I mixed it with peppermint tea and some sugar and it was a delightful warm drink that I would make again.
A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

I mixed it with peppermint tea and some sugar and it was a delightful warm drink that I would make again.
I love this one. A beautful, crisp green with a delightful complexity due to the smokiness. I use this to make kombucha and it lends it an almost champagne flavor after fementing!
One of my favorite teas! I love the smokey flavor and brewing it for longer so it has a heavier flavor.
This is a very good green- simple, slightly nutty, not at all grassy or astringent. I enjoy it alone- but it's also good blended with other teas.
This tea was the life of the party the name alone draw then people. Really good when it's called outside and you must work.
So good so good so good the best tea ever. Love!!!
I love gunpowder green and this was not disappointing.
I love a good gunpowder green! I often mix it with spearmint for a mock 'Moroccan Mint' tea. It's delightful!
This is a classic Gunpowder tea from China. It has a slight smokey taste and it is a strong green tea. Brew only for about 2 minutes tops. If you are a black tea drinker, this is a good introduction to green teas.
I decided to try this based on an online review of the tea. Not only has it become a favorite of mine but has been very helpful with cold symptoms
Would be 5 stars if it were offered as organic tea. Otherwise, love it! I much prefer this to other types of green tea I've tried.
I like this tea, it has a mild flavor that is pleasant to drink. There's no 'wow' factor, but it works when wanting just a simple, enjoyable cup of green tea.
An old favorite of mine, gunpowder has a deep, rich taste that will wake you up on your sleepiest days.
a strong tea that I love on the weekends for my mornings
I love a good gunpowder tea. This is one of the best I have found, and I have tried several. The quality is great and I am very happy with my purchase. Will be getting more!
This is my husband’s go to tea every morning since giving up coffee.
I liked this a lot! Excellent green tea. It looks like it would hold up to a few steepings, too!
Finally got to try this one solo and I do like it. I think this is a very smooth green with a grassy level that even new green drinkers could handle as it is very mellow. There is the slightest dry finish with this one, but nowhere near enough to turn me away from it. I don't get the smokiness in the description, but maybe as a lapsang lover my 'smoke detector' doesn't work as well. I have other plain greens that I like much more, but could see this being kept on hand for variety. 180° 3.5 min.
I really like this tea... the mere beauty of the unfurling balls of luscious green leaves, the great green flavor wafting along with the steep... it's a classic, classy, green!
I love gunpowder. I brew for 2 minutes at 175. I didn’t get any smokiness, which I was happy for as I am not a fan of smoky teas. With the shorter brew, it is not bitter or too grassy and I get a light vegetal flavor. It would pair well with jasmine but I love it on its own. And fun how the leaves unfurl.
I much prefer to drink this tea when it is a part of blends, such as with Autumn Mist Green or Moroccan Mint. On its own, I note grassy undertones that are not pleasing to my taste buds. I was never that big of a green tea fan to begin with so take this review with a grain of salt.
Love this gunpowder green! It's very smooth and not too vegetal or bitter. It has a very slight smokiness to it, which I love, but for those who are not a fan of smoky teas I think would still enjoy this as long as you don't over-steep. Very relaxing!
Getting the smokiness this time! Whew. A little mineral-y for me but nice . This time I was glad I didn’t steep longer than 2 min so 🤷♀️
This was a nice green, not bitter- I think 2 min wasn’t enough I didn’t get any smokiness but it was nice
While better than some other green teas I've tried, this one didn't do much for me either. The flavor wasn't very strong, and what I could taste was on the grassy side. I won't turn it down if offered, but I don't think I'll be seeking it out either.
I really like how metallic this tea tastes, almost like i am steeping real gunpowder in my cup.
Somewhat disappointed. I like a green gunpowder tea with smokey undertones and a fairly strong taste. This one just did not have it.
It was a mild flavor without the bitterness. I loved it!
This is a delicious full-bodied green tea. It pairs wonderfully with raw honey. I was looking for something higher quality than my grocery store green tea bags and this was perfect!
I really like this tea being rolled up for ease. It is simple to measure it out or add it to a black tea for some added character.
This is one of my favorite green tea. It good as cold brew too.
A pleasant and smooth cup of tea, but the smokiness wasn’t as prominent as I anticipated. May use it in tea blends.
This is my favorite og the green teas. I haven’t found it to be grassy like so many of the greens. For me, it’s just a nice cup of tea to relax with.
A pleasant, middle of the road green tea with a hint of smokiness. Not overly vegetal, and not bitter. Left a lot of dust in my cup after the leaves unfurled, but the dust sank and didn’t impact my drink. I like this one and will definitely order more.
A very good basic green tea. It has a depth and smokiness that bagged green tea at the supermarket lack. A good tea to drink on a chilly fall morning while you sit outside.
This tea has a lot of spinach flavor, which I love in a green tea. It finishes really light and clean. I drink this every day! It's also slightly smoky and somewhat smells like seaweed. Absolutely dynamic, my favorite of the greens here on the site.
My favorite green tea. It's very simple, yet has a good classic green tea flavor with just a touch of smokiness.
Mid-cocoa colored; light herbaceous nose; a wet forest floor after the rain; mushrooms; balanced; deep rich flavor; long smooth finish.
7/115/25 Mid-caramel color; notes of cinnamon, baked bread, and floral, earthy aromas; tight and tannic; use less tea (a teaspoon at most) for greater balance. 16.5-17/91-92.
High quality Gunpowder, unlike many other shops. This, along with Sencha Premier, is one of my favorites.
When I first tasted gunpowder in a blend in 2008, I just hated it! I hurt my Tea friends feelings in a negative review and I realized I needed to explore blends- Fandom blends more than just one cuppa of tea sips. Now, I love and adored Gunpowder tea with other Tea flavors. I think this tea is brilliant with mint and MANY other flavors.
This is a very nice green tea for any time of day, without grassy or vegetal notes that I could detect, and a pleasant touch of smoke at the end. Also fits well blending a bit with raw pu’er.
It’s a bit of a strong green tea for me, I use it to feed my Scoby and get delicious green tea kombucha.
My absolute favorite green tea. I have two cups every morning, sometimes with lemon and/or honey. Delicious and refreshing.
Not all green teas are created equal and Gunpowder is my most favorite of them all. Vegetal flavor that hits the taste buds without taxing like grass or like you're drinking a flower.
Very solid green tea without being too vegetal. Definitely a staple and able to be resteeped. Pleasant aroma and mouthfeel.
I like to mince fresh ginger and add a tablespoon of it and a tablespoon of gunpowder green with it for a 22oz teapot. It’s a highly addictive and lovely morning experience
If you like gunpowder, you'll like this gunpowder. It doesn't resemble any other green tea in my cabinet and that's a good thing. Not because the other green teas are bad, I have a lot of great green teas. But rather because this tea is definitively itself. Strong flavor. Not the tea I'd serve in polite older company, but a tea that's great for game night and bento.
works hot or iced! its a good gunpowder green, not bitter or too astringent. has an interestingly vanilla smell to it out of the bag and after brewing. I steeped this one twice, first time for 2-3 min and second steep was for several hours since i was out of the house-- still tasted great and no bitterness, and probably could go for a 3rd resteep. the leaves expand a lot so you could probably use even less than 1 tsp per cup.
There is a slight smokiness to this tea that I adore. Mixing it with mint teas makes a wonderful Moroccan mint tea, as suggested. I also love that it's nice and soft in the second steeping.
Great gunpowder variant, a nice and strong green tea, and good any time of day. Definitely more of a strong kick-your-butt tea, but definitely what I would expect.
Nice and straightforward green tea. Warmed my soul.
