Just had my first pot of Gyokuro. Wow! Stunning traditional japanese green tea flavor. Smooth, sweet, green flavor that has no bitterness or harsh aftertaste. I like tea strong but the 2nd steeping is milder and just as good. The milder second steeping is a fantasy on ice. Definitely a new favorite for me.

Pleasing vegetal flavor, brightening astringency. Very good though I think, having tried several Gyokuro teas, that I prefer other types of green teas, both Japanese and Chinese. But certainly wouldn't turn it down if Santa wanted to leave some in exchange for the cookies! (hint, hint)

Buttery smooth! Has just the right amount of caffeine for the morning but not as much as coffee!

O Gyokuro, I could sing your praises from the rooftops! I absolutely LOVE this tea. fresh, green, light and with clean palate. This is my FAVORITE green tea, and I try to buy as much as I can in one go so it lasts me for a while. The cost is a little prohibitive, but not nearly as much as those OTHER tea sites, and Gyokuro is worth every penny. Great for multiple infusions. I get at least three.

delicious Japanese green tea, nice fresh flavor and aroma

★★★★☆

this was my first experience with gyokuro and I really enjoyed it. the aroma initially turned me off since I had a difficult time placing exactly what I was smelling. very complex mix of grassy/seaweed/almost broth like scent. very smooth taste though, particular on my 2nd attempt at 160 degrees as some folks had mentioned. will definitely order again once I've experienced some other teas.

one of my favorites, nice aroma and taste, always another cup

Not my thing, I guess. For people who like this, I'm sure its good. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

★★★★★

Jade Dew has always been a favorite. Thanks to the Frequent cup program I was able to get this at a great price. And, it's better than the bagged Jade Dew I usually get. Thanks, Adagio.

Beautiful green color and excellent smooth flavor. More expensive but definitely worth it. My top pick for green teas.

★★★★★

I bought just the sample and it was amazing. I could taste the green mountains of Japan.

★★★★☆

I'm undecided on this tea. It was good but didn't live up to some of the other reviews for me. I'll need to experiment a little to see if I can improve the taste with different steeping conditions. if not I'll probably stick to other teas going forward.

I love this tea. I always have, and I always will.

★★★★★

This is the most amazing green tea I've ever tasted. I host a Japanese flower arranging class at my home and like to serve tea. This one got rave reviews from all of us. I've always shied away from the grassiness of most Japanese green teas. This was just lovely!

Easily the best green tea I've had! Smooth, clean taste and overall 'soft' feel - truly excellent. I found that I couldn't set the cup down - just kept tasting it!

★★★★★

Fantastic green tea. Love the light but flavorful freshness of this tea. Brew shorter and cooler than suggested. Pour through leaves a second time if needed but don't let it steep fully again until your second cup. I love it!

Delicious! My favorite green tea that tastes sweet, smooth and buttery.

Yummy yummy in my tummy, wow this green tea is good. First of all, read the farmer's interview on the website. His name is agashima takehisa from asahina, japan and he's part of the Roots program with Adagio. It's fascinating to learn the background of the tea you're drinking. He also quotes an old saying which will stick with me for some time. 'If your throat is thirsty, drink sencha. If your heart is thirsty, drink Gyokuro' Well, my heart is definitely thirsty and this tea does help quench that thirst. It's very velvety and smooth, full of flavor. It has a very pleasant fresh grassy taste with a wonderful texture to it. It's hard to describe but I just love it. My favorite green tea so far. You can also get 3-4 good steeps from it without losing much flavor. You'll say goodbye to those generic Japanese green tea bags in your grocery store forever!

By far the best green tea I've ever tasted. Much better than Teavana's gyokuro and about 1/2 the price.

The last time I tried gyokuro I love it but this one had a bitter taste. Maybe I steeped it too long.

Really enjoyed this. I am a fan of seaweed-like teas and this is a darker version of most seaweed varieties I've had. I brew it for a shorter time than quoted (1 min) at same temp. Definitely worth the price as long as you take advantage of the additional infusions that are possible with one cup. Just remember to increase the temp with each new infusion!

