Hunan Gold Customer Reviews

The large twisted "yellow tea" leaves brew to a lovely golden yellow color. It has soft, airy notes and a dry, crisp, fruity character.

This is really great. It's a bit fruity, perhaps peachy.

I love the fruity, smooth and delicious taste.

This is an extremely light tea, slight smokiness and astringency. I don't detect any fruitiness. I expected more to be honest. I brewed it according to the recommended instructions, so maybe I'll experiment with it later at another temp.

Had never tried a yellow tea before this one and as soon as I tasted it in the store, I had to bring it home with me.

I like to drink this before bed. Yes, it has caffeine, but it's very soothing and light tasting.

★★★★★

Very smooth. None of the 'grassy' flavor that is typical to some other green teas.

This tea is aptly named. Everything about it is gold. A delightfully delicate melange of florals, tupelo honey, and honeydew melon round out to a very satisfying cup of tea. Fabulous afternoon pick me up tea. Would highly recommend even to those who are devoted Darjeeling drinkers as am I.

Excellent light green tea. Surprising. Smooth, sweet, delicious.

★★★★☆

Very, very mild green tea. Not too grassy or vegetal, with a flavor so mild it tastes more like a white tea than a green tea.

Definitely an interesting tea. The initial flavours reminds me of the sun tea my mom made when I was a kid -- every sip brings me back to those summer afternoons -- but there is a lot more complexity to this tea. I'd recommend this tea to anyone, but if like me you enjoy(ed) sun tea from a supermarket brand of black tea, you've got to give this one a try!

Thought I would give this a try. My favorite was the jasmine pearls originally but not after trying this.

★★★★★

I love this tea.Wonderful body smooth tea. i over steeped it and it still had a wonderful flavor.

I love this tea! I does have caffeine so I can't drink it too often, but I love it. This is one of my favorites. I reordered it recently

Great flavor - I picked this up after a tea tasting because I wanted to try a yellow tea, and this was a very interesting cup!

This tea is light, crisp, and slightly fruity and floral. A friend of mine who typically does not like green tea loves this one.

I highly endorse this tea! What's amazing about tea is the incredible range of flavors one can get from a single plant, and green tea offers an incredible variety. I had never had a Hunan tea before, nor had I even seen one. This is a tea of extremely high quality. Somewhat unusual for a green, you can steep it quite a while, and it doesn't get too bitter (in that way, it is similar to certain Chinese black teas, such as Yunan and Keemum). The flavor is extremely smooth with nice floral notes. Unique! I've never had green tea like this before, and I will definitely get it again. This price is also more than fair.

just a fantastic well balanced flavor, worth the cost. I'll have this as a relaxing afternoon tea especially good following a busy workday

Let me start by saying I'm learning to love green tea. In the past, I had never quite enjoyed green tea as I found the taste off-putting for reasons I couldn't quite put my finger on (too flowery? too grassy?). I first began introducing myself to green tea blends, and found cocomint green my gateway tea. From there, it was casablanca twist, and now a true green in hunan gold. I scoured Adagio long and hard for a basic, tasty introductory green tea, and I found it in hunan gold (thanks to other reviews). This green tea is DIVINE. It doesn't taste like the green teas I've had in the past. It's light but still distinctive, with a yummy aftertaste that reminds me a bit of some mild black teas I've had. It tastes great with some raw honey, and it starts my day off wonderfully. There is no floral or grassy taste at all. It doesn't smell as wonderfully fragrant as many blends, but I don't care too much about that. I wanted to like green tea for health benefits, and hunan gold serves my purposes perfectly. I will definitely continue to reorder.

Brews a rich golden color similar to a black tea. Beautiful fruity and rich but yet still light somehow. Very interesting and delicious!

I recently placed my first order with Adagio and of the four teas I tried, this was my favorite. It's a light but complex tea, perfect for the afternoon. To me it smells a bit like honey while it's steeping, but doesn't have a sweet taste on the palate.

Not a bad green tea, but not one of my favorites. It seems like a very light green, and doesn't have a flavor that stands out as anything special to me. I tend to prefer greens with more of a grassy flavor, so this isn't one I'd care to drink daily. I even tried different steeping times, and it didn't improve my opinion of the tea much.

I tried this tea with both a 30 second steep with multiple steepings and a 2 minute steep using 180 degree water but each time the flavor was too delicate for me. It didn't taste like much of anything at all to me. I didn't get any fruity or vegetal notes, but it wasn't bitter either. The liquor is very pale. The dried leaves are long and twisted and golden with a malty aroma.

This is a very light tea. If you are used to more robust teas this one may disappoint but if you give it a chance you'll see how the subtle flavors make this a really great tea.

★★★★★

Light flavor but still strong enough to get a feel for the taste. Would recommend.

★★★☆☆

This tea smells and (I'd imagine) tastes like fresh wood chips. It's smooth and I don't dislike it, but as with wood chips, it is a beautiful golden color and not my first choice to steep.

Be careful with this one, I burnt it pretty easily but it's great if you make it just right.

★★★★★

Superb! Light taste and smooth finish. I love the color of the tea after it has steeped. It looks like a yellow/gold. A very good green tea.

★★★★★

A light, smooth, golden tea with no bitterness when prepared with water at 100 degrees and steeped for 2 minutes. I don't have a kettle with a 100 degree setting, so I bring water to boil in my regular electric kettle, turn off the heat and let the water sit for 5 full minutes before pouring on the tea leaves.

delicate, sweet, light, and bright, with a unique gold color. I'll be buying this again.

★★★☆☆

a little subtle for me, although nice to experiment with different teas

★★★★★

This was very good and tasted just as described. It's lighter and more delicate than most green teas, more like a white tea. It's not something I would drink every day, but I don't regret buying a sample at all.

★★★★☆

I had never had gold tea before, but on the wonderful recommendation of Laura at Old Orchard (Skokie, IL), I gave it a try (without even sampling in the store). What a delight! It smelled more like a black tea, but this was like a smooth, yet light mix between green and white teas. Very nice!

★★★☆☆

A little too earthy for my taste. I like this type of tea to have a nuttier flavor.

★★★★★

To me a very light, fruity and fragile tasting cup. I steep the tea more than usual and it never gets bitter. I like this at the end of day to relax. I will have a strong English Breakfast early in the morning for more of a get up and go, but Hunan Gold is for cuddling with a soft pillow and a movie for me.

★★★☆☆

I thought this would be a great flavor based upon reviews, but it's not a favorite of mine. I'm blending it with other flavors, so it's OK - some may prefer it, I have other favorites.

★★★★★

Very good, mellow tea. Not as grassy as most green teas. For what it's worth, I don't think this tea re-brews well. The second cup is OK but not nearly as good as the first.

One of my staple go-to teas. Delicious, with a good balance between flavor and mouthfeel.

★★★★★

One of my all time favorites so far. I usually prefer oolong because of the flavor complexity, but this one is extremely interesting. It is delicate and sweet. Very floral. A lot of flavors all at once without being overpowering.

This tea was rather bland, unlike Yunnan Jig which is peppery/spicy.

I don't drink green tea much. I prefer oolongs and white teas. This is the best green I've tasted. It's sweet and I swear the second infusion is better than the first.
