Sencha Premier Customer Reviews

Classic steamed green tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Crisp and clean cup, notes of freshly steamed edamame. Refreshing, sweet, and much more delicate than most Senchas. If you're new to Sencha (and the vibrant teas of Japan in general), this would be a great place to start.

Great sencha. If it wasn't so expensive I would be buying more of it.

★★★☆☆

Light, grassy and mild. Not much vegetal flavor or sweetness. very little umami. brew with care. too much astringency and not enough broth-y sweetness for my tastes. Too pricey for this light of a tea. not much character. up to 5 solid steeps but there is very little variation on flavors. 1st steep@10-20sec. 170degrees slightly flat taste.
2nd steep@10-20sec. 170 tastiest steep, slightly richer and sweet. grassy. astringent.
3rd @20sec. like the 1st but obviously diluted and lighter tasting.
4th @20sec 175degrees this one is tricky, could be bitter if not careful about time and temp at this point. this steep is almost always not as pleasant as the first 3.
5th... pretty much the same as 4th. just more watered down. sometimes I use 160 degree water and steep for about 45-50 seconds and it comes out lightly sweet, but its hard to produce these results consistently, even when all parameters are the same... go figure!

Earthy, grassy aroma. It becomes bitter easily though.

It tastes a lot like Matcha, which is nice since I like Matcha.

The freshness of this bright green tea reminds me of summer.

I'm still new to green tea, so I'm acquiring a taste for it. The dry tea smells wonderful/ kind of sweet. The steeped tea smells like veggies, like people have mentioned. I'm not a fan of veggies, but I'm drinking this for my health. Reminds me of dark leafy greens like spinach. If it tastes/smells like that, it's gotta be good for you!

A spectacular green. Rich without being overbearing, it almost has the delicacy of a white tea. Highly recommended!

★★★★☆

Medium to heavy body. Taste is apparent. however, as with most teas the longer you steep the stronger the taste becomes/fuller body it becomes - and becomes bitter because it is a pure green tea.

smooth mellow flavor - great tea for morning and afternoon breaks

The grass and hay notes were nice, but I have had much better sencha. I'm going to keep looking.

Really nice complex body! Do not over brew, or add more than a 1 cup measure.

This tea is the best balance of flavor of any I've tried. It is my absolute favorite green tea. While it carries grassy tones, there is nothing bitter about this blend. It is very delicate with a sweetness that compliments the green. I find this far superior to the Sencha Overture and well worth the extra cost.

This is an excellent tea when brewed properly - just under 2 minutes is best. However I don't taste much difference between this and the Sencha Overture, so considering the price I would stick with the less expensive option.

I might be biased because I love Japanese Green Teas but this one is good. It's has that nice buttery vegetable taste that I very much enjoy.

This is my first Japanese green tea, and I'm not sure what to think. It is definitely an interesting flavor, and I can't say that I don't like it. I find it to taste rather spinachy and even at times a bit skunky. If I take bigger sips though it becomes more of a floral taste. Let's see what a second infusion tastes like

Not bad, but this tea has a bit of a bitter taste to it.

It wasn't as fresh tasting as I remembered from an earlier tasting.

A nice green tea! The girl in the shop told me it is a Japanese Tea. It tastes good.

★★★★★

Really enjoy this tea. It is buttery and sweet. Great for drinking anytime of the day. I mixed this tea with the Pi lo chun and found it to be one of the best combinations of tea's I have tasted.

Used 2.5g in 6oz of 170 degree water and steeped for 2 minutes. If I had steeped any longer or used water that was any higher than 170 the resulting tea would have been bitter. I think I just narrowly avoided any bitterness. This was a great cup of green tea, with an incredible sweet-umami-vegetal finish that comes as a surprise, at least for me, after a somewhat lackluster beginning. This tea reminds me of a lite version of gyokuro. I really enjoyed Sencha Premier and I am definitely going to re-order it! I would not steeped for longer than 2 minutes however, or use water over 170 degrees unless you don't mind heavy bitterness/astringency!

This is a grassier green tea but very good if you like Japanese green teas. I ended up liking the Overture one a little better but I think it depends on the mood. They are both very good.

