Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

I don't even know what to say besides smoke and ash... I almost wanted to cough whenever I took a sip... strange feeling - I couldn't finish it and it left a dark film on the inside of my cup... If you want a cup of smoke and ash, then this would probably be good.

Very green. The first time I mistakenly brewed it too hot and it was very grassy and bitter. The second time I brewed it at a lower temperature and it was lovely.

★★★★☆

Tastes very good when mixed with the herbal peppermint tea.

★★★★★

Wonderful! I love the gunpowder tea. Slightly strong, with a full bodied flavor. Perfect on a cold winter night for some comfort.

★★★★★

I'm not a big fan of green teas but this was alot of fun. I mixed it with spearmint and that was very good. I love the little pellets.

★★★★★

I love the smokiness of this tea, it is very unique and nice!

★★★★★

This is absolutely wonderful! Just order the 6 ounces. Love it love it love it!

★★★★★

I lvoe this tea. I can almost describe the taste as 'Iron'. Its realy easy to oversteep though so be carefull

★★★★★

Delicious as long as it's not overbrewed. Very smooth.

★★★★★

The black teas I have tried are very full of flavor and so far I love them all. This is a great selection for hot tea.

★★★☆☆

Maybe it's just not my thing. A bit like algae. Better if you don't over-infuse. I haven't treid it with peppermint yet.

★★★★★

It has a great basic green tea flavor, it would be a good staple to have around.

★★★★☆

Alright I haven't tried this one plain, only mixed with peppermint and I really enjoy it, but I can see the ashtray thing others have mentioned. Great iced very refreshing with peppermint.

★★★☆☆

this was a bit strong for my taste. I thought the leaves looked beautiful

★★★★☆

Strange little green tea that has a nice, smoky flavor to it.

★★★★★

One of my favourite greens. It has a smokey flavour that is strong without being overpowering. Lives up to its name.

★★★☆☆

Just alright, I thought the tea was a bit too strong and dark despite brewing under the recommended time.

★★★★☆

While I'm not a huge fan of green teas, this one has a nice smoky accent. Good for someone unaccustomed to green teas.

★★☆☆☆

Tasted like an ashtray. I will defiantly not purchase this one again.

★★★★★

a great mixer with peppermint for a morocan tea flavor.

★★★★★

My grandpa got me hooked on gunpowder when i was a small child. This one is nice and smoky and doesn't taste 'green'.

★★★★★

This is probably my favorite tea from Adagio. It is great hot or cold.

★★☆☆☆

All I can say is... ASHTRAY! It had a cool appearance, but tasted pretty bad. It tasted just like drinking water poured from an ashtray.

★★★★★

I liked this one very much a little pungent has some bite to it. Has a more earthy taste than some of the others that I have tried.

★★★★★

One of my staples. One of my regular orders. Great on it's own or mixed with peppermint (my fav).

★★★★★

I tried this out as a sample. Its a great tea with a smoky flavor. I prefer it hot. Its a great evening tea for me. One thing I really liked about this tea was that it doesnt turn bitter easily. I tend to make a whole pot & sip while studying..often 3-4 hrs by the time I take the las t sips..this tea really retains the flavor without becoming tart or bitter. Highly recommend this as a gift tea as well.

5 out of 10. With a 1/2 teasp of the peppermint it is much better, 7 out of 10. More similar to a black, slight smoky taste. The smoky taste is more similar to irish breakfast rather than the very smoky english breakfast (which I didn't like). This so far has been my favorite green tea. I like black teas myself. It does leave about 4x the residue in your cup.

★★★★★

Gunpowder is my favorite green tea. It is extremely forgiving in regards to steeping time and mixes very well with peppermint.

★★★★☆

Nice solid gunpowder green, works well with the peppermint for morrocan mint iced tea.

★★★★☆

This tea is particularly fun to watch as the leaves unfurl. The tea itself is quite good but doesn't suit my taste as well as the fuller-bodied, smokier offerings.

★★★★☆

With a name like this I had to try it. I like how the leaves unfurl when they're infused. Nce smokey flavor.

★★★★★

This is a darker and more 'oolong-like' green tea. Wasn't sure I would like it as prefer the grassy green teas, but I was pleasantly surprised. Very nice change.

★★☆☆☆

Yuck, even blended with peppermint, I did NOT like this one.

★★★★★

i love this tea. it's so earthy and it's got a little bit of a smoky bite to the flavor. the green tea is mild and floats gently on the full-bodied flavor reminiscent of gunsmoke. awesome. be careful not to over-brew as it gets very bitter very quickly.

★★★★★

The best green tea I've ever head. This one is very strong, so not the choice for those who like more mild flavor. Make sure not to oversteep it, as I've found this one easily turns bitter.

★☆☆☆☆

I had high hopes for this tea, but was quite disappointed. Tasted a lot like someone had put out about about a dozen cigarettes in my tea. I imagined I smelled cigarette smoke for the rest of the day.

★★★★★

Wonderfully strong earthy flavor. Took a while to aquire the taste to it. Since then its been my morning wake up tea. Hint: use 1/2 teaspoon per cup.

★★★☆☆

I was intrigued by the smoky flavor, but ultimately found that this wasn't my 'cup of tea'! Ha! I wonder how many people have made that joke already.

★★★★☆

This was my introduction to green tea. Grassy with a hint of smoke. I like it as a change of pace from the blacks.

★★★★★

The smokey flavour is really spectacular and although I was alittle hesitant about buying it, I'm really glad I did.

★☆☆☆☆

I went into this cup ready for anything after smelling the tea itself first. But I tried and tried, and I barely made it through half a cup of this stuff. I just could not handle the smokey nature of this brew.

★★★★★

So far this has been my favorite green tea. The flavor and smell are phenomenal. Sweet, somewhat earthy, and lightly smoked.

★★★★★

One of the best values for green tea. This tea is exceptional when mixed with peppermint.

★★★☆☆

Not my cup of tea I've come to realize I like the flavored rooibos the best.

★★★★★

Since this was our favorite when we ordored the sampler it was hard not to order more. Wonderful, tasty, hot or iced.

★★☆☆☆

I did not like this tea, even when mixed with the peppermint was too smokey for me. Suppose that is just a taste I don't like.

★★★★★

Just a perfect tea, it's one of the best day to day drinking teas that adagio makes.

★★★★★

A great and full bodied tea. Perfect for those who are new to green teas.

★★★★☆

I am enjoyed the stronger taste of this tea. I will order this one again

★★★☆☆

I didn't care for this as I felt the flavor was overpowering. You may like this tea if you like a strong flavor.
