Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

Solid green tea with a simple but unique flavor, will definitely try this one again

Normally I don't like the flavor of green teas but this was delicious and goes down very smooth. It has that grassy smell that most green teas have but when it's brewed the flavor is not grassy at all and is savory.

A very nice, soothing green tea. I added a bit of honey as that is just how I like it. Also was excellent with fresh mint leaves.

Gunpowder is my favorite green tea, and this one is fantastic. My oncologist highly recommended Gunpowder tea as a healthful tea to drink, so it has that going for it. Another tea staple in my home, and this one is the best I've ever had.

This tea tastes like a cigar!! It s VERY smokey, I tasted nothing green. Didn t care for it.

If you want a middle ground green tea, one that isn’t too green or grassy, this is a great one! I like it as a mid morning treat if I have some down time-a nice flavor when you’ve got some downtime.

★★★★★

Best gunpowder I've ever tasted. That may not be saying much from a tea amateur, but it's definitely going to be a main staple of my tea stock.

★★★★★

Gunpowder has to be my favorite unflavored green tea. It has a very good flavor. The price makes it even better. I've blended this tea with others like jasmine pearls, English breakfast, earl grey, and a few others. It plays well with other teas, especially for iced tea.

Ive had this before and its a great green tea for those that like black tea.

Great, my standard green tea. For a long time, I actually avoided green teas (still largely do) because they tend to taste too 'vegetal' to me. This has just the right amount of 'green', without tasking like grass clippings. A daily drinker, unless I've run out.

★★★★★

A great, simple, straightforward green tea. It doesn t taste too grassy like other green teas.

Just an overall great green tea. I love the quality of the leaves, each beautifully rolled, elegantly unfolding in the brew basket.
I bought a bag to cut my flavored green teas, which works well. I can brew a cup that has the lovely added flavors (current favorite

This one's my favorite nonflavored green tea. No frills, just a fresh, earthy green tea.

★★★★★

Great, vegetal tea. This one is great for perking me up

So good! I love to add it to any tea for a boost of energy!

★★★★★

This is a very simple tea that really seems to focus on the quality of the tea leaves rather than any extra flavoring. It tastes perfect. Just a simple, perfect cup of green tea. It may not look as vibrant as some other teas, but its taste rivals that of any tea here.

This is one of the best gunpowders I tasted. Just enough of sourness, a lingering grassy floral aftertaste, and a nutty earthy aroma. Drinking gongfu, it becomes very milky with a thick texture and can go for at least 5 infusions without losing much flavor. For the price, this is one of the best green teas in my opinion.

Brewed at 300 milliliter of 175F water on 10 grams of tea with infusions consisting of 15 seconds and adding 3 seconds after the 2nd infusion.

This tea is strangely delicious! This green tea is lying on the safer side of flavors of tea. The smell of the tea, once steeped, smells of burning tobacco (except not as disgusting) or burnt gunpowder residue. I can see where this tea gets its name from! Unlike the the smell, the flavor of the tea is some-what delicate but you really have to be careful with the steeping time because it can get very strong and bitter, very fast. Luckily for me, I like a bitter tea.

★★★★★

My favorite green to date. Needs to steep for just a couple of minutes at a lower temperature to achieve the perfect taste. Also brews well in the fridge for iced tea!

★★★★★

I got this tea in the green teas of China sampler and loved it, so I had to buy more.

★★★★★

My favorite green tea.. light earthy grassy flavor that finishes with a hint of smoke..

Gunpowder tea is widely available, but this is one of the finest I've had the pleasure to find and enjoy. The dry green leaves are tightly rolled. I let it steep for two minutes and as the leaves unfolded they released a bright yellowish color; and a balanced flavor, lightly smokey character, without the grass tones that I usually taste in a green tea. Delightful aftertaste. The second steep is as good as the first.

Of course the longer you steep (four minutes or so) the darker it gets: a rich honey amber color, and the flavor becomes more intense with a sharper taste, a bit astringent and sweet on the finish.

I'm big on green teas, so this tea is great for me. Your classic green tea taste. A bit smokey and very smooth. Really great if you're into green teas.

