This tea has an interesting, almost 'burnt' flavor to it. I wasn't crazy about it in large amounts...I prefer a strong, fresh, 'green' green tea.
Green tea from Japan that is rendered brown by roasting Bancha (a summer crop tea, harvested after Sencha) tea leaves. An Adagio customer favorite, with a toasty nutty flavor and slightly mesquite note. Earthy and warm quality, soothing finish.

Very good roasted tea flavor. Strong and earthy. I wouldn't drink it everyday but its nice to have on a Saturday afternoon.
I love hojicha! I guess this isn't for everyone, but once you develop a tastebud for this type of taste, you'll really love it.
I used to call this 'smokey' but actually, it is a more 'roasted' flavor. Great when you don't want too much caffiene. People either love it or hate it. I LOVE IT!
This was okay. I don't know that I would order it again. I think I am more of a favorite of the white teas. Everybody has different tastes so it is worth trying out for yourself.
I love this tea.I ordered a sample. It's smooth with a smokey like favor.
Lovely smoky hints with nutty overtones. Definitely not your ordinary green tea...
This is a very respectable green tea, especially good for night-time.
This is a very interesting tea. Smokey but not overwhelmingly so. Very enjoyable on a winter evening.
Amazing. If you've ever had a smoke beer and marvelled at how it tasted like beer + campfire smoke, and liked it, you'll love this tea. It tastes exactly like green tea + campfire smoke. Strong flavor and the same char-broiled, carbon appeal as a good dark roast make this a great tea for recovering coffee drinkers.
This tea has a strong toasted flavor and aroma. I can see how some people could like it, but I did not. If you like the grassy taste of green tea, you may not like this one. Try a sample before buying a lot.
A wonderful Green Tea! Its taste truly reflects the way the leaves are charcoal roasted. Its flavor, though very distinct, has a smooth quality that that mingles wonderfully with this teas full bodied aroma.
Interesting flavor for a green! I have to admit, the roasting leaves description scared me a bit at first (I had visions of my first sniff of lapsang souchong::::shudder:::)... But this was really quite good! More along the lines of the genmai cha -- which I absolutely ADORE. I'll be ordering more when I ehxaust my sampling of greens:)
I always enjoy this tea more than I expect to. It smells strong but has a lighter flavor than you would think, and is oddly thirst-quenching. Nice.
This tea takes some getting used to. I like the smokey flavor, but the smell reminds me of wet leaves - if you can get past that, it may be a good tea for you.
This is fun, but not really the best of Japanese tea. It's good for a change or a conversation piece.
so delicious. i drink at least a pot of this a day. great with sugar, makes the tea taste like roasted chestnuts or something
i love the slightly smokey taste of this tea and will definitely be ordering more!
This is tea is great, I drink every day. For a green tea it has an unusual dark, nutty taste. It also has is low caffine, so great in the evening. Highly reccomended.
I didn't like this tea, it tasted like smoke. It made a great potpourri but I wouldn't drink it.
We didn't care for this one at all. Sorry. I suggest a sample tin first. There are better choices out there.
Alright but not the best.
Definitely an acquired taste - but worth acquiring. Not an everyday tea, but nice for the occasional change. It's quite smoky, with an envigorating effect.
A+ This is my favorite everyday tea. It is mild and healthy due to the green tean but has a lovely subtle roasted kick to it!

A unique tea, but not one I'd reorder. Tastes a little burnt.
My favorite tea. It's smoky flavor is soft and muted. Very very good.
After giving up coffee each morning, this tea filled a void wonderfully!
Is there a category better than GREAT? THIS is Chinese Restaurant tea! My first sip reminded me of a little Chinese restaurant I used to go to in high school - have never found a comparable tea, until now! This is the green I'll buy from now on!
A wonderful tea, I enjoyed it but I don't think I'll be buying more