This one is my favorite. It's very light and the loose tea can be reused 2/3 times. I like it with a little honey and lemon...it always makes me feel good!

prefer the really grassy green teas, not only for their unique flavour but also the antioxidant benefits...

this is a wonderful version of the gyokuro variety

Don't oversteep like the instructions on this page. It tastes better when you steep the tea for only like 40~45 seconds. If you steep for 2 minutes as the instruction says, you will get bitter tasting tea.

It took a couple of attempts at brewing to get more than colored water out of this tea, which I found a little frustrating in light of the gyokuro's price. But when it's brewed just right, it's a savory, rich-tasting dream. I just wish it were less finicky to prepare.

As a noob to green teas beyond the store bought bagged variety, I wanted something that would provide me all the nutrional benefits of a great green tea and also have a wonderful flavor. This tea does not dissapoint. I get about 5 cups out of 1 teaspoon, and they all are wonderful. Sometimes I go with honey, sometimes without, either way is delicious. I can't speak to other higher-end Japanese green teas, but I do enjoy this one and will order again.

I think this so far has been my second favorite green tea. Still prefer genmaicha though. Makes a decent hot brewed iced tea.

For a new tea drinker, the taste of this tea is a bit surprising, but brewing it at a lower temp for a shorter time seems to tone down the flavor enough for me to enjoy it.

Despite some negative reviews on this site, I decided to try this tea for myself. The leaves were long and smelled sweet and grassy. I found 170F for 1:00 to be an optimal preparation for my tastes. It was full flavored without being bitter, with a grassy-yellow color.

This green tea was light, but had a great flavor. I love this as an everyday tea. 8/10

This was absolutely delicious--probably one of my favorite greens from adagio. I do wish it were a little bit stronger, but it's got a nice light, soft taste that reminds me a little bit of matcha, actually, though definitely a bit more plant-y (but not grassy). Excellent straight, or even with a small bit of honey.

★★★★★

Reminds me of the smells of fresh cut alfalfa. A very smooth, vegetal green good for a second or third brew!

Adagio's japanese greens continually fall a little short for me. It's fine, but I haven't gotten a top notch cup from it yet. Grassy with a hint of mangoes but the mouthfeel is too light and I'm just not getting the depth of flavor I want. I'll be back if I figure out the right way to brew it, but for now, eh - won't order again.

A typical gyokuro tea, smooth flavour.
Aromatic buttered greens and seed weed.
The healthy benefits are great!

I love the taste of the tea, but the strong vegetal smell made me unable to enjoy until it had cooled. It was a classic japanese tea taste.

★☆☆☆☆

No matter how I brewed it this tea tasted bitter, sort of singed. I tried regular green tea temperature, I tried body temperature to 110ish as the grower described in the QandA here, I even tried the first steeping at room temp. Could not find any sweetness in this tea

★★★★★

I love this. It is definitely my favorite green tea. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. I don't understand who is determining the steeping times at Adagio. The first cup should take about a minute but the second cup doesn't need more than 30 seconds. The third cup can go up to a minute. I need to get at least 3 cups of green tea in order to feel like I got my money's worth.

Very good real japanese green tea flavor. Expected more leaf but still great brew.

★★★★★

Great earthiness with a slight brined flavor. It's a very delicate tea, so temp/time are crucial to a perfect steep.

I love this. Sometimes you just want a green tea that is really grassy, and this is that tea. It's actually a bit like kukicha but not quite as bright--very mellow and refreshing.

Not bad but not great. Mediocre but it was good to try the different varieties.

The 'greenest' green tea out there, except maybe for matcha.

Very good, light body. I absolutely love the Gyokuro's aroma. It's a bit heavy on first steep, but second and third are fantastic.

I've never had gyokuro before, so I can't compare it to another brand, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. The smell is a little grassy, as other commentators have noted, but the taste is smooth.
