Not my favorite Japanese green tea (that is genmaicha), but I realy enjoy this kukicha from Adagio. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who isn't into green teas, or as a first green tea for someone, though - there's a strong vegetation-type flavor to this particular tea. I do think I prefer this one slightly more cold than hot. I never use cold-brewing, though, I hot brew and let it cool naturally. A solid green tea.

I bought this mostly to use in blends, but I like its complex play of flavors when consumed alone, as well. I think it's my current favorite just-green green tea, if that makes any sense.

This tea was surprisingly - and deliciously - savory! Not at all grassy in flavor like most greens. Definite undertone of roasted sesame to it, not a dessert tea unless pairing it with a cookie or scone. Great anytime, otherwise. Smooth and mellow the whole way around!

SO GOOD! A great way to get that delicious and delicate green tea taste without having to spend more on Sencha or Gyokuro. Great everyday drinker!

It took a moment for me to get into this tea. But once I did, I found it to be grassy, soft, and pleasant. It does need a bit of sweetness though.
★★★★★
Bright nutty flavor, a touch of sweetness, with a delicate mouthfeel.

Very grassy, not bad but probably won't come back to it.

This is one of my favorite green teas. It has a slightly sweet flavor. However, I tend to prefer strong flavored teas.

A light green tea with a subtle hint of toasted flavor. Great for a refreshing morning drink, especially in the summer.

First of all, if you do not like grassy Japanese teas, this might not be for you. It is definitely an acquired taste, and personally, I still do not really enjoy this tea hot.
However, I tried cold-brewing this tea overnight (about 12 hours) to see if it would taste different. It was wonderful. It still had that grassy, vegetal tone to it, but it was not overpowering. It was great as a plain iced green tea (nothing added and about 1.5 times the normal amount of tea leaves)!

I really enjoy this one. I love the the nutty notes at the end.

I was a little put off by the grass-like appearance, but when it brewed it had a nice light fragrance and a good taste.

Gotta say, I love the flavor that the stems impart. Kind of woody and herbal. Loving it.
★★★★☆
Heavily grassy, I wasn't expecting such a powerful plant taste. But it was like a spinach or grass extract. I was really turned away by this but I still drink it from time to time. I actually very much like it over white rice, it really adds flavor to an otherwise dull dish.

This tea is pretty light on the tea flavor, while still having a vegetal flavor.

Very light with a nutty flavour. Tastes wicked good when mixed with Hojicha. Overall, a great green tea!

Adagio is the best site for obtaining good quality Kukicha for a decent price. It is my favorite green tea, so in this, Adagio is a lifesaver.
Kukicha has a really playful flavor, it's bright and vivid and very green, without the heaviness of other Japanese greens. It can be somewhat grassy, but it blends well with other teas and flavors. This tea is a staple of mine, so I cannot suggest it enough. :)

Nice green taste, but not too strong. - highly recommended.

Not bad tasting, but not spectacular either. What I would call an average green tea, good for palate cleaning.

Really enjoyed this, I'd been wanting to try it for a while! Very nice fresh grassy flavor, not too bitter.

Fresh, vegetal, and buttery. Kind of reminds me of buttered popcorn in taste. A bit rich for me to drink on it's own, but I'll bet it lends an interesting characteristic to blends.

When I got the sample of this tea I opened it up and at first smell I thought it smelled like fresh cut grass! This was enjoyable so I figured I would love this tea. After steeping I was dissapointed, I was expecting the fresh cut grass aroma and a nice mild green. While the flavor was not bad I could not get past the aroma of the tea. The best way I can describe what it smells like to me is rotting grass. If I could get past what I find as a horrible smell I would probabably enjoy the flavor of this tea.

This is definitely not your normal green tea. I love kukicha tea and adagio delivers. Might be an acquired taste for some though, albeit an easy one. Aroma reminds me of nuts, grass and seaweed. Taste is nutty and smooth. Add to the fact that it is low in caffeine makes this a great nighty night tea.

One of my favorite greens. I like that it is unadulterated with flavorings.

slightly grassy, sweet and mellow. its nice not to see the stems be wasted when that can turn out to be the best part.

ooooh this is so, so good. Exactly what I want in a green--refreshing, sweet, with a great re-steep. I will definitely repurchase.

I am no green tea aficionado, so I find it difficult to judge it, but I do greatly enjoy this tea. I like how it can consistently brew multiple cups of tea from the same leaves throughout the day.

This was my first Japanese green tea. The idea of using twigs and stems rather than leaves sounded really interesting so I decided to get a sample. I'm impressed! Brewed at the proper temperature it seems to have an almost buttery scent, the taste is kind of nutty and vegetal, but keep in mind this isn't a strong tea at all, it is a very unique light green tea that goes down very smoothly. I'll definitely be buying this again.
I've been playing with brew times and I find that the first infusion comes out best at minutes, gradually adjusting for the next several infusions. Usually I can get a good 5 or 6 mugs out of these twigs!

Probably because I enjoy grassy flavor green teas, but this is absolutely my favorite green tea. It's an acquired flavor, so if you don't enjoy grassy teas, you probably will not like. I love the flavor and like to have my water heated around 200 d. Unless they change the recipe of this tea, I will continue to order this awesome tea by the large bag

A very nice grassy green. I love the color and smell of this tea. Kukicha will be a regular in my tea collection. If someone asks me to try green tea, I think I'd give them this tea because of its simple grassy flavor without all the complexities of many other green teas.

Great Green. I have been drinking it everyday since 2005. Unfortunately I may reconsider. The price from 20005 to 2010 was $19/lb. In 2011 and 2012 it increased to $24/lb. Now its $34/lb. Really? Seems like an absurd price rise.

I am a huge fan of very grassy, vegetabley tasting japanese green teas, but sadly all of the ones i like are very expensive. Kukicha is a great alternative to these premium japanese greens. It still has some of the grassy notes that I love, but is just a bit on the weak side to give it 5 stars. It is also surprisingly sweet. a solid tea at a very affordable price.

I like the grassy, crisp taste of the kukicha. It's a bit heavier than I was expecting from a green tea, but it's very nice.

So light! So creamy! So amazing! I always had my trouble getting into green tea and I usually find it to grassy and bitter but this one is just amazing. Balanced, smooth, full-mouthed without being too much. This is everything I ever wanted out of a cup of green tea. Very, very good.

It's sweet and buttery, and the smell is divine. I'm a fan.

Some may not care for this, but I absolutely love this tea. There is a strong 'grassy' flavor to this particular tea which I find very pleasing, especially since it is not so strong as to cover up a slightly astringent finish that cleanses the palate almost entirely. Also, doesn't seem to lose any depth on second steeping, which is rare.
★★★★☆
This tea definitely has some grassy flavor to it, as well as some more nutty, almost buttery, notes! I think the two balance each other out pretty well so neither is overwhelming. Very enjoyable, but I think I still prefer teas with a more grassy flavor!