This is one of my favorite teas so far on Adagio. It has a very mellow taste to it. I haven't had much experience with green teas, but I drink this one every morning. As a plus, the leaves unravel into whole leaves, so you use only have to use a small amount for each cup.

I've bought it more than once. It fulfills its purpose. Nothing special. I feel like I'm drinking green tea and becoming a bit more caffeinated.

I have nothing spectacular to say about this green tea and regard it as run of the mill by all accounts. I believe it great quality for its price, but the taste is mild and on the weaker side even with additional minute of brewing. I would recommend this tea to anyone who is hesitant to try tea because of the lack of its boldness in flavor.

Wow! I’ve mainly been drinking green teas mixed with flavors, besides matcha, so this is new for me, and this is going in my shopping cart on my next order, for sure. It’s got a very clean flavor with a light smokiness and no astringency whatsoever. The aroma is really interesting, a smoky scent that is reminiscent of bourbon to me, for some reason. Try this if you’re getting into greens or if it sounds interesting to you.

This is absolutely my favorite Green Tea of all time. It has a strong flavor for a green tea and I have been drinking this gunpowder green ever since I found it several years ago. Adagio Teas is the only place I have been able to find this type of Green Tea.

Gunpowder has a classic green tea flavor and tastes quite smooth. If you are looking for a traditional green tea flavor, Gunpowder is the tea for you!

Lovely tea by itself. Our favorite way to drink it is to mix it with spearmint tea.

Having been really used to Dragonwell, I was initially put off by the smoky flavor of Gunpowder. However, after drinking more of it, I came to enjoy the smokiness, even missing it a bit in my go-to Dragonwell. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a change.

This was a very interesting tea! Reminded me of a mild pu-erh with an oolong liquor.

Gunpowder is easily becoming my go-to green tea for drinking, whether as a standalone tea or mixed with mint to get Moroccan Mint tea. I find that it is only lightly smoky and not grassy or overly astringent. I steep mine slightly longer than the suggested time (I ve gone as long as 4 minutes) and find that it doesn t negatively affect the flavor.

An old favorite, slightly smoky but sweet and if you want to just sit there smelling it for a few minutes that is good too.

★★★★☆

A very bold green tea. The name suits it perfectly

★★★★☆

A good, basic green tea. Not too bitter, even if you accidentally steep it a little too long. (Though it s much better if you steep it per the time on the package!)

★★★★☆

Exactly what you expect from green tea but not a ton of flavor

My go to tea every morning first thing! I love the smoky flavor. The best green tea I have ever tasted! I have two cups every day.

★★★★★

My favorite green tea from adagio. Strong but not overwhelming flavor, with just the right amount of caffeine. This is the go to choice for anyone looking for a straight green tea.

Best green tea I've ever tasted! Doesn't have that grassy, dirty taste green teas so often sport. Definitely the one to try if you're new to and leery of green teas... If you don't like this one, don't bother trying any others.

★★★★★

Bursting with earthy flavors and gives me a lot of energy

Exactly what it should be, tasted great and I am excited to pick up more than a sample when i am ready to fill my tin.

Huge fan of this, strong flavor, and it gives me the energy I need.

A pleasant afternoon cup. Green without being too vegetal, and a balanced astringency.

A nice tea; but, I found I had to brew it more than the two minutes at 180 noted on the package. At two minutes, it had a nice scent but there was no taste. Once I brewed it an additional three minutes, it was more to my liking.

★★★★★

Nice flavorful taste. Very smooth even at 3 minutes of 185. Not bitter at all after 3 minutes.

This is the only green tea that I have tasted from Adagio and I enjoy it quite a bit because it's the kind of flavor that I'm looking for in a green tea. It's plenty of flavor as far as green tea goes. Spinachy and a little smoky, and I think it tastes sweeter as the cup cools down. I recommend it if you want to get into green teas, just like what pretty much everybody else on here says.

I have tried combining this with peppermint to make Moroccan Mint... Once. If you're going to try to do it, try the smallest amount of peppermint at first and then work your way up on the proportions with later brews until you like the flavor. I put just a tea bag of peppermint into three tsp.s of this Gunpowder and the peppermint was waaaaay overpowering.
