Sencha Overture Customer Reviews

Classic steamed tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Rich, brothy texture (when steeped as strongly as you might find in Japan), refreshing aroma. Rounded finish that coats the palate, sweet flavor reminiscent of tender steamed veggies and fresh seaweed.

★★★★☆

Gorgeous green leaves, nice flavor. Highly recommended for an every-day Japanese green.

★★★☆☆

I found this tea to be so-so, there was to much dust in the tea for me which made the tea more bitter than in most senchas that I have had. I would recommend sticking with the sencha premier or the kukicha (very good), as they are good alternatives.

★★★★★

This is a staple tea for me. Priced right and a good flavor - clean plesant just slightly grassy. I always have some of this tea around for everyday use.

Great tasting tea. Great for any green tea lover. will defenitly get again.

★★★★☆

A very good daily drinking tea more me, slightly grassy if you brew it too long, but divine when brewed right.

At first glance this tea looked promising with nice looking leaves and a great color. But, the leaves had no real aroma to it. The resulting cup of tea was bland, and lacking in true sencha flavor. In its favor however is its color. The color was the perfect green of good sencha. While it's several steps up from the green tea available in the supermarket, its flavor is far below even the least expensive loose sencha available in Japan. Heck, I've had sencha teabags in Japan with more flavor. If you want to try real sencha, spend the extra money and try the sencha premier, it's closer to the real thing.

The Sencha Overture is an outstanding Green Tea and probably the best value on the site for Gren Tea. It's got a bitter bite to it if you steep it for more than a few minutes. Try steeping it for varying lengths of time and you'll experience quite a variety of different flavors from nice and mellow to very bitter to find the perfect taste for you. It is similar to the Sencha Premier (but much cheaper) as well as the Kukicha, which if you want an excellent Green Tea and don't want to spend much, is also an excellent choice at $19.00 a pound.

★★★★☆

Good blend of Japanese greens although it seemed a little more bitter than I'm used to. I think I may have steeped at too high a temperature though. Still, I good flavor and great color when brewed.

★★★★★

This is my favorite from the green tea sampler. It's the one I found myself coming back to. I always feel refreshed and revived after drinking a cup.

★★★★☆

I'm not sure what to think of sencha. There are alot of different flavors going on, some I really like and some I dont. It has an almost nutty smoothe taste layered over a sweet but very grassy vegetable taste.

I love green teas but this stuff is bad. I have made sure the temp was not to high. I have tried different amounts per cup based on other posts.
I have tried different brewing times. Nothing has helped. Alwas bitter and not a good flavor. I should have tried the sample first!

★★★★★

Sencha is a great tea for those who like green grassy tasting tea.

this tea didn't really impress me. it was *good*, very pleasant, but not outstanding. a good green for when I just want to drink something & don't feel as picky about the taste.

★★★★☆

A great value if you like Sencha tea. It is a green tea with a deeper flavor, the kind of which you get at japanese restaurants. Try it!

★★★★★

I loved it. I was surprised at how easy it was to order everything.

★★★★★

A wonderful green tea for those who prefer a vegetal taste. Watch the brewing time closely or it can be bitter.

I doubt my ability to rate this properly because I prefer flavored teas right now. Still, this has nice flavor for right now (autumn), I feel. To me it tastes like sweet grass and reminds me a bit of fragrant and warm straw or hay...it's been nice drinking it while the harvest time is starting here where I live.

★★★★★

Very comparable to the sencha premiere, beautiful jade green color, strong green taste. Feel the antioxidant power!

★★★★☆

the difference between this and the sencha premier is substantial, but i don't yet have a strong preference for one over the other. the sencha overture lacks the quality of premier in appearance, and does have that grassy seaweed-ish taste that other report.
for the moment, i favor whites and oolongs.

Excellent green, I really enjoy it after a big meal.

★★★★★

One of the best affordable senchas in the market. Great for every day drinking. And when cold brewed, it makes a very refreshing almost vegetal iced tea.

