Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

★★★★★

Great green tea. I can definitely taste the smokey aspects with only a short brew. It continues to taste good after three infusions.

Definitely one of my favorite teas on the website, very simple and delicious green tea, I recently got some spearmint tea to mix in and they actually complement each other really well.

★★★★★

How can you go wrong with this staple? Pure, unadulterated, green tea.

★★★★★

nice smokey character. very affordable. a great value.

★★★★★

This tea is great on it's own but we like it best mixed with some peppermint tea.

★★★★★

This tea mixed with spearmint created a wonderful version of morroccan mint

★★★★☆

Gunpowder is a staple. This is an important tea to have for daily use, or emergency use when you have something better around. Although this is not the fable sweet fruit of the tea bud, this is a traditional and robust green tea that you always need to have around. It lasts and its great for any kind of use, and I am DEFINITELY a fan of mixing with Spearmint to make Moroccan Mint .)

Best green tea around. Perfect blend of smokey and vegetal tones. Nice and smooth, goes great any time of day. All around the best tea out there.

★★★☆☆

The 'smokey' after taste everyone mentioned seemed very chemical like and bitter. Maybe I'll play with the brewing temps and times.

★★★★☆

This is a wonderful green tea. I've tried this before and enjoyed it immensely. This batch seems to be extra smokey in scent and flavor and I really enjoy it. It doesn't need any sweetener or other additions.

Like the other green teas, this one is a bit weak. I think rather than following the 1 teaspoon to 8 ounces of water ratio, I'll have to up this one to 1.5 teaspoons. I was hoping it'd be stronger, as it has a stronger scent than the other green teas. The scent of this one is pretty great. Herbal and a bit smokey, which I really liked. The taste on its own (a bit weak, since I followed the instructions) was pretty good, but the flavors were really brought out by a tiny touch of (locust blossom) honey. Just like all other green teas I've tried from Adagio, a tiny bit of light-coloured honey works wonders for it. Definitely my favorite non-blended green.

A great, comforting green tea. Smooth, a tiny bit smoky. A very manly tea. Feels like I'm wrapped up in my husband's sweatshirt!

★★★★★

A little of this tea goes a long way. It is great with sugar and mint.

★★★★★

One of the best green teas and my personal favorite so far! Use a small amount dont over brew it, its full of deliciousness and smoky/seaweed sort of flavor. As others have stated the pellets open up so use a small amount. It goes down very smooth! Its got a good amount of caffeine, highly recommended! I drink it at least 3 times a day!

★★★★★

Smoky and non-vegetal, this is a really nice green tea. I'm wondering what flavors it would pair well with.

★★★★★

Husband is a big fan of green tea, and he loves this one. It's a little less expensive per cup than a lot of the ones on here, so it's a good go-to tea when he just wants a little something. He did oversteep it the first time because he was afraid it would be too light, and found it too smoky when made that way. When he made it according to directions, however, he declared it delicious.

★★★★★

I get through so much of this stuff. As a regular oolong/black drinker, Gunpowder has enough flavor, but also is light enough that you can steep it through the (work) day.

★★★★★

Great green tea. Ordered multiple times.

★★★☆☆

Not my favorite: didn't have the hearty color or flavor I want (I'm more of an Assam drinker).

★★★★☆

Had a bad batch (some rocks - tons of sticks). Emailed adagio and was sent a replacement bag overnight. Awesome customer service. Love this tea and will keep ordering it was just bummed about the rocks :)

★★★☆☆

does have a powdery taste, not feel. Some may like it, I do not.

★★★★★

Probably one of the best teas I've ever tasted. I was never a green tea person until I tried this tea and I love it

This tea is refreshing, soothing to the stomach and clean tasting. It mixed very well with spearmint, as another reviewer had suggested. Love it. Will definitely reorder this one.

I received my 24oz gunpowder tea in the middle of October. I have ordered this in the past and have always been satisfied. However, this batch falls way short of the gunpowder I've become accustomed.

I am very disappointed and out $32.75.

★★☆☆☆

I am not a big fan of the more smoky flavor to this tea.

