I have purchased gunpowder from you before. The recent order came and I noticed the tea is not in balls like it use to be. One of the things about this tea is how tight it is rolled. Given that it still tastes great.
A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

This has become my favorite green tea. It has a strong, yet subtle earthy flavor and I recommend it to anyone looking for a basic green tea to begin with.
Refreshing and would be good blended with spearmint, but on its own it doesn't have the full body of other gunpowder green I've tried.
A full flavored green tea, not too light. Definitely recommend it.
It's a good gunpowder. This is a more flavorful green tea than most. If you are interested in trying green tea for the first time, this would be a good pick, because it is an easy transition into the style.
Gunpowder is really the only green tea that I enjoy drinking. It has a strong enough flavor, and does not seem to scorch as easily as most other green teas.
My first big green tea purchase. Very enjoyable for a newbie.
I'm working my way toward more robust green teas. I like the gunpowder for being a bit stronger without tasting too much of seaweed.
This is a fantastic standby. It may not be the most premium green tea available but it has great, strong flavor and it smells wonderful. This is a perfect choice for your every morning cup.
Ok, this was a lot stronger that I had anticipated. I have it in one of my other blends and it's fabulous, but just by itself it is waayy too strong. It is nice if you mix it with another tea to give it some kick, but I wouldn't do it with a light tea. It would have to be either another green tea or black tea.
Gunpowder green is a favorite of mine, and this is an excellent version.
I love gunpowder. It is my go to green tea. Perfect for mixing with matcha
This is my go-to green tea. It's one I drink daily for weeks at a time.
A great cup of green tea. Has an earthy taste. I prefer it straight, nothing added.
Like it a lot drink it in the mornings and after dinner.
Love this tea. have it frequently
The short version: I'll be buying this again. Interestingly astringent without veering either into overpowering or bland.
My favorite green tea! A good novice and introductory level green tea. Flavor is nutty and not to vegetal. Awesome stuff!!!
A good green tea. More flavor than many of the green teas I have tried before.
It was exactly what I wanted. Gunpowder green is my go to green tea.
Good, basic green tea with a nice smoky quality to it. It's a good tea to start with if you're new to loose leaf.
I'm a big fan of bolder flavors, so I've never been a huge green tea person, since I'm used to green teas that are fairly light on the palate. This green, however, is something different. The flavor is dark, earthy, slightly smoky, and absolutely wonderful! This one was added to the 'regulars' list after only two cups.
My favorite gunpowder green tea. I purchased this to blend Moroccan Mint tea and have not been disappointed. Adagio always delivers the highest quality tea at the best price. To make the best Moroccan Mint tea or to just enjoy some great green tea, go with this!
This tea is rather bland. The bitterness does not bother me. It is the lack of aftertaste that disappoints me. Great green tea normally have an aroma coming from the back of the throat after swallowing. Kind of like a sweet aftertaste. This one has none.
Yum! I really like this tea, and for the price, it can't really be beat. This is a well balanced tea that can be enjoyed thought the day, hot or iced. Upon opening the bag, you are greeted with a very fresh, almost sweet grassy aroma, with just the right amount of smokiness. The liquor is excellent with the same qualities as above, as well as lending a buttery sweetness, with a hint of malt. I like to brew this tea with water just below boiling, for 3 to 5 minutes.
Best of the Best. Rich Smooth Flavor. I brew my tea very strong and this is by far a staple in my collection. Excellent flavor, excellent Aroma.
I prefer this over Davidsons Organic Gunpowder. I feel there were less sticks/roots here.
I was hesitant to try this because Adagio's description said it had a 'hint of smokiness.' The one other tea I've tried that was described as smoky was a blend that included Lapsang Souchong, and I hated it to the point where I gave the rest of my sample tin away. But I tried and loved a blend that had Gunpowder in it, so I ignored my misgivings and bought a sample of this.