I thought this was a great tea. Slightly grassy, very mild flavor ... but very easy to mess up the steep. Keep the water temp low and steep no more than 2 min. Tastes great and can be re-brewed several times.

I really love this tea, the third time I have purchased it in fact. Great taste and great price!

★★★☆☆

I am not a fan of sencha. I guess it's somewhat of a poor mans Gyokuro, but it's got just a bit too much hobo aroma for my taste.

★★★★★

Outstanding smooth Japanese sencha. Slightly sweet with no overt bitterness that green teas typically exhibit. Has a grassy flavor that is rounded and not too pronounced, a good thing.

A very disciplined and refined green tea that brings to mind memories of fine japanese restaurants like Benihana. I wish it wasn't so pricey!

This is one of my favorites. Smooth, no bitterness, pleasant smell, and good sencha taste. I just wish the price was lower. It's less bitter than sencha overture. I've only tried a sample of overture. I may experiment with the variables more on it. Perhaps it's just picky.

This is a much sweeter tea than Sencha Overture. It works very well on its own or with light desserts.

Good quality green tea. Would drink more often if I didn't have other favorites. Very good quality, nice flavor similar to traditional greens. Price is good too.

Gyokuro and Sencha Premier are my two favorite green teas on Adagio. Of the two, the sencha is a little more vegetative tasting and the gyokuro is smokier.

Brews a dark green cup with a lot of flavor. Not grassy or flowery. Great to drink as is.

Maybe I just can't get into sencha, but I couldn't tell the difference between this and the sencha overture. They both taste a little soapy and a lot grassy. Not really my thing.

This is a great Japanese green tea, which admittedly is not my favorite style of tea. It has a wonderful pale green color when brewed, one of the hallmarks of any good sencha or gyokuro. In Adagio's case, I think the Sencha Premier is actually better than the Gyokuro, as the sencha seems to be more whole leaves and less broken pieces than the gyokuro. Gyokuro farmers will typically add in some 'tea dust' to enhance the mouthfeel of the tea, but Adagio's gyokuro seems to be a large proportion of broken pieces. I guess it's partly to be expected with such a fragile tea. Anyway, when buying the middle-size, this is identical in price to the gyokuro, however both are over $1 per 3 gram serving when buying at that middle size. For me, that's too much money for green tea and I generally will only spend that much for top-grade oolongs. Sencha Premier is still of a very high quality, for those who have an affinity for Japanese teas.

Green teas are a must for good health. This is a very good one.

★★★★★

In my search for a grassy tea, I came across this one and ordered a sample. It was grassy, with a hint of something floral. Not as strong as I would have liked, and slightly bitter, but I think that's because I may have steeped it a minute or so longer than the recommended time. Still a great green tea. Do not steep longer than 2 minutes, seriously.

super light tea. great for a drink when you don't want tons of flavors clashing with a snack or don't want to use any sweeteners.

★★★★☆

I absolutely love a good sencha. No matter what new blend of tea I try, I always seem to gravitate again to high quality green teas such as this one. This is your basic grassy, green tea taste but is all that I wanted and expected of this tea. I just wish the leaves weren't cut so fine.. when steeping in a mesh infuser the leaves tend to get stuck in the mesh which makes it harder to clean. But all considered it delivers on flavor, which really is most important.

It may just be me. I didn't like this at all. It was quite earthy.

In reality you won't get a full taste, or taste at all with just 1 teaspoon you'll need atleast 2. I'd recommend staying clear of this, also the taste isn't any different to normal Senchas. (Sample netweight 0.5oz/ 14g)1 teaspoon per cup.

A very strong and grassy flavour. Delicious, but not worth the extreme price unless you're going for a prestige thing. Worth a sample, at least.

Nice tea when I want a bit of a boost to help get me through work or a run.

★★★★☆

Really delicate tea, tastes great but I can't justify the cost as I had better premier Chinese teas that are less expensive (Dragon Well for example). Be careful with preparation, it's very easy to make it bitter. Less than 3 minutes for sure and not more than 180 degrees.

I brew this tea for a "special" cup of tea. I love the green tea served at good japanese restaurants, and this tea always reminds me of a good japanese restaurant. Grassy with a smooth finish.
