This is good as a stand alone tea, but I liked it best mixed with a bit of peppermint. Beware oversteeping, though, this is a tea that will turn VERY bitter.
A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

This is incredible! I've never really thought about a brew that could taste like this. It's different, it's amazing, and it's absolutely wonderful!
This is my new favorite green tea. It's not at all grassy or bitter. Wish it held up to multiple infusions better than it does, but even if all I get is 1 or out of each batch of leaves, I'll take it!
It's a fairly average green tea, after taste isn't impressive though. I do like how much you can re-steep it however.
classic green tea. Nice flavor, and an even better price!
I thought I would try this tea just because it looked interesting and I liked it in the Loki blend. However, I think this tea is suited better with another tea, and not by itself.
My coworker bought a bunch of the green teas, and after a fun day of tea-tasting, we decided we liked gunpowder and dragonwell the best. lthough I do love dragonwell and will continue to buy it, gunpowder is easier on the pocketbook. I do not think I will ever be without this tea.
This is truly a fantastic green tea, better than anything I've had out of a box. nother keeper, for sure.
I drink this tea while I'm at my friends house mostly. It's good, but not one of my favorites. It's very smokey and easy to over steep, so be careful with that. It has a strong flavor for green tea, so it's definitely good for a 'wake-me-up'.
This is probably our go to green tea. Not as grassy as some others and we will drink it straight or blend with mint and honey for Moroccan or Lemongrass and mint. Our guests who normally won't drink green tea will accept this.
very full-bodied green tea, one portion will last for several cups. Puts some hair on your chest!
decent gunpowder. I did mix it with spearmint for the Moroccan Mint tea (with good results) but also found I enjoyed blending gunpowder with the candy cane tea.
This tea makes for a great after dinner tea. I find this tea has a nice, smooth flavor. I am looking forward to my next cup!
You get a lot for the price. I only steep about 2/3 of recomended amount. Also, this gets bitter very quick so be careful on your temp and time. If you get it right this is a very good tea. This still has the green veg flavor but not so grassy. Hard to explain. Its just good. And very strong.
ugh this stuff is so good. i have a huge mug right now. i steeped 1/2 teaspoon in about two cups of water for 5 minutes.
I'm pretty inexperienced with green teas but I liked this one. Pretty standard green tea, IMO. I usually like adding a teaspoon of honey to a cup of green tea, but this one didn't need it. The honey didn't add much to it. Not something I'll make very often but I enjoyed it!
This is a strong, slightly bitter green tea. I was really prepared.to enjoy it, if only for the slight sea-weed taste that hit me after every taste. I'm a big green tea drinker, but this one just didn't do it for me. With my taste buds, it tasted a bit too much like rotting weeds.
Nice and earthy, with a slight hint of a burnt flavor, I've found the gunpowder tea to make a nicer sweet tea than hot tea. It's also a nice addition to add a hint of smokiness to any other tea/blend you drink - add a few 'pellets' to the rest and enjoy!
Great tea! The leaves are cool to watch open up. Sometimes, when I use too hot of water/still boiling, it makes it pretty astringent. When properly brewed, it's a great daily tea.
wonderful green tea, plenty bold and all around wonderful
I like this tea but its flavour really comes out on the second infusion (may just be my opinion). Definitely try it out a second time and see how it comes out for you.
This was my first green tea. It smelled delicious since I first opened the bag and now my tea tin smells heavenly. Pretty good tea, though I'm still more partial to black teas. Great cup of tea still, especially for the price!
Rather strong smokey flavor than I was expecting in a green tea. Very good though with mint and sugar.
This it the only green tea I have ordered and tried from Adagio. That being said, it makes a pretty good cup of tea as far as i can tell. I prefer oolongs and black teas, but if you like green tea I would definitely recommend trying this tea at least once!
I had gotten gunpowder from a different place and was blending it with something to make it tasty, but now I can't remember what... On it's own it's a little too grassy for my taste, but I love it in fruity blends.
An excellent tea by far! Definitely much different that other grassy teas I've had in the past. I found it to be more bold and leaves a great after taste. Definitely worth recommending.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a tea with a name like this, but it didn't suit my tastes at all. You have to be the kind of person who likes sour/tangy, not bitter.
Smoky start and vegetal finish. Excellent value for money.
The gunpowder green is an experience, both in appearance and taste. The taste is good, strong and with a slight kick, and watching the tightly-balled leaves bloom outward is just as fun as drinking it.
I'm new to green tea, and it took me a while to get this tea where I wanted it: strongly steeped with a small amount of honey. I will be trying more greens and updating my review!
A good green tea that mixes well with peppermint.
This is a tricky green tea - very easy to overbrew. It's not bad when I want something different from my preferred sencha-type greens, but it has a very distinct, almost seaweed-like flavor. I recommend brewing just under 3 minutes. any longer and the taste is too sharp.
What a delightful tea this is! Refreshing and quite crisp this batch came days ago. A great tea all around and something to quench thirst in summer!
I really enjoy this tea. It is good just by itself, no sugar or anything.
Fantastic for the price! Perfect to follow a meal with
Wow a definite favorite! A great way to get into green tea and a great way to stay with it too! A fantastic value considering three steepings make three strong cups.
This is OK if you really like the taste of green tea - but it's not as smooth as some of them.
This tea has the smooth smokiness you have been looking for. It has a all the qualities of a green without being overbearing. A fine choice when it comes to selecting a green tea. I recommend giving it a try.
very tasty green tea for the price, has a good subtle flavor.
This tea was a little too bitter for me, might be better if apricot or something light is added to it.
A decent introduction to green tea. Slightly more earthy than chlorophylly.
Temperamental yet very easy to drink. I enjoyed this tea more after a few steeps.
I've tried it once so far. I think I might like it after a second try, but it wasn't a very memorable tea.
Earthy flavor. Dark taste. Not as unique of a taste but much different then the other greens I have been drinking.
One of the best green teas I have ever drank. It has a very subtle smokey flavor with sweet undertones.
This is one of my favorite teas I've tried. Try it with honey -- the sweetness balances well with the tea's smokiness -- but it's great with sugar and spearmint, too. I was disappointed when my stock ran out and I'm definitely ordering more as soon as I can.
This is the first green tea I've really liked! To be fair, I don't know if I've ever had a loose-leaf (i.e., non-grocery store quality bagged) green tea before so this gunpowder probably has an unfair advantage. The leaves of this one are dark rolled in little balls similar to other favorite teas of mine like black dragon pearl and Yunnan noir. it seems like balled teas tend to all have rich, woody flavors.
That being said, this is a strong, smoky, brothy tea with a definite dark vegetal taste--not the thin, bright, grassy or citrus of some green teas. The finish is not astringent at all, even when you're a lazy usually-black-tea-drinker like me and brew it with boiling water. Two steepings hold up very well.
I love making ochazuke (leftover rice 'soup' with savory toppings and green tea broth) with this tea, as it takes savory and sour flavors very well. I also sometimes dry the twice-steeped leaves with a bit of salt in a pan and make tea 'chips' out of them. A weirdly tasty snack, and great crumbled over rice.
This is a nice, strong green tea, a complete 180 from the mild ones I usually drink! I enjoyed it, especially cold brewed.
A very traditional tasting green tea with a bit of a smoky bite to it. Definitely one of my favorites!
This has to be my favourite tea. I can't get enough.
