Sencha Overture Customer Reviews

Classic steamed tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Rich, brothy texture (when steeped as strongly as you might find in Japan), refreshing aroma. Rounded finish that coats the palate, sweet flavor reminiscent of tender steamed veggies and fresh seaweed.

This tastes like a fancy green tea. I would drink it everyday if I didn't have so many other teas. I sip it hot with a squeeze of lemon juice.

★★★★★

I really like Japanese green teas, and this sencha was really nice.

★★★★☆

A lovely vegetal tea that reminds me of spinach, one of my favorite foods. Drinking it makes me think of green grass in Maui.

★★★★★

A great 'everyday' tea. It goes well with fish and light chicken meals.

★★★★★

Tasty! A nice gentle spinachy flavor, with a hint of seaweed. Not as grassy as I expected.

mild and golden tasting. I'm a heathen so I put agave nectar in.

★★★★☆

Very good. Can be brewed rather easily, of course lower temps and quick brew times are the key, but some delicious umami can be had from this affordable tea. This to me has a bit more character than sencha premier, although not as bright or 'clean' tasting. Brewed in a similar style as gyokuro reveals this tea's delicious brothy, nutty, and slightly sweet flavor profile. multiple steeps are possible with care. Overall, I'd say its great for a daily sencha!

★★★☆☆

VERY grassy in smell, though milder in flavor. Not my favorite green by any means, but certainly worth a try if you're a fan of greens in general.

This is the perfect tea to start the day on a high note.

★★★★★

Very delicious! Everything I was expecting, and then some. Tastes especially well with a spoonful of sugar. Doesn't do well to oversteep it, though. Gets way too bitter.

★★★★☆

We bought this in an attempt to recreate Teavana's 'Empress of China' tea. By itself, it is very grassy, and of the ways one can prepare green tea for market, I am by far a Pi Lo Chun fan...however, this is a very good tea, and seems to work well in our endeavors.

I really like this tea! Very green and almost grassy tasting. I know that sounds weird, but try it. I do warn you not to over brew it however. It can get a bit bitter. And you can steep it a second time. The flavor isn't quite as strong but still good.

My favorite green tea thus far. Not too bitter, not too smoky, a very pure taste. I love the color, too: Unlike some green teas, this sencha actually brews into a very green drink.

Has a great green vegetable flavor, Just like a great Japanese green tea should.

The first unflavored green I really like! Has an alfalfa-like fragrance before brewing and a clean, herbaceous flavor when hot. Lovely!

i LOVE sencha. by far the best tea, in my opinion..such a fine taste :)

★★★★★

This is a delicious sencha brew - very grassy scent and taste, and leaves that sweet, creamy feel on the tongue afterwards. Definitely recommended for fans of Japanese green teas.

Overall I would have to say the tea is just ok. It was a little mild for my taste. Not a bad tea but I feel like I've had better from the other flavors adagio offers.

★★★★☆

This was really yummy. I'm a fan of Japanese green teas though. It was more mellow than I expected but still a very nice grassy flavor. Watch your temps and brew times! Can get bitter REAL easy.

First time trying japanese green, and while it was good, i prefer chinese

★★★★☆

This is a grassier green tea but very good if you like Japanese green teas. I liked it for when I am in the mood for grassy-green tea.

A nice, soft green that works as a daily morning tea.

★★★★★

This tea reminds me of nibbling on seaweed and other super greens. Since dark greens are one of my favorite flavors, this makes it an ideal, soothing cup for me. Can be a touch bitter in the afterbite, but is utterly delicious if you enjoy strong green flavors.

This was one of the first greens I tried, and had not found my taste for the grassiness and vegetal flavors. It was OK, but I gave away the remained of my sample to someone else, so I doubt I would ever buy it again.

★★★★★

Just like what I've had in Japanese restaurants, but a little smoother and cleaner-tasting, as per the description. A perfect sencha, a little bitter, and very refreshing. Good hot, warm, or cold. There's definitely a light seaweed quality to the taste, which I personally love, but it could be an acquired taste for some.

Very smooth, grassy flavor. I see why some may call it 'bitter', but to me that is part of what makes it taste so good.

Whenever I have a cup of Sencha Overture is when I am in the mood for a deep and complex green tea. Smooth and great to sip on and relax!

tastes like fish. disgusting and horrible. I don't think Japanese greens taste as good as their Chinese counter parts.

For the price, this is one of my favs...can have a bitter after taste if steeped to long, but the flavor is excellent!i personally like to mix with gunpowder tea and you get a rich, full flavor green tea that has that beautiful vegetable flavor with a bit of smokiness!!!

Has a bitter aftertaste that hits the back of your tongue and gets worse with each sip. Compared to the smooth and bitter-free sencha premier, this sencha clearly less refined but also less expensive. I'm glad I tried the sample so I could justify the expense of sencha premier, which is worth the higher price.

As a previous customer I purchased a sampler pack which contained Sencha Overture and it quickly became my favorite of the bunch. The flavor is exceptional for anyone who is a fan of green teas. It is very grassy with a faint bitterness, just the way I like it!

Really good green tea. Very nice green grassy flavor.

★★★★☆

I can't say too much about this one since I'm apparently not a plain green tea fan. It does however mix well with other flavors. So far I've tried raspberry and strawberry. Both were very good. It hid the taste and I still got the health benefit.

Great for a simple, basic green tea but I often want something with more character.

★★★★★

To me, this is the definition of green tea. An absolute classic with its pure grassy flavor. The perfect tea to mellow out with. If I had to drink only one green, this would be it! Superb!

This is one of my all time favorite green tea. Leafy and fresh, but careful not to oversteep otherwise it'll give off a burnt flavor

One of my all time favorites, it took some getting used to but the seaweed after-taste adds some uniqueness to the flavor.

I first got this tea as part of a 'samurai sampler' and fell in love with it, as it represented my own ideal for Japanese green tea. I really like the gyokuro as well, but I can't discern much difference between that top tea and this sencha, apart from the price tag. The sencha, to me, just has that perfect fresh über-green taste that fits well into any sort of tea time, whether ceremony or cup-on-the-run!

★★★★★

Very nice, full taste. Grassy in a good way. It's a type I like once a week or so.

My all time favorite green tea. I drink this every morning...first thing I do is brew up a Japanese pot and nurse it all morning. Outstanding!

A very tasty green tea. It has a nice semi-sweet mild flavor.

★★★★★

I find it hard to describe flavor and aroma in words, but when I have a cup of sencha overture I sit down savor it slowly and smile contentedly.

★★☆☆☆

this tea tasted pretty bad... it did not have the grassy/ veg taste i looking for. i lower the brew time to under a minute and lower the temperature and it was still bitter. i also use clean water that one buys at the supermarket. still no good. sorry but i do not recommend

I drink this tea as an everyday type green tea, it has a nice clean vegetable flavor.

This is your basic Japanese green tea that goes great at any time of the day. Care needs to be taken not to over steep it as it can become very bitter. The first steep should be 40 seconds, with each subsequent steep 20 seconds longer than the first. Tastes great in the summer iced!

Still looking for the perfect green tea for me but this was close. Very clean taste.

★★★★★

I love the smoothness of this tea. It's perfect for when you just get up in the morning.

★★★★☆

Good if you are very careful about water temp and steeping time. If you oversteep, or the water is too hot, it goes astringent very quickly.

Gyokuro and Sencha Premier are my two favorite green teas on Adagio. Sencha Overture isn't quite as good as Premier, but for the price it's a nice value.
