I love how beautifully gunpowder blooms in a French press. The tiny pellets just blossom into this gorgeous unearthly mass of tea leaves.
The flavour is assertive. green teas in my opinion tend to lean more mild sometimes to the point of wondering if I'm drinking tea or water, but not with the gunpowder. I wouldn't go more than 3 minutes on it, however, as longer brewing times tends to make it bitter.
This tea is for those of you who like strong teas. I can't drink coffee but I like the strength of coffee so this tea is a fabulous alternative. A little goes a long way and it still keeps its strength. I like mixing it with jasmine or grapefruit teas.
It tastes exactly like in the descriptions: smoky flavor and a vegetal after taste. Good as an iced tea with mint to drink on a hot summer day for a refreshing treat. The smoky flavor is rather strong and I would prefer it a bit less strong.

Unbrewed leaves tight and bright. This gunpowder starts out vegetal and ends up peppery with a touch of smoke in the back of the throat. Great caffeine kick as well! Possibly the best gunpowder tea I've ever had. I'm just not normally the biggest fan.

I love it! It's my second favorite green, right after Sleeping Dragon. I love my greens smoky, strong, and with very little grassy flavor (which is why I prefer Chinese greens to Japanese greens), so Gunpowder is perfect. I drink it straight up with no sweetener. I find that sweetener really, really takes away from the amazingness of this tea.
Great everyday tea and economical. I usually mix in a few Fujian rain leaves on the second brewing.
This tea is really inferior in quality comparing to other gunpowder brand I tried recently. The color and taste is awful. Disappointed, I will no longer buy it from adagio.

This tea a very green aroma, almost like mustard greens and alfalfa. The taste of this tea is the same. It feels like its more of a savory tea than a sweet tea. It's not overpowering and isn't quite a light tea.
This tea is powerful and calming. It is true to its name: careful not to over-steep. I could easily get two or three steeps out of it. I love this green tea. So flavorful and satisfying.
Very basic, very good green tea. I have not tried another green to compare it too, besides jasmine infused greens, but if you are looking for a cheap tasty green, gunpowder gets the job done

This is one of my favorite teas! It is a lovely, crisp flavor and not overpowering at all. It's a very pleasant deviation from my regular green tea. I absolutely love it, and I will buy in bulk next time! A staple for sure.
The temp and time can be tweaked to taste. Brewed strong, it makes a great tasting and surprisingly refreshing tea with plenty of caffeine. If I sip on my 1 liter thermos through-out my day it keep me focused and productive, yet is so easy on the lips and the stomach that it never gives me the jitters, the crash, or the other downsides of coffee. This Tea is a staple of healthy energy. <3
This one is sweet, very lightly smoky, with a smooth fruity aftertaste. It's also visually satisfying, watching the leaves unfurl.
Strong, robust, and somewhat unforgiving - sometimes I get a crisp vegetal flavor, sometimes it's overwhelmingly smoky. I tend to drink it mostly by pairing it with spearmint for a true Moroccan mint blend.
Loved this green tea, nice rich flavor. Oddly enough this tea is not as much 'green' as it is light brown when it finishes steeping.
It didn't really taste like anything. I've had boxed bagged tea with a stronger flavor.
You really can't go wrong with gunpowder--it doesn't take much to make a strong cup, it's a hearty green, and great in blends!
Those who appreciate a bolder, smoky flavor in a tea will definitely enjoy this. The aftertaste is smooth and fading. This is the green tea for black tea drinkers. In comparison to Sleeping dragon (a closely related tea) it is less complex, lacking strong vegetable tone, but it definitely has a smoother aftertaste.
Wow. I received this in my order today and just brewed myself a pot. I love it. I am actually drinking this with (get this) no sugar! I always put sugar in my tea, but I find I really enjoy the flavor of this one just as it is. A touch of smokiness with an earth quality. Not grassy. Just the faintest hint of sweetness. Very enjoyable. It puts me in mind of Japanese flavors I used to enjoy when I lived over that way. I used my Breville Automatic Teamaker to prepare this.

It's a pretty standard gunpowder tea. Better than most, perhaps, but if you've had it before there's not really a lot to say. It's a very reliable day-to-day tea.
A good enough gunpowder but compared to other greens, not my favorite. No matter how I brew gunpowder it's pretty bitter.
Classic gunpowder. Slightly darker taste than a typical green tea with a hint of smokiness and very mild astringency. Don't expect a bright, clean tasting green with this one. A nice change of pace from the types of teas I typically drink.

I'm more of a black tea guy, but I'm trying to get into more green teas. I'm glad I went for the gunpowder first! It has a pleasant, lighter taste and isn't overpoweringly grassy tasting. Plus, it looks cool! :)
This is my second time trying gunpowder and I enjoyed it so much more! It is the best gunpowder I've ever had. It's just smokey enough but not overpowering and just a little vegetal. One of my favorites when my stomach can't handle a black tea.
this tea is great.has a little bite to it if you over steep it. a great value for your money. hardly any caffeine after effects
On its own, this tea is definitely an acquired taste. It's hearty and vegetal and smoky, and can almost be overpowering. I made the mistake of using too much the first time I steeped it. the leaves are huge when they unfurl and the taste is really strong if you use too much. I cut it with spearmint though, and get something really refreshing.
When I want something that is stronger than my genmai, this really does a great job. The smokey undertones make this tea

This is a fantastic green tea with a mild smokey flavour. If steeped too long, too hot, or with too many leaves, the tea can easily become too strong or burnt-tasting.
It's really soothing, and much stronger than Sleeping Dragon, but just as good. It pairs rather nicely with rooibos jasmine as well.

Not surprisingly one of my very favorite green teas. I admit I was intimidated by all the 'smoky' reviews, but I'm glad I tried it. There is a smoky aftertaste, but it isn't the punch in the face I was expecting. The overall flavor is mild and refreshing and is great both hot and cold. I like taking a chilled bottle of this to work in the morning.

This is a very strong green tea, with some bite to it, and a hint of smoky. Definitely not a subtle variety. this one has backbone.
At first I was really put off by this tea, not being a huge green tea drinker-- it smelled like a horse barn to me. My first cup had a little honey and I still wasn't a fan. However, once I added a little milk, this becomes creamy and amazing. The smell still puts me off so I keep a lid on my cup, haha, but it's amazing and really growing on me the more I drink it!
Not really my favorite tea, but not the worst I've tried. The flavor is true to its name.
