I've tried other gunpowder green teas before but this is by far my favorite.
A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

I've tried other gunpowder green teas before but this is by far my favorite.
Great gunpowder green tea. Always a reliable classic.
I wanted to try something different as I tend to favor the jasmine teas. The smokiness for me is mild and something I'll get again.
As someone just getting started with loose leaf teas, this was a nice, mild (as in I didn't experience any new/overpowering flavors)introduction to 'real' tea drinking. I also used slightly less than a teaspoon per cup, and I followed the temperature and time instructions exactly, this after having accidentally over-steeped a separate green tea to terrible results.
This is the green tea I return to over and over. I like the bolder taste of it, and the smokiness referenced in the main description is definitely there. Definitely have a very green, vegetable flavor to it as well. This works out great for me because I'm not really into flavored tea, and have a strong preference towards stronger flavors. This is usually an after lunch or night time tea for me - I like it when I want a warm drink to relax with. Also, I have to admit that watching it brew in the IngenuiTEA is just cool. Kind of fun to watch the leaves unfurl.
I must have had a bad batch of gunpowder a few years ago when I tried this. I'm glad I gave it a second chance because I was pleasantly surprised. Although it does get bitter VERY fast, even after two minutes, the tea is crisp and dry and has a very nice lingering green flavor. Not unlike steamed Japanese greens. To me the flavor is similar with a bit more smoky quality. Good for multiple infusions and nice hot or cold. To ease up on the bitterness, I'd brew this at 170 and not the recommended 180.
Smoky and faintly sulfur, really does taste like gunpowder smells (Haven't licked any guns lately so can't verify how gunpowder tastes) haven't tried to mix it with anything yet so don't know how that would go.
LOVE this stuff-- definitely a new favorite, especially when mixed with peppermint or spearmint.
This is definitely my favourite green tea here. I love the smoky flavour.
A nice green tea, distinctly Chinese in flavor and a good after-dinner tea
My first cup was just ok...but by increasing the amount of 'pellets' and then steeping just a bit longer, I found it to be a nice rich smoky cup, perfect for first thing in the morning.
great green tea.. even cold. when i measured i used a mesuring teaspoon. grassy, smokey and bright. i will buy this again!
Excellent tea for the price, yielding 3 solid infusions with great flavor. The leaves are mostly whole and large. There are a lot of broken bits and particulates that come out of the tightly rolled leaves, many of do not appear to be from the leaves themselves when examined under a microscope. I was looking for the smokey flavors described in other reviews and could not detect them. This will definitely be my go-to green tea for daily consumption.
This has a great green tea flavor that is somewhat smokey. Don't use too much. It's very dense. Be sure prepare it so its leaves can open fully and don't steep it more than 2 minutes at 180F or it will become harsh. I brew this tea 3 times, slightly more time with each brew .Try it with little sweetener!
This is one of my favorite green teas, and certainly one of the most economical. The little balls spread apart when they steep, and a small bit can brew an entire pot. It blends really well with other teas (like the green vanilla, and citron green), and holds up well on it's own with a traditional green tea flavor.
I have tried many gunpowder green teas and I must say that this is one of the best. Very forgiving in brewing and not bitter which I have found in others. Worth every penny. I will be ordering more!!
this tea tastes like the type they serve at my parents' favorite Chinese restaurant. It's very good and not bitter at all.
It's a gunpowder tea. It's exactly what you would expect. I nice green tea, but nothing too special.
I'm not really much for green teas, but this one is simply divine. It was good by itself, but I look forward to trying it in some blends in the future.
I happen to love gunpowder tea. The gunpowder tea at Adagio is good quality, as good as tea from China
I loved the large leaves and the smooth taste. Drank it with honey.
Enjoyable blend of green tea for my introduction to loose leaf tea. Very flavorful. Must be careful not to use too many leaves or tastes very bitter. Otherwise, very good.
Gunpowder's only purpose is as a filler for other teas. Definitely not good enough as a stand alone.