It was a mistake. Not as big a mistake as buying a sample of Lapsang Souchong would be, but still a mistake. I'm able to stomach Gunpowder tea if I drink it as quickly as I can while it's still hot. Once it cools, however, the smokiness (which, to me, tastes a bit like bacon) becomes more apparent, and the flavor starts to make my stomach rebel.
The look and taste of this tea has changed since I first purchased it years ago. It used to be tightly wound, smooth pellets with a strong smoky flavor. The new incarnation still has some of the smokiness although nowhere nearly as strong. Still, it is a good, economical everyday tea.
I've always loved green tea and this is perfect! Great flavor
My new go-to green tea. Classic and simple, this tea has nice grassy notes that have a full yet smooth mouthfeel. Other green teas I have tried are too floral and light.
Its gunpowder tea. It delivers in that. Its cheap and good.
I wasn't particularly fond of this green tea- I found it somewhat bitter, compared to my normal preference (sencha).
My favorite tea right now. The smokiness is great, and there's enough caffeine to help me stay alert without giving me the nausea that coffee has been giving me.
After trying this I figured I just didn't like gunpowder teas. That was until I tried a few different brands and realized it was just this particular tea I disliked. Extreme bitterness and almost chemical taste.
We both drink this tea daily. We like it hot, but if there is some left, we put it in the frig and drink cold
This is a classic green tea. There is something about its simple yet beautiful flavor that really draws you in.
Enjoyed a lot. Very smooth yet flavorful and with a nice aroma in the cup. Definitely will order more.
Not to bad. not my favorite nice tea for a change. i think it could grow on a person.
This is my favorite green tea out of all of the ones I have tried. Although I frequently over-brew it with too hot water, when I brew it right it tastes great. Even when I over-brew it, it still tastes better than plain green tea.
A particularly mellow version of green gunpowder tea, not bitter even when left to steep too long (!)
I was hesitant about this one. Perhaps the name. :) But it's actually got a moderately strong but pleasant taste with what I might call deep high notes that linger nicely, and is a good change from my other green teas. UPDATE: This tea is growing on me. It might even turn into a 'great' one of these days. SECOND UPDATE: It just hit great for me. Now one of my favorite teas. Helps when you brew it right, and then let it sit a couple of minutes before drinking.
very good and solid choice... this is one of those to have as a go to staple
Definitely not a beginner's cup of tea. Pun fully intended. . . But I enjoyed it however my last batch was bitter and the leaves broke apart. Like any tea you gamble with what you pick. It's bitter but I've discovered wonderful for Chai Tea Latte's and smoothies. The bold flavor still stands out even with the added ingredients.
Great for morning tea to wake up. Strong flavor, but not to much.
Reordered after sampling the first time. Really like the flavor.
One of my all time favorites! I love the look, smell, and taste of this tea. This tea has just a touch of smokiness but not overpowering at all. A tea I will keep buying for life.
I'm used to drinking the higher end greens, such as gyrokuro or sencha. I didnt expect much after trying dragonwell. So sampling this I didnt think that I would enjoy this either, but surprise!!! Before brewing this tea has a nice strong vegetal and or grassy scent. Initial taste is grassy and full bodied, followed by a nice smoke finish. I look forward to enjoying this tea from now on, and am very pleased that its much more cost efficient!
Much better than other gunpowder green teas I've had. I'm glad I bought the 4oz bag.
A slightly smoky and earthy tea, strong metallic flavor
I didn't like this too much the first time- it wasn't bad, just not impressive, but when I opened my tea ball I saw that the balls had not had room to unfurl all the way, even though I thought they had, so when I made it again I steeped it on the stove and strained the tea into my teapot. Much better! This time, the flavour was smooth and fresh, and I could get the occasional earthiness of the leaves. based on this second steeping, I would order this tea again. So give your teas room to unfurl.
This has become my staple go to Green Tea. Affordable and has a solid flavor. I save the Phoenix Jasmine pearls for the special occasions. .)