★★★★★

Hadn't had this prior to ordering it. Very good. I will definitely order it when I run out.

★★★★☆

A really nice mild flavor that I enjoy as ice tea in the summer. Seems hard to get, not always available.

★★★★☆

Second only to Gyokuro, 'spider-leg' green tea is a treat to be savored. With a little practice in brewing it properly, you will soon find this one of your daily rituals!

★★★★★

Very, very good! It has a pleasant, slightly sweet grassy taste with lots of expansion. Def ordering again :)

I made the mistake of trying the gyokuro tea FIRST, then buying and trying the sencha second. I got spoiled on the higher quality gyokuro and was at first disappointed by the sencha. But I gave the sencha a chance and I really like it as an everyday tea. Not as good as the gyokuro, but still very good.

★☆☆☆☆

Overpoweringly grassy, with undertones of fish (that?s what I said, fish). The only tea I have ever thrown in the trash.

★★★★☆

Very nice. A little grassy but it's good. The flavor was a little smokier than I'd expect for a green. That threw me off, somewhat, I guess

★★★★☆

Very convenient. I just loved the way it was packaged. I'd love to see more of this type of teabag for gyokuro.

★★★★★

One of the best greens, smells great like a newly mown lawn, or fresh seaweed (say yes to chlorophyl!). Very smooth and fresh tasting. I love the way it unfurls into recognizable leaf shapes. A green tea that brews green rather than pale brown or yellow.

A very good tea overall, but it has not blown me away. I prefer the gyokuro, which has a little more delicate taste, but I am not overpowered or upset by the 'grass clipping' taste that many people complain of.

Not as good as the sencha premier. Tastes like a cross between the premier and a 'grassy' green tea. If you don't want to dish out the $$$ for the premier, give the overture a try. A good way to conserve the premier is to mix it with the overture.

★★★★★

This is an outstanding sencha. It is dark green, and infuses to a bright, golden color in the cup. Highly recommended!

★★★★☆

A very earthy green tea. It's a good once in awhile tea, though not for everyday use (at least for me!)

★★★☆☆

Really good tea but not NEARLY as good as the sencha prelude. The overture was a little toasty...almost bitter and not quite as flavorful.

★★★★☆

The 3 minutes brewing time is too long. The tea turns bitter. If brewed for a shorter time, good light green tea taste. Can be a bit grassy.

★★★☆☆

Sencha isn't for beginners. It has a grassy taste that takes some getting used to.

The dry leaves go quite stale after a few months, more so than most greens. Nice vegetal flavor, but a bit bitter. Not bad for the price, but trying a good sencha might spoil you for this one.

I probably wouldn't buy this one again, as it tastes a bit 'grassy'. However, it does beat the pants of any grocery store bought green tea sandbags.

★☆☆☆☆

This is the worst green tea I have ever tasted. Very strong and bitter.

★★★★★

I was happy to see Adagio release this. I'm glad to see great quality tea in a teabag for once, unlike the stuff you buy in the store.

★★★★☆

A vey fine Shizuoka tea, good enough to drink every day, with a clean, healthy taste.

★★★★★

This is a wonderful tea and I will order this again!

★★★★★

Wonderful tea, very fresh, mixes well with other teas.

★★★★★

These have a light grassy scent and are just the thing for a pick-me-up at work.

★★★★★

This was the first time that I'd ever had any Japanese tea other than Genmai Cha. I love it. The leaves are small and delicate, and the overall look of the dried leaves is one of polished dark jade. The flavor is equally delicate and I once read that it has good digestive powers, which seems to be true, for me. Great tea!

★★★★★

Inexpensive yet very tasty. Pleasant wet grass flavor and bouquet. One of my three favorites in green tea from Adagio.

Light green color. Slight grassy flavor but not overpowering. Not a fruity green. It is rich tasting. Overall a very good green tea.

I know sencha is a popular tea, but it reminded me a hot liquid vegetables. I'm confident it's not the quality of the tea, but my taste buds.
