Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

I love gunpowder. This is my favorite green tea. Delightful, smokey taste, and I love how the leaves unfurl during the brew. Fun to watch, wonderful to drink, cheap to buy.

★★★☆☆

I steeped for 2 minutes and it tastes smokey and slightly bitter. It's not horrible but I don't really enjoy the taste.

★★★★★

One of my favorite green teas, the flavor is nice and strong and lasts for MANY rebrewings. I like to drink this one throughout the afternoon to keep my mind alert.

If you like a classic green tea, this one won't disappoint you - very good quality and flavor.

★★★★★

This tea is a great tea no matter what time of the day. It is just something that relaxes you and taste great!

★★★★☆

This is actually a very smooth tea, at least I think so. It was great to mix with spearmint and have a nice Morrocan Mint tea. It's a very smooth tea without the harsh grainy taste you can get with some other green teas.

★★★☆☆

I wanted to like green tea. I gave it the old college try. This stuff smells like singed lawn clippings, but not in a bad way. Maybe I'm scalding it, I don't know. I heat my water in a pot that has two settings: 'boiling,' and 'not boiling yet.' Maybe it takes more sophistication than I can muster to make this tea taste more than underwhelming. Oh well, back to black tea I go.

This tea is delicious, one of my favorite green teas!

★★★★★

This has a classic green tea tastes and definitely amazes others when it is steeped.

★★★★☆

By itself this tea is pretty good. I personally prefer it mixed with some spearmint to offset the bitterness this tea can have.

★★★★★

My all time favorite green tea! This is an awesome full-leaf tea. When the leaves open up, they are huge!

★★★★★

I absolutely love this tea! It tastes great. My husband loves this tea as well.

★★★★☆

Adagio's gunpowder green tea is good, although it's not necessarily my favorite of their green teas.

★★★★★

This tea is awesome! I love drinking it with dark chocolate!

I don't know much about green tea. Usually I'll just drink a minty green tea over ice during the warmer months and stick with strong coffee or black tea as a hot beverage during the colder months, but this tea surprised me with its smoky/spicy flavor, which was strong enough that I wasn't bored and didn't need to add anything to it.

★★★★★

This is really nice. It has that smoky green taste you want from a gunpowder. I originally bought this to try and blend, but I also really love it on it's own. Great for people who like black teas but want to try a green.

★★★★★

Just a solid green, make sure your water isn't too hot though its pretty sensitive.

★★★★★

Gunpowder is very subtle and delicious. I highly recommend it.

★★★★☆

The initial smokiness was a little off-putting but it smoothed out and adds a very pleasant roundness to the flavor. Very unique and interesting.

★★★★★

Love this go to tea. I mix it 1:1 with the casablanca twist for an excellent before work tea.

★★★★★

For years I wrongly assumed gunpowder would taste like fire and wood. While it still tastes earthy, I realize now how wrong I was. I love this tea though- if it's oversteeped it has a bit of a spicy kick, but otherwise it's a wonderful green tea that's certainly easy to handle (large leaves = easy cleanup!). I definitely recommend it.

★★★★★

I love this green tea. It would rank in the top 3 of my favorite green teas.

★★★★☆

This green tea has a very smooth taste. I typically combine 2 tsp with 1 tsp Spearmint (in a 16 oz ingenuiTEA infuser).

Love the smoothe slightly sweet flavor. Not bitter at all like some other green teas that I've tried.

★★★★★

The perfect green tea. Just delightful if you are looking for a simple, original green tea light with delicate flavors.

This gunpowder is very fresh, very milky in flavor, and lasts for quite a while. I've purchased gunpowder teas from different Asian supermarkets but this one is just as good, if not better than the ones I've purchased there. Will be buying again.

★★★★☆

Very light flavor. Definitely smoky notes, not quite as bold or sweet of a flavor as I'm accustomed to.

★★★★★

One of the best green teas I've ever had. Brews clean and mild, does not bitter easily.

★★★★☆

I like to use this one as a base to add caffeine free herbal teas to. Great green tea

★★★★★

Great looking gunpowder representative. has the shiny, darker green characteristics you want in a gunpowder. Taste is bold and holds up to multiple infusions very well.

★★★☆☆

Got this for my brother who loves green tea, but hadn't tried gunpowder on it's own before. He liked it just fine, but didn't appear to be overly enthused. The smokey taste was what he liked the best I believe.

★★★★★

I like this green tea, it's simple yet full of body and smooth flavor. Not bitter at all when brewed at a lower temp.

Wonderful smoky green tea flavor, not very earthy or grassy though, so keep that in mind if you prefer that type of green tea flavor.

My husband literally drinks this tea everyday. He fell in love with it at first taste five years ago. He says it has a wonderful rich, smokey flavor.

Great flavor and a great price. A few stems/branches mixed in the tea

★★★★★

I am rather new to loose leaf tea, but gunpowder tea has to be by far my favorite. I love the flavor and the shape as well.

Green tea has been my tea of choice for as long as I can remember, as it is the first tea my parents allowed me to drink as a kid. This tea is amazing. Loved it on the first steep and just got better on the second and third. This is my go to, everyday tea. I found steeping in a little cooler water is safer then hotter.

★★★★★

I really liked the gunpowder green tea, it was a simply flavored green tea that I feel anyone newer to green teas could enjoy. Will be purchasing again

★★★★★

This tea is light and smoky, but not overpowering. It's even good for multiple steeps and doesn't taste bitter with oversteeping. An excellent green tea.

★★★★☆

Standard green tea taste. Nice and mellow but unexceptional

Most people know about gunpowder so I will just say that this one does not disappoint. Not to mention it is great value for money. If I did a blindfolded taste test I think gunpowder would be the easiest to pick out.

This tea is a component of some of my favorite blends so I had to try it straight. I can see why they use it. It has a nice, grassy but somehow smoky taste that is really enjoyable. One of my favorite green teas.

★★★★★

I just love green tea and the leaves are so beautiful and gives this tea a special feeling. Seems like such high quality.

★★★★★

Really good tea! Highly recomended to anyone! Good to re-steep as well!

★★★★☆

Good green taste, not overpowering, one of my favorite green teas from Adagio. I reorder this regularly, it is a bit hard on my stomach at times...

★★★★★

Bad ass green. Love this blend! A must try if you like greens.

★★★★★

Probably my favorite Green Tea offered by Adagio. Nice rich smoky flavor but not too overbearing.
