Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

One of my favorite greens. Doesn't taste like dirt or grass. Yum!

It's just never going to be my fave. Feels grainy, almost on the tongue, and the flavor is grassy, which is exactly why I don't prefer greens.

★★☆☆☆

This is definitely not for me, way too reminiscent of a woodburner puffin into the room. I did enjoy watching the pearls unfold 😊

This tea is very good. It steeps to a golden hue and has a bold taste with just a hint of smokiness. I am not a green tea lover but I really like this. Perfect for morning. A great wake up and make your to-do list for the day! First steep 180 for 2 1/2 minutes as Jeff suggested and 180 for 2 minutes subsequent steeps.

Love this tea and watching it steep. The tiny little shiny green pellets explode 'pow' into long leaves as they unfurl. Steeped for 2mins @180°. A nice tame green tea with a smokey finish, just delish!

A dry and familiar earthy scent was detectable as I opened the packet. Inside were curled and rolled up pellets of dried green tea leaves.
A steep at 180°F for 3 minutes created a dark yellow-green olive colored tea.

Earthy and slightly smoky flavors predominated through each sip. A slight astringency with balanced and smooth mouthfeel. Nicely crisp tannins linger on the finish.

Overall, this is a great quality gunpowder tea.

I cold brewed this one. It has a great flavor with a little smokiness, and no harshness or grassiness.

I steeped this tea at 175°F for 2 minutes.
I have always enjoyed gunpowder tea and this one does not disappoint. The smokiness that combines with the almost-sweetness of the green tea has always been a favorite flavour for me. Gunpowder tea is one that tastes better each time I steep it, so I look forward to enjoying this tea all day!

Sipping along with the CommuniTEA: Subtle smokiness noticed on the dry ingredients and packet. Once steeped for about 2 mins at 185°F, I notice subtle grass and smoky notes from my cup. When I take a sip, I get a slightly smoked fish essence with a mouth drying green tea finish with lingering smokiness on the palate.

5 Nov 20 communiTEA review: Really cool scrunched-up bits of tea leaves appeared to be ready for action and ‘spode from my CommuniTEA packet this morning. So I let them out for some fun! 30 seconds extra was added to the first steep time to allow for awakening (unfurling) of the tea leaves.

When hot, mild and pleasant grassy flavors were noted along with a smooth buttery mouthfeel. When warm a peppery zing was noted on the tongue. Moderate grassy flavors continued on all the way to finish ... just the way I like my greens to be! A very mild smokiness was present in just the proper amounts to make this tea an excellent robust and energizing sip indeed! Second and third steep tastes were basically the same, but with a tiny bit of acceptable bitterness added. (2 mins 30 secs first steep/2 mins subsequent steeps @ 175°F, no sugar added)

What a smooth green tea! Love watching the leaves open up. This tea is good on it's own but see why it is included in so many blends. I look forward to drinking this again.

I like the hint of smokiness and smooth tea. I blend Gunpowder tea with peppermint to create 'Moroccan Mint' tea. On it's own 'good', but excellent tasting with mint flavor tea. You can blend many tea flavors with gunpower. I also love to mix Irish Breakfast and Gunpower. Totally yummy!

It's good, but not my cup of tea. The smokiness was a bit too overpowering for my tastes, but it'll be perfect for someone who enjoys that flavor profile.

Very typical green tea. tastes good, but is fairly boring if you are looking for something special.

★★★★★

Gunpowder might not be the most refined green tea but it is cheap and good. Love it.

i was afraid of this tea when i first learned of it. my brother warned me about how strong the flavor was and to never mix too much gunpowder with other tea blends... but i can now say hes just a coward! this is the best tea on the planet, hands down. it smells of a live campfire and tastes like the warmth of fall. the smokey flavor definitely isnt for everyone--every friend i make try this tea openly admits it takes getting used to--but its so unique! so tasty! flawless!

i drink this straight and also mix it with most other teas i own to give a smokey taste. 11/10.

This stuff is okay. Personally, Sleeping Dragon is similar but less smokey and more flavorful so I recommend that over this any day.

Very nice gunpowder tea, unlike any other green ive tried, almost smoky in a way. I’ll definitely be grabbing some more of this when I’m out!

A solid addition, I brew with herbal teas. Don't let this overbrew, it gets bitter easily

This is a very classic green tea with a slightly minty feeling punch. Can be astringent if you over infuse or use too hot of water. Not my favorite, but it's not bad. I think I like this cold as it feels more refreshing.

★★★★★

I think I might've found my favorite new green tea. It's perfect.

Not the biggest fan of green tea, but this was as expected and very drinkable

This is a solid, quality green tea. It is a bold green tea without being bitter with a slightly smoky finish. It is marvelous hot or cold or with a little soy milk.

I love seaweed in my sushi rolls, furikake, and seaweed sheets, but not in my tea. This definitely has a mild seaweed flavor to it. I have to blend it with something like Jasmine tea because I don't want to toss it out. Sorry Adagio, not a fan :-(

I LOVE this green tea. The balance of smokiness and green tea flavor are hard to beat. This is now my go to, unflavored green tea.

A deeply flavorful, solid, classic green tea blend. Neat little balls of tea leaves that unfurl as they steep. I love this tea straight-up, but it s also a great canvas to mix in some herbal blends, like mint or ginger.

Words simply can not describe my love for Gunpowder. From the small pellets that unravel with each new steep to the delicious, smokey aroma that just spills out of the mugs... I just wish Adagio sold a bigger bag! Though I’ll admit the green tea flavor is a little hard to detect at times, this is a tea I could rave about for hours.

A decent gunpowder, but sleeping dragon blows this out of the water.

This is a really good gunpowder tea. I was really shocked at just how good the tea taste. One thing I have learn about adagio teas is. When I try a tea I previously had from a different company. The Adagio wins in favor. Very happy I discovered your tea company. I no longer buy from T2 Tea

This is my everyday go to tea. Great tea flavor without a lot of the 'vegetable' flavors found in some green teas.

★★★★★

Remains as my favorite 'first tea in the morning! A favorite for hot and iced tea. Hearty green that has more of a bite to it. For the serious green tea enthusiast. Has the smokey edge but not too sharp. Always in my cabinet.
This is my favorite staple tea. Great in the morning - strong but smooth with a very pleasant after taste. I rarely drink morning coffee since discovering this tea. I brew it strong and hot to get my mornings off to a good start. Repeat brewings are perfect for a milder pitcher of iced tea.
Thank goodness it's back! I really miss it when it's not available. I'll stock up much better this year.
Continues to be my main tea. Strong or mild it has a haunting flavor that always calls me.
