Hojicha Customer Reviews

Green tea from Japan that is rendered brown by roasting Bancha (a summer crop tea, harvested after Sencha) tea leaves. An Adagio customer favorite, with a toasty nutty flavor and slightly mesquite note. Earthy and warm quality, soothing finish.

just what I expected and wanted from this tea! Good hot.

A good tea, but I would probably add something to this to bump up the flavor profile

This tea is more hearty than other green teas. It's comforting on a cold winter day. This is a tea I will take out of the leaves because it has a tendency to get strong, but the second steep I'll leave it in for longer. Outside of Longjing, it's becoming my favorite winter tea.

It's an okay green tea. It has a strong smoky flavor.

The tea is a great green tea and doesn't have the brightness you get in a lot of other green teas. While it smells rather grass like in the bag, once brewed you get a very wonderful smell that is hard to describe outside of stating that you can tell it was roasted (but not so much as to give a smoky scent or taste).

So delicious! Tastes a bit like light-sweetness caramel. If you're adventurous, add a bit of milk/cream/milk alternative (I'm partial to oat milk) to it and you're unlikely to regret it.

Clean and earthy taste. Very grounding cup of tea in the morning!

Now THIS is what I'm talking about. This may be the best green tea I have ever had. Earthy, caramelly, and just darn delicious.

If you like green tea but want something similar but different to change it up this is perfect. It has a slightly more earthy/roasted flavor but with the green tea base flavor. I really liked it to switch up my usual morning cup of Sencha. Do not over brew this tea!

This hojicha is very mild, I had to use more than when brewing other sellers' hojicha. About third of it is twigs and stems. I'd prefer leaf only hojicha. Other than that it's good.

It's not what most people think of when they think green tea. Its woodsy flavor, light brown color and roasted nutty aroma is delightful by itself. It can take a slighlty higher and slightly longer steeping temperature than recommended without turning bitter. You may want a finer strainer or strain twice to keep the pieces out of your cup.

Like all hojichas. Great ice cream flavor. Can brew longer than 2 minutes, haven't tried hotter.

Every time I brew this I remember how much I love it. It's full-bodied without being sharp or bitter, and has an earthy mellowness that's rich and comforting.

If you transformed a green tea into a black tea with an toasty/roasty flavor.

Absolute fav. This brand is a lot more flavorful than others. I was running low and saw that a physical tea store/franchise had it. What I got from them was mostly stems. Adagio hojicha is leaves and has way more flavor. Only buying from here now

I got into Hojicha after having some from a Japanese vendor. I think Adagio's version is pretty good. It is a great option for a lower-caffeine beverage for those who are into coffee but looking to reduce the caffeine. It pairs well with hazelnut or macadamia milk as well. It is roasted and nutty all on its own anyway.

I do think it doesn't have as rounded a body as the other hojicha I've had, but it's a really nice version that is less expensive (especially after the difference in shipping costs). I'd definitely recommend this as an 'every day' morning tea option.

ok. this is AMAZING. I love the rich, earthy flavor. I'm a tea novice, and i quite liked it. It leaves a good aftertaste, as well. It smells kind of fishy, but in a good way. 10/10 would buy again.

I bought this after really enjoying the Hojicha at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. The flavor is pleasantly toasty though perhaps missing that slightly sweet vegetal flavor I was looking for. Still enjoying the tea, though.

I tried hojicha years ago without knowing what it was and have been looking for it ever since. This is even better than what I remember! Definitely different for a green tea, but in a good way.

I wasn't expecting it to be more like an oolong, but it's still tasty.

Rich, smooth, green tea without the grassy tea taste. Nutty overtones that wonderfully enhance your taste experience without aftertaste but that of fresh and clean yum. Avery satisfying cuppa and one that I will return to often it is so good~

This green tea had a nice smooth taste with a nutty flavor at the end. Not as grassy as some green teas but very enjoyable and will adding this to my tea stock.

Like some other reviewers have mentioned, this does have a bit of a unpleasant smell, but that doesn t carry over into the taste at all! It s light, toasty, and has a lovely maple aftertaste. It s really unique and surprising, a nice middle ground between green and black teas. After getting a sample, I had to order a big bag because I enjoyed it so much!

I love genmaicha and was recommended to try hojicha for that same toasty flavor, and I m very glad I did! Definitely don t want to let this oversteep, it gets a little astringent.

I wanted to try this one after reading about it, but it ended up just meh. It was very grassy upon opening the package, but once brewed it didn’t impress. It was smooth and worked nicely with some milk and sugar, but was not very memorable to me.

Impressed is an understatement! What an earthy, toasty, nutty green tea. It is a perfectly warm drink, with no bitterness and a soothing quality. I can definitely see how it is roasted from the tea leaves and the amber color of the tea.. So beautiful to look at and even better tasting. It does have a clean finish as described. It is both surprisingly and unsurprisingly going to be a favorite.

This is one of the first Japanese green teas I have enjoyed, as it doesn't have any hint of grassiness. If you like roasted oolongs, give this one a try. It has that warm and comforting toasty aroma with a subtle and lightly sweet nutty flavor. It's also somewhat reminiscent of coffee since it is roasted, although with much less caffeine and a lighter body. I can get 3-4 infusions out of this one.

No complaints at all! It has woody, nutty, and roasted notes. Very smooth tea.

I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of this tea. It was earthy for a green tea, and it also had a somewhat burnt flavor to it, I m guessing because of the method of preparation used on the leaves. I realize that might not sound like a positive thing, but it s actually a new favorite for me, and I will definitely be ordering more!
