Gunpowder green tea from Zhejiang province is a truly distinctive tea, both in appearance and flavor. The smoky flavor was way too strong for me. I tried brewing it at a lower temperature and using less than the recommended heaping teaspoon, which helped only slightly. There was also a slight bitterness, which I found unpleasant.

Ok 20 mins is.crazy I know but I forgot about it anyway I thought it was perfect at 20 mins strong enough not too strong nice plain green tea.

Gunpowder teas taste best when water is boiled and then cooled to 190 degrees. Steep for up to two minutes. It mixes well with Jasmine flowers or mint. My preference is to take it easy on any additions in order to let the smokey green flavor come through.

I order this in bulk because my wife adores it for iced green tea. Hence the longer brew time. Some people might find that all a waste of such a good tea, but trust me, she has tasted the difference when I've tried swapping out cheaper teas and she insists I switch back to this one, so I can give it no less than 5 stars.

Good basic green tea. I also add this to other tisanes to give it a little bit of caffeine.

This Gunpowder green tea is a nice variety with a clean, grassy flavor. It is not my preferred green tea, but that's because I prefer a milder, less grassy variety. I at least can say it lives up to its name and is a good option for green tea lovers.

This is such a fun tea to watch as the leaves unfurl and a good cup of green tea. There seems to be a smokiness to this tea but it isn't over-powering.

grassy but not overwhelmingly grassy. a tad of smokiness, too. didn't try multiple steeps. would buy again

An all around great tasting green tea, not too bitter, and has a nice sweet taste. This tea is also very affordable for its high quality

Excellent green tea! I use it together with Jasmine Chun Hao and Hojicha to brew Jun, and my kombucha and scoby are much brighter and healthier since switching to this combination!

This is one of our staples in the house. Great earthy green tea flavor. We sometimes pair it with the Blood Orange for a nice combo. Solid tea.

Classic, beautiful green tea. Pure pleasure getting my antioxidants! Love to see those leaves unfolding in the hot water.

Started drinking green tea for the health benefits. Can say this is not my favorite. Jasmine Yin Hao is fast becoming my go to green.

Nice mellow flavor. Some gunpowder greens can be bitter, or become bitter as they cool but this one seems to hold it's flavor well.

I am not a big green tea fan, unless it has another flavor added. But this one is by far the best. I didn’t mind it at all! In fact, I would absolutely drink it again!

I’m not really a green tea drinker so didn’t expect to like this but it was very pleasant with a mild but decent aftertaste.

Gunpowder is probably my favorite green tea. It's just really great.

This is pretty good! Green tea is not my favorite overall, I like it in blends, but tend not to go for plain greens because of the grassy/vegetal flavor, I tend to go for more like hojicha or genmaicha. However, this tea is such a nice smooth green. It's not particularly vegetal and even though I vastly oversteeped my second steep (I forgot it for like 10 minutes!) it still did not get too bitter or astringent to drink. I probably won't add this to my stash permanently, but if it comes up as a sample again, I would enjoy it, and if you love greens, you might really like this!

I love this green tea. Have a cup of this and you'll never want to drink it from the teabags at the stores.

CommuniTEA sample: First cup, 180F for 2 minutes, Second cup, 180F for 2.5 minutes, Third cup, 175F for 2.5 minutes.

I've shown off gunpowder green teas before as a way to show how flavorful green teas can be! Strong, smokey, earthy and a bit of a bitter grassy flavor, all in one quick to brew green tea. Adagio's gunpowder is one of the best I've had, living up to all of those descriptions and having a subtle, almost honey like sweetness towards the back of it. Gunpowder green is very easy to over-steep and can become very bitter/astringent if left too long or made too hot, so be careful, but this is a rewarding tea when done right!

A bit grassy for me but overall a nice cuppa! Smokiness is subtle, thank goodness!

From the name, I was expecting a bold, overly smoky tea. What I actually got was a treat! A mellow cup with just a hint of sweetness and smokiness.

I thought I didn’t like gunpowder tea, but I think it was the lapsang souchong that blenders or company’s often put with it.
I taste no smokiness personally. It is very smooth, with no bitter notes. Full mouthfeel for sure though!

Gunpowder green tea is one of my staple green teas to have around. Good for an energy boost or after a big dinner. Smooth or sharp depending on how you brew. Always worth an extra steeping or two.

Gunpowder is my favorite green tea and this one does not disappoint, I will be ordering it again. I sometimes brew it for 3 min as I like a strong cup of tea.

Really amazing flavor. It's strong and has a bit of a smokey flavor. Not as sweet and smooth as other green teas, but is still very much a green tea. I only put 3/4 teaspoons per 8oz, because it is so strong

Yo, I took a sip of this brew, and the next thing I know I am on the floor searing burns from the steep and my wife is trying to assess if I'd been concussed. Not sure what happened, I had a black eye and a missing tooth. It may seem impossible, but this tea punched my lights out. This tea is strong. I loved it tho! I like my tea strong! going to try with honey and spearmint! will update review!

Gunpowder tea what more could you need to know? It’s not a scary as it sounds. It’s just gunpowder green tea. It’s green tea. You know how to make tea get a cuppa hot water and put some tea in it. Let it sit for a while and enjoy your tea drink the little Scooby-Doo whops that you have left

A slightly grassy but also sweet scent out of the bag, and a classic green tea flavor with the faintest hint of smoke aftertaste. A little strong and bitter for my liking, but I think steeping at 175 rather than 180 will remedy that.

This is a very strong cup of green tea, nice and verdant feel in the mouth. Oddly I find it has a bite to it of some kind, but it's a good bite.

This is my go to green tea. More robust flavor but mellow with no bitterness . You can steep it twice.

Out of the frist 6 samples I got, this is the one I was looking forword to trying the most. It did not let me down. Not much I could add to the discription. I tried it with and with out honey, goes nicely with the honey. I put this one my reorder list.

A great neutral green tea. Wonderful as an every day tea, Gunpowder doesn't just have one or two strong tastes that you can get bored of -- it's a great mixture of flavors that screams 'green tea!' This is definitely going in the rotation of teas that I regularly have.

What a lovely green tea. Gunpowder steeps into a pretty golden color. It has a pleasantly mild grassy flavor, slight sweetness and a mild smokiness, the buttery mouthfeel is to die for. The finish is clean and fresh.
