Gunpowder is one of my favorites so reading that this was a lighter version I was really looking forward to the same general taste. It doesn't come through. It's a good green tea, light and not too bitter as long as you don't over brew it, but there's no even slightly smoky taste at all.
I love green teas and I think this one is my new favorite! The first cup had a sort of artichoke-like flavor and the second was a bit more subtle but still there.
Very much akin to a more refined gunpowder. It's subtle enough to be interesting but full enough to be a good everyday tea.

I received this as a sample with an order and I'm positively delighted with it. This has wonderful flavour without being terribly astringent. Think more of a broth-tea rather than liquified grass flavour. I tried steeping some for quite a while- 10 minutes- and while the flavour deepened, it was still very palatable.
Everyday tea of mine. Light, refreshing, a bit smokey, with no green taste. Nice astringency. Can be steeped twice. Very nice!

When I saw this tea in the store, I was drawn to it because of the name Sleeping Dragon. I thought it was going to put me fast to sleep. One of the salesperson explaine to me that it's not a sleep tea. I purchased it and I am so glad I did. A real nice smooth relaxing taste, This tea has been added to my special tea list.

One of the best green teas for the money, gunpowder was my go-to green tea before I discovered this one. Sleeping dragon is milder than gunpowder which to me can sometimes be overwhelmingly smokey.
Man I feel like I woke the dragon with this tea. I started my morning off with bad boy right here and I had the energy to take on my day and then some.

The first time I tried Sleeping Dragon, I was underwhelmed. I tried it as a replacement for gunpowder, which was out of stock at the time. I suppose I was comparing the two, and missed the smokiness present in gunpowder. After ordering a second time, I found myself really enjoying the subtle floral/sweet/veg flavors. A good, easy-to-enjoy green tea.

Yummy, it is very enjoyable. I bought this mostly for my partner as he is a big fan of gunpowder and other earthy teas. I would recommend trying a sample first though for the hesitant.

This is my everyday go-to tea. It's not very expensive, it tastes great, and it blends with other flavors really well. I like to add peppermint to it, or even mix it with some 'cocomint' green tea.

It has some of the bite of gunpowder without the harsh lingering aftertaste. Sleeping Dragon gives you a tap on the mouth and leaves it at that. It's definitely a strong green, but it isn't a kick in the face like gunpowder can be. The smokiness that is there is a nice balance, it's not overpowering or too mild to notice, and it makes a good morning brew. It would probably taste great blended with a light fruit flavored tea, like a peach or apple flavor, to help bring out a little more sweet flavor in the tea.
Robust green flavor. Made it for a friend, who commented 'I must have only had cheap gunpowder (which it looks like) teas compared to this.' The well-packed leaves are easy to measure out, too, which is nice for practicality.

Smokey with a tiny little vegetal/grassy aftertaste. Moderate astringency. A little bitter, even though I prepared it according to the directions, but not overly so? I haven't tried Gunpowder yet, so I can't compare. It's fun to watch the leaves unfurl in my ingeneuiTEA.

I enjoy this tea and use it as my everyday tea (4-6 cups at work). It has a good neutral green tea flavor that is not overpowering. pretty mild actually, I'm surprised it is compared to gunpowder.
The description sounds extremely snooty though, calling it a good tea 'for novices.' Any tea is fine for people new to tea drinking, and preferring one type of tea over another is not an indicator of experience.
Didn't like this as well as some other gunpowder-type teas I've tried. It's a bit sensitive to oversteeping.
A really good light tea. A little bit of a 'grassy' flavor, but not bad at all! Really good for days where you don't want anything too strong. Not to mention it's just fun to watch the 'pellets' unfurl as I brew the tea.
It tastes just like it's named! Majestic and smoky like a dragon nesting on top of its hoard. With just a smidge of sweetener, this blend is scrumptious and warm, but not just because the water is hot! It's warm tasting, like if you pressed against the belly of a sleeping dragon.

I love teas that unfurl, adds a hint of interest and fun to a cup of tea. This tea wasn't super delicious, but not awful either. It tastes a bit, I would imagine, like drinking a raisin.
This tea was very similar to gunpowder. I like them both equally so I think I'll stick to whichever is cheaper for the sake of my wallet. Very good and full bodied tea.

One of the best greens I've ever had. It's exactly what I look for in a green. just a hint of grassiness and a good smokiness. It doesn't need any sweetner and it's astringent in the right way. It's mild and smells good, and is all around a very pleasant and drinkable green. Will definitely buy again.