★★★☆☆

I used to order the Gunpowder tea on a regular basis several years ago. It was my favorite green tea. After trying again recently it hasn't tasted the same, so I wonder if the supplier changed or what happened.

★★★★☆

An excellent every day tea with a nice smokey flavor. Resembles sleeping dragon.

★★★★★

Gunpowder green tea is now my favorite tea type. Much stronger and bolder than any other green tea I've had!

I didn't like the flavor of this at all at first. It has a very rich, somewhat smoky flavor, and after I'd had one cup I seriously doubted that I would ever have another. But a few days later I gave it a shot, and to my surprise I liked it much more. I've been drinking it ever since. It's never going to be my favorite green tea, but it's good once you acquire the taste.

Exactly what I would expect from a high quality green tea. There is a slight hint of smokiness (as one might expect from this type of tea), which I found pleasant. It

This is a great green tea variety. It has a strong, smokey flavor,so if you're not a big fan of green tea you should go with something lighter.

★★★★★

I love the taste! it has a smoky flavour with a lot of depth!

★★★★★

Upon opening the bag for the first time, I was reminded of the first gunpowder I drank. And then some. The aroma is of green tea with a slightly smoky aspect. I involuntarily exclaimed when I opened the bag.
Brewing this tea was like all of the best things about fall and winter with the aroma of the best gunpowder green I've ever had. It was teasing me as I waited.
Upon tasting, it did not let me down at all. The aroma remained consistent, and the taste matched it well. It's a very solid green tea, and if you like good things, you ought to have some.

I've already had a liter of it today, and I don't know that I'll stop.

It's a good tea for the price. Good every day tea. I bought it to mix with peppermint for a Moroccan Mint blend. It's fine.

I wasn't super fond of this tea on first drink--it was a bit like most greens I had and rather unremarkable. Upon drinking some more I've noticed that it's definitely a higher quality of tea, and that it doesn't have some of the unpleasant aftertaste that a lot of other greens do. I added some honey to it, as well, so that certainly helped, but I generally prefer my teas with a little more... personality to them, I suppose. This is great for someone who likes straight teas, but I think I'll like it much better in a blend (maybe with some of that foxtrot I bought!).

★★★★☆

Good green tea and it is very conveniently shaped which makes it very easy to portion.

★★★★★

Nice veg/smokey flavor when brewed. Looks neat when it unfurls.

★★★☆☆

It is good for iced tea, again I don't want it brewed strong. Less is better.

★★★★★

A standard green tea that I find is to my liking. Good to blend with herbs, or by itself. Inexpensive and cost-effective.

★★★★★

earth, nutty, smoky great and simple with an amazing smooth taste will be on my list with it comes time to get some more

★★★★☆

A very good green tea to drink in the morning and feel a burst of energy, especially because I need to cut back on my black tea consumption. I plan on reordering this when I run out of other green teas. Strong aroma, vivid color, quite the photogenic tea.

★★★★☆

A hearty green tea with just a tiny taste of smokiness. Works well with multiple infusions. A 'must try' if you like green tea.

This is really good gunpowder... very smokey. Try adding peppermint to it, it's awesome!

★★★★★

Great green tea! If you like the flavor of powdered matcha tea but haven't tried it in a 'real' tea, this is the taste. Don't let it steep too long though or it will taste particularly bitter. I tend to let my tea steep a little longer for a more potent flavor, but it didn't work as well with this one.

★★★☆☆

Not a bad green tea, but seems to have a bit weaker taste compared to a Jasmine or Sencha.

★★★★★

Actually love this stuff, it's dense and easy to handle, but the leaves uncurl almost immediately in water on the first steeping. There is definitely a smokey taste to this tea and I've grown to like that quite a bit.

It's also quite cheap, even the sample packet was 30g.

Not the taste I had imagined, but quite a nice green tea nonetheless.

★★★★★

I usually am not a huge fan of green tea because I like a stronger flavor, but I LOVE gunpowder tea. Definitely a heavier flavor than other green teas, although still lighter than the black teas that I like to drink. It's just the right amount of smokey flavor, and resteeps multiple times without losing any character. I love watching it unfurl!

★★★★★

Strong, bold taste. This Gunpowder delivers. Awesome taste.
