Hojicha Customer Reviews

Green tea from Japan that is rendered brown by roasting Bancha (a summer crop tea, harvested after Sencha) tea leaves. An Adagio customer favorite, with a toasty nutty flavor and slightly mesquite note. Earthy and warm quality, soothing finish.

Hojicha is one of my favorites and this one didn't dissapoint. A nice warm, toasty flavor that is perfect, especially for fall or winter. I definitely reccomend starting with a sample since this does not taste like a typical green tea

Lots of flavor from the roast and less caffeine because it's mostly steams. Great for after dinner

Uniquely nutty, mild taste for a green tea. Good choice for those who don't like the grassy quality of some greens.

Strong for a green tea but still lovely in flavor. Have to be careful not to oversteep though! I stick to 3 minutes if I can pay attention.

I bought a bunch of teas including this one. I really like it. It has grassy notes which are my favorite for a green tea. One my favorite list!

Mix between oolong and green tea. Bold and acquired taste, but delicious nonetheless.

This is an ok Hojicha. The flavor is slightly smokier than others I've tried, but it vanishes more quickly. I love Adagio teas, but when it comes to hojicha, Ippodo is unparalleled.

I thought I would like this more than I did. Its a very subtle flavor.

Green tea with a nutty flavor. Very relaxing to drink.

This is coming from someone who doesn't enjoy the light grassy flavor of green teas.

I can appreciate a good grean tea, but it's never my go-to choice. Hojicha takes away all the grassiness of regular green teas and replaces it with a wonderful nuttiness. I've been having Hojicha lattes with a dash of cinnimon and they have been amazing. I'm still experimenting and trying lots of teas, but this tea instantly became a staple in my cabinet.

I'm obsessed with this tea, it's roasty and delicious. This perfect comforting tea with very low caffeine so I can have it any time of the day. This may be my absolute favorite tea. Even if you don't like green tea, try this one!

I love the flavor of this tea, very earthy with a sweet aftertaste! Not a big fan of most green teas, but this one will be a regular purchase for me.

The toastiness reminds me a lot of genmai cha, but this one is definitely unique!

I love this Hojicha and it's my standard morning tea. It develops a nice aroma quickly and get's better if you let it seep forever. The taste is roasted and has some tannin but is both clearly not a regular green tea nor a tannin / roast monster. It's the best balance I have encountered in Hojicha but I also like them on the slight tannin side.

This tea has a very toasty-roasty flavor to it. It s definitely more earthy than grassy, and I wouldn t have known it s a green tea if Adagio didn t tell me. It s probably not for everyone, but it s only $2 for a sample! I highly recommend everyone at least try it, it s delicious
AND cheap!

I love the nutty flavour of this tea. It is one of the smoothest teas I have ever had. Even though it is a green tea, feel free to add sugar and cream to this cup.

This was too earthy to me. I would give this 2 stars if my Fiancée didn't like it as well. She doesn't love it but it is more drinkable to her than it is for myself.

A nice alternative from sencha tea. The nutty tones are never over bearing and the final brew is always refreshing without any bitter aftertaste.

Not for the faint of heart. This is a robust, earthy roasted green tea. I find I can use the leaves two or three times. I love it.

I like the earthy and vegetal qualities of this tea. A nice, basic green tea.

The smell reminded me of black tea and the taste was very woody. Doesnt remind me of any green tea I've ever had

Not really a fan of this one. It’s not bad, but I just don’t really like it. It’s a very earthy flavor with a solid green undertone. The roasted flavor is interesting with the green, I would just prefer something different.

Very earthy hay like flavored green. Not bad, just different. I think it would be nice In a blend.

I did like the toasty-ness of this tea but overall did not particularly enjoy it.

Earthy and woodsy flavor. This wouldn't be my go to tea but I could grow to enjoy this.

This is a very unique green tea and I wasn't expecting the flavor I got. It's a lot earthier than most greens, but makes for a nice change from the more standard flavors.

I've had blends with this before and liked those, it just seems to be an okay flavor it's it's alone. Don't mind it but not one I'll seek out alone.

Smoky, fermented tea that's a great alternative to black tea. Would be a great breakfast tea for cold, rainy fall mornings. Recommend brewing a bit longer than the recommended 2 minutes for a richer, deeper flavor.

A lovely savory green tea! The roasting brings out more of the seaweed/toasty flavors that green can sometimes have. I'm very happy without any sweetener in this one.

I definitely got a lot of the toastiness in the flavors. Not as refreshing as I like my green teas to be. An interesting adventure, but not one I’ll pick up, I think.

I was surprised by the dark color of this tea after only steeping for 2 min. There is a smokey, earthy vibe that I really enjoyed.

I've sampled this tea before. It's an interesting tea that really doesn't taste like green tea to me. More grainy than grassy, I think, but not in a bad way at all. I decided to drink it iced today, and am not disappointed in the least. In fact, I think I prefer it cold to hot.

This definitely leans more to the nuttier/toastier side of teas. Definitely a cozy tea I'd be interested in drinking again!

Toasty and tasty. If I were one of those little bespectacled cartoon mice who lives in the bottom of an enchanted tree this is the tea I'd brew over my tiny fireplace to reward myself for a hard day's work of sweeping the garden path with my tiny straw broom, or hauling porridge, or scolding owls, or whatever it is they do all day. Might need to think about that a little more. At any rate I highly recommend this tea.

Ugh another green tea. This one tastes like seaweed.

Toasty and delicious. Recommend for those looking for a green tea without the vegetal, oceanic flavor.

Too grassy for me. It is not overpowering. I did not enjoy the scent but tried a few sips anyway. For a green tea fan I guess this would be a mills flavored treat.

Wasn’t expecting this taste from a green tea. I, too, get a bit of seaweed taste. Pleasant and rather unique

A little too earthy for my tastes. I prefer spicy teas. I added cream and agave to make it more to my palate.

Lightly smokey and nutty (not as much as genmaicha, which I also adore) without that green grass taste in the usual sort of green tea. Adding this to my shopping list! 3 mins 180F

A woody, toasty flavor reminiscent of genmaicha, which I don’t love. I prefer floral and vegetal greens. Still a good tea, and I’ve had some excellent blends with this as the base.

★★★☆☆

A very bold flavor, it’s a nice tea but I don’t think I would purchase it. I prefer lighter tasting green tea

Smoky, but not too forward with it compared to other such teas. No lingering aftertaste. Good either unsweetened or slightly sweetened.

“This one’s hard to describe. The only thing I noticed was a strong toasted almond smell and flavor overpowering everything else. Being a home beer brewer, the smell comes close to that of spent grains leftover from the boiling process (wort.) Not a bad smell for beer, but not tea. I didn’t taste anything close to a green tea. Drinkable, but I think better left for blending. (2 mins @ 175F, 1/4 tsp sugar)“

The smell was intense, but the flavor was more mellow, reminded me a lot of mugicha, or barley tea taste. Nice and roasty tasting.
