Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

This is a great tea if you enjoy green tea taste is soft yet flavorful

★★★★☆

I got this one after having it in a blend. I like to have it in the mornings sometimes I mix other teas with it.

★★★★★

I love the aroma and fresh taste of this excellent green tea. Great tea at a great price!

★★☆☆☆

I do not like this tea. It may just be because it's just green tea, but I have to mix it with spearmint to drink it.

★★★★★

I didn't think I would like this tea as much as I actually did. The scent was somewhat off-putting, but it tastes delicious.

★★★★☆

I'm normally not a green tea drinker, but I like the earthy flavor of this tea.

★★★★★

Gunpowder is great. I already had a 16oz tin of the spearmint tea as well, so I have a separate tin mixed of the pair. I enjoy this as my post-lunch afternoon tea at work.

My first experience with green tea. Solid flavor, steeps twice.

This is a very strong vegetal green tea, but not unpleasant. I don't taste anything smokey in this tea (especially compared to undeniably smokey lapsang souchong and mate teas), but it's undeniably bold and smooth compared to other greens. If you have any interest in green teas, this is a staple for your cupboard, and a personal favorite of mine. (The unique name and the experience of watching the rolled leaves unfurl doesn't hurt either.)

In general, this is a good tea. It has the flavor notes I expect in a green. I like it for an occasional change of pace. It isn't my favorite green tea, but is is worth having in my pantry

★★★★☆

It was a fairly typical green tea to me. I like it enough but I thought it was going to be a bit smokier for some reason.

★★★★☆

A nice basic green tea for a good price. Tastes just like I expected it would.

★★★★★

Smoky rather than grassy, I would recommend this tea to anyone who says they don't like the taste of green tea.

This makes a great morning tea. It's just a little smoky, and with decent caffeine.

★★★★☆

It has a very subtle strong taste which makes it a great morning tea

★★★★☆

Far and away my favorite green tea. Smoky, not grassy.

★★★☆☆

Good basic green tea for everyday. Would buy again.

★★★★★

LOVE this tea. i can definitely see it become my go-to green tea... smokey, earthy and energizing without making me jittery like coffee does.

LOVED this tea. I bought a sample and now I'm ordering a big batch. Love the smokey flavor.

★★★★★

Light but flavorful tea. More enjoyable than other green teas I've tried.

At one time this was my favorite tea but as I have continued to explore teas I have fond a few I lie better. I still enjoy gunpowder tea and I really like gunpowder with a dash of peppermint when I have a sore throat.

UPDATE: I think I had just grown tired of gunpowder. Now, after not having it for a while, it is back to being one of my favorites. Besides being great on its own, it goes great with peppermint, spearmint, ginger and is great as an iced tea.

★★★★☆

All around good green tea, has a bit of that bitter/earthy flavors of some green teas, which I do like. If you're looking for a milder version of this, check out Sleeping Dragon.

★★★★★

Great tea, I don't find it to be full bodied but great taste and aroma.

★★★★★

This is one of my favorite green teas. I love the smokey flavor. It's really good with mint too. You can get 2-3 uses per serving too.

I think this gunpowder tea is a good mid range green tea to keep in your tea pantry. It's robust, grassy and hearty. It's also a good tea to mix with spearing for Moroccan mint tea. This is a great daily tea and can be re-steeped at east once. Give it about 3 minutes so it doesn't become too bitter. Give this gunpowder a try for a good staple green tea.

★★★★★

One of my favorite green teas around. The taste and texture is solid.

★★★★☆

This tea is good for when you want a unique change. More robust and smoky, the flavor is a lot less subtle compared to a lot of tea.

Also I enjoy telling people that I drink Gunpowder the look of confusion and disbelief on their faces is funny.

I really enjoy gunpowder tea. Although you must be careful about the steeping time or it will become bitter

★★★★☆

A very smooth and mild green tea. It doesn't have an overpowering taste. It is very similar to Sleeping Dragon tea.

★★★★★

My favorite green tea so far. Very versatile - it is great both iced and hot.

★★★★★

An absolute delight. Gunpowder and spearmint together is how I start every morning.

★★★★☆

An exceptionally robust green tea. Grassy and vegetal, but in a different way than most greens. if a Sencha were a soft, manicured lawn, Gunpowder is an acre of grazing land, tall grass mingled with thistle, the scent of cattle and last night's campfire wafting on the breeze. I would say that the flavor and aroma have more in common with robust Yerba Mates like Canarias or Amanda than with the other green teas I have experienced. I like it quite a lot, but must concede that fans of smoother teas may find it overbearing.

★★★☆☆

This tea was a it too bitter and strong for me, so I make it a bit lighter.

★★★★☆

I love to mix gunpowder with spearmint for a delightful 'Green Moroccan Mint' blend that can't be beat after a heavy meal!

★★★★★

Perfect traditional green tea. Simple but exceptionally tasty.

★★★★★

My favorite green tea. It has a nice smokey flavor compared to a lot of others.

★★★★★

Really good flavor. I love this green tea. I recommend it.

I ordered some of this tea on a whim, not sure how I'd like it. I never cared much for the grassiness in matcha and other green teas, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found this tea isn't grassy at all. It's since become one of my go-to teas.

★★★★★

I love this tea! It has such a smooth, clean taste. I'm always a little wary of green tea at first and worried if it will taste 'right,' but this one set me right at ease. I will order this again.

★★★★☆

This is a great green tea. It's not too bitter or strong, and has a hint of smokiness.

★★★★★

Fantastic. Interesting, easy drinking cup after cup. Some great dim sum tea.

★★★★★

This is a great green tea. It's got a very slight, smoky flavor, but in the end it's still a green tea. Great by itself or even with honey.

★★★★★

Very bold and tasty tea. Great quality for the price

★★★☆☆

Very bitter green tea, not really my usual speed for greens. It's not bad, but I have to toss a good deal of honey and cream in it to drink.

★★★★☆

Tastes dark, fresh, healthy, smoky, subtle, and there's even a honey flavor in there. I'm impressed by how quickly the 'gunpowder' balls unfurled and filled up my teapot -- only took two minutes. I found that this tasted best when I let it cool to lukewarm rather than drinking it hot.

★★★★★

Solid green tea with a robust flavor, classic flavor.

★★★★☆

My ' go to' for everyday drinking. Smooth in both flavor and texture, mellow enough to drink almost constantly. strong enough to let you know what you're drinking. Lends itself perfectly to being my base-line for green beverage.

★★★★★

Great flavor, with a hint of something extra. Has a defined flavor that I can directly point out.

★★★★★

good gunpowder tea. For serious, that's how I feel about it. Is that enough characters?
