for everyday. (1st steep 3:30 mins @ 180ºF, subsequent steeps 2 mins @ 180ºF + sweetener if desired).

I have to be careful with green teas. I have a real physical aversion to green teas that have grassy notes...one sip and I'm done. I think it's intrinsic like my aversion to cilantro. For me, it tastes and smells terrible. Strangely enough I love eating vegetables but a grassy green tea...I just can't. Makes no sense but I listen to my body and avoid them. BUT...I love teas that unfurl and I have learned to at least try each green variety because not all of them have grassy notes. I am pleased to note that this tea is lovely! It has a sweet aroma...no hint of hay or grass when I opened my packet. Brewed 3 minutes at 180...perfect cup of tea! And it unfurled beautifully! The taste is slightly sweet...very light...with a subtle hint of smokiness. A very smooth tea...I kept thinking of curling up in front of the fire, listening to some soft jazz and reading a great book...and sipping this tea! :) Will definitely order this one!

Very light and soothing. This is the closest in flavor to my favorite tea at the local sushi restaurant.

I appreciate it when a green tea doesn't taste like lawn clippings or seaweed. This one smells of hay and tastes of minerals. It's slightly vegetal, but not enough to be off-putting for someone like me. I don't pick up the fruity character mentioned in the description, though. Steeped 2 min @ 180-ish.

I brewed it to gif style and got 7 delicious steeps from it. Nutty, vegetables, smooth & buttery and slight smokiness to the infusions.

For a basic green tea, this one is light and smooth with barely there grassiness. Brewed at 2 min, it was perfect, no bitterness, no aftertaste. This is not a hardcore tea I would normally drink at 6 am, but I liked the nutty flavor that develops as it cools down. An all around lovely tea.

Smells and tastes like green tea. If I enjoyed green tea, I'm sure this one would be good as the leaves were nicely rolled. For the sake of quality I'm giving 4 stars, otherwise based on flavor alone, this would have been a 2 from me.

This was a lovely green tea! The vegetal flavor and aroma wasn’t overpowering, but still had a lot of flavor with a bit of sweetness.

Update: I'm lowering my review to 3 stars. I tried a few more infusions and this tea is very easy to over steep making it very bitter. At this price point I would highly recommend getting Fujian Orchid or Golden Flower Oolong instead. Both taste better and are more forgiving in terms of water temperature and steeping times.

The aroma of this tea definitely reminds me of Dragonwell. The flavor is sort of a blend of Dragonwell and a bit of gunpowder tea. It's less smokey than gunpowder. I would be shocked if this wasn't some cultivar of Dragonwell but processed differently and grown in a different location.

Light, slightly grassy, mildly astringent, slightly more pronounced on the second steeping. Quite pleasant.

Love this tea. In the neighborhood of dragon well; not as nutty, but a little more flavor.
Classic green tea flavor and aroma like Bigelow green tea bag, but much better in every way.

Too strong and bitter for me the sample size packet will be one of the last to go in my drawer of 30

Glorious! Faintly floral without being too forward, the leaves unroll beautifully, and it brews fairly well the second time around!

I loved this tea! I'm a sucker for rolled green teas and this one definitely didn't disappoint. I'll buy this one again, for sure.

We tried it cold brewed and agreed it tasted like boiled spinach with butter. Very interesting taste, will buy again.

While this is a pretty good green tea, it was not one that I found to be particularly noteworthy. Its about as basic as it gets.

This was a bit bitter if you overstepped it but just right at about 2 minutes but still a very strong tasting tea but good with honey.

First things first, I overbrewed this tea the first only time I’ve had it. I’m new to green tea but, I still enjoyed it! It had good complexity despite the bitterness from brewing error. It’s surprisingly smoky at first then with subsequent steepings, it progressively gets a kinda fruity sweetness. All with this earthy, grassy flavor overtop. The overbrewing seemed to convert the tea into a detox potion as well and that’s all I’m going to say. This made for a unique experience! lol