Some of the best gunpowder I have had. Brings a rich smokey flavor that goes great by itself, or mixed with some mint to make a Moroccan style mint tea.
This tea has everything I want in a green tea. I love the smokiness and earthiness, and plan to continue purchasing in the future. This tea is not for those who are looking for a light taste or who don't like green tea, as far as I can tell.
Love this tea - reminds me of the bitter earthy taste of yerba mate.
A very strong, almost oolong-tasting green tea. I have read that this is one of the most caffeinated of the greens.
This was the main ingredient in some of my favorite blends, like the Loki blend. It is also a great tea on its own. It's a grassy green, not too challenging or smoky. When dry, the leaves are curled up in little pellets.
This is a smooth tea that is great by itself or even better mixed with peppermint to make a mellow minty drink. It's also really bomb iced.
This was the first green tea I tried and it was good. Not as smokey tasting as I thought it would be.
This green tea has a more smoky taste than a grassy taste. Enjoyable, but I don't think it's going to be my favorite green tea.
To be honest, I didn't like this tea at all. My issue is I feel that I may not have brewed it properly in time and temperature. I won't discount Gunpowder until I try it a few times. Just may need to play with it some.
nice change of pace from my regular brew. Good as a sample.
A simply delicious green tea! I bought this specifically for my boyfriend, but I end up drinking it more often than he does!
Good tasting green tea. The name intimidated me, but it's a smooth tea with a lot of character. Always enjoy a few cups of Gunpowder tea.
This tea really fouled up a few fandom blends that I thought I might like. I decided to try it on its own to be sure I didn't like it. However, I have been brewing it all wrong. Two minutes at less-than-boiling. It's not bad, a very aromatic and herbal green flavor. Still not a number one favorite, but I might have to try those gunpowder-based blends again, just to be sure.
This tea does have a strong smokey, almost earthy flavor to it along with the greener taste. If you like that in a tea than you will love this one. This is not only my favorite green tea so far, but also just my favorite tea.
Smokey and that was about it. The best part is to see the leaves unfurl.
This is a good solid green tea - a little smokey, but not too much. I added a very small amount of spearmint and it really brought out the flavor. Probably not an every day tea for me, but I like it
Personally by itself I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I think a lot of it was because it was hot. Once cooled it tasted much better.
A bit too smoky for my taste, but green tea has never been my strong suit.
I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it. It's a good all-around green tea.
I love watching the pellets unfurl! As far as taste - it seems to be a fairly standard green tea. The smokiness give it a bit more interest but it's fairly subtle. Not overpoweringly smokey.
This is a good green tea for everyday drinking. This batch has the characteristic strong vegetal flavor, and I prefer to brew it at lower temperatures for a smooth aftertaste.
This tea was an unexpected suprise. I was not sure whether I would like it due to the smokey smell but it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It is very warming and soothing.
This tea was very interesting upon first taste. I was not entirely sure how I would like a smokey tea, but I actually enjoyed it. The smokiness adds an interesting element to the vegetal flavor of the green. I take mine with a bit of honey, because I am just a sweet-freak like that, which brought out some interesting notes in the cup. Not entirely sure if I'll order more beyond the sample, but I am definitely glad I tried it.
gunpowder is ok..not alot of flavor to me, but its still a great tea, and a great price!
Not an the greatest fan of green tea especially not without any flavors but this green tea just tastes excellent. It is also more affordable than the other available green teas.
I do not care for green tea. At all. that being said I love this tea. Lovely green flavor. With an ashy, smokey after taste. It almost reminds my of cigarette smoke, which I surprisingly found to be a good thing.
UPDATE*** if you brew this with the recommended amount 1 tsp. per cup) it tastes terrible. I downed it to one teaspoon per TWO cups and it was very good. Do not over-steep. I went a minute and a half and actually enjoy this a lot!
Old review---I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I just cannot seem to get this one right. I think the reviewer that put that it tasted like ashtray was spot on. Maybe it is just brewer error. I tried a lot less of it, and less time, more time, etc, but it is still 'offensive'.
