Hunan Gold Customer Reviews

The large twisted "yellow tea" leaves brew to a lovely golden yellow color. It has soft, airy notes and a dry, crisp, fruity character.

★★★★★

Rich and velvety. I brew it in my brevell on the green tea setting.

★★★★★

These tea leaves are simply exquisite, tangled in an elegant calligraphy of brown and gold with a fragrance more like a fine oolong than a green tea. The clear topaz brew tastes of apricot, vanilla and brown sugar, with a very slight astringency and a finish of roasted apple. Naturally sweet, delicious alone, this tea also pairs well with a drop of milk and a touch of sugar and was every bit as good brewed (albeit 2 mins longer, so 5 mins) a second time. A real winner!

honestly, i bought this tea based off of the look of the leaves; fortunately it tastes as good as it looks.

★★★★★

The only tea we drink. A green tea that is robust and is very close to a black tea in flavor

★★★★☆

A very pleasant tea with a flavor that seems to be a cross between an earthy green tea and a rich white tea. The flavor held up very well every time it was re-steeped.

This tea is one of my favorite ones. It is very similar to the golden dragon tea that Teavana had, and its subtle sweetness is so great to have.

Super smooth and clean. It is slightly grapey, as is suggested. Still one of the best green teas in my opinion.

★★★★★

So glad I found this tea to replace the old teavana golden dragon.

★★★★★

Smooth & bright. This is one of my favorite lighter teas (I typically prefer strong black teas).

★★★★★

One of my absolute favorite teas from Adagio. I get it Everytime

This is what I drink when I feel like venturing out into my green or white tea collection. It's very flavorful with a sweet aroma. The tea leaves are a beautiful color. In terms of steeping, Hunan Gold is very forgiving.

First time with a yellow tea. Love the golden color, holds up well with multiple steepings.

While I have liked this tea in the past, it is just too highly oxidized for my palate.

★★★★★

teavana's golden dragon. A great tea. One of my top 5 favorites. Don't over drink it though or the taste goes bad like a fine wine. It is a nice treat, not a daily drinker

This is my first venture into yellow tea, and this is a good one. Mellow, slightly dry and astringent. tastes a bit like Darjeeling. A good buy.

As a Chinese, I've never try Hunan teas when I was in China. This tea makes me understand that there are some black tea in Hunan province and they are pretty good.

★★★★☆

This isn't a favorite, but it still a nice cuppa.

★★★★★

Love this tea. Strong flavor and a perfect pick-me up.

★★★★★

Very smooth tea, definitely more like a yellow tea than a green tea.

★★★★★

THIS. this tea is AMAZING. My favorite tea i have gotten from adagio. A+

★★★★★

Very light and a great flavor. It is a good counter action to the Chai's, or Chamomiles I love.

★★★★★

This is an interesting yellow colored tea with a nice sweet flavor.

★★★★★

Earthy, but mostly sweet. Produces a yellow liqour.

Nice, mellow flavor. Definitely hits the spot for the after dinner relaxation.

This green tea was middle of the road and I might explore something different.

★★★★☆

Somewhat subtle and very smooth flavor. One of if not my favorite tea. Hints of earthy with an unmistakable green tea like taste. Highly recommend.

Yellow teas are new to me, so I was very surprised by this one when what I expected was something closer to white teas (which I don't care for). The golden liquor smells like honey and is smooth and sweet with a stone fruit flavor that makes me think of peaches and apricots. A 1 minute steep yields a very delicate tea that is on par with white teas--too light for my taste. Doing a 2nd steep, I actually forgot about it and wound up letting it go for something like 5 minutes. It picks up a slight astringency, but much more prominent fruit flavor; going to make it like this from now on. Not sure if this would be a staple tea for me, but I can definitely see myself buying more at some point because it was delicious.

Hunan Gold is in a special category of green tea known as 'yellow tea'. But from what I could tell, it looked and tasted much like white tea. Like white, these leaves were slightly oxidized and also, like white, I had to steep them much longer than standard green tea in order to get some flavor out of them. And the flavor? Well, again, it tasted a lot like white tea; though perhaps with a bit more green tea astringency. However, unlike green tea, it wasn't the least bit grassy.
All in all, I found Hunan Gold to be an okay tea, but it's nothing special. If you like white tea, give it a try.

Amazing honeysuckle aroma! A wisp of earthiness keeps it grounded, but overall this is a sunny, uplifting tea.

I think I found my new favorite green tea. This has a nice fruity flavor and good mouthfeel. I think this is a very accessible tea for people who aren't into the really bitter greens. It has much much more flavor than the green pekoe (my previous daily green). This is one I'll always keep on hand.

I flash-brewed this tea to get the best flavor, using a little under a tablespoon for 6 ounces. This very much reminds me of a light darjeeling, though with the refreshing character of green tea instead of the bolder character of black tea. I purchased it looking for a tea without the typical 'grassy' flavor I generally dislike in greens, and it's everything I was hoping for. It's sweet, fruity, floral, and vegetal, but nice and mild.

This tea is wonderful! It's mellow with a slight astringency, and nice floral notes in the aroma. I consider Hunan Gold to be up there with Gyokuro and Silver Needle. Definitely going to be a staple in my tea cabinet!

I had to use a lot of tea in order to provide flavor. It was good, but this made it too expensive to buy again.

★★★★☆

I like Chinese greens from Adagio. Solid and yummy green with lots of flavor.

This is a very nice green tea, though I think it is most pleasing to drink while it is warm in the fall. I don't find it to be 'grassy' but my boyfriend did. If you prefer fruity green teas, this may not be for you. I liked it a lot!

Aromatic and buttery with really nice floral notes. I preferred this tea when made 'gongfu' in a gaiwan vs more western style brewing. This is a good intro yellow tea because it packs a bit more oomph than the ones from other regions.

I was surprised at the taste of hunan gold, it was a little bolder than I expected, but I am still thoroughly enjoying this tea.

This is a great tea, it is smooth and not overly grassy. I drink this all the time any time of day.

This tea is AMAZING! I think it is my new favorite. Like others are saying, it has a beautiful floral characteristic, but with a classic chinese pan-fired green tea (but excellent quality). Leaves a beautiful vegetal taste in the mouth with a very, very slight astringency.
