Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

★★★★★

I was hoping for a green tea I would enjoy plain or with the addition of mint from my herb garden, and this tea fits the bill! Just enough smokiness to be interesting alone, and perfect with the addition of mint.

Woody and earthy with a floral finish, one of the best teas for the price. A bit unforgiving of mistakes, it can turn bitter if not steeped properly.

★★★★☆

A basic, traditional Chinese green tea, gunpowder is great as an intro to green tea for entry-level tea drinkers. The cup is defined by light smokiness and mellow flavor.

★★★☆☆

Not too bad, but not as good as Sleeping Dragon green tea.

★★★★★

A nice rounded cup of tea, with a little jolt! I'll be buying this regularly.

★★★★★

A solid green tea. There is a hint of smokiness but then the grassiness you get from most green teas comes to round it out. Overall rather pleasant.

★★★★★

This is my favorite of all the gunpowder teas I have tried

★★★★☆

Good value but not a fan of the nutty flavor. Generally prefer lighter aromatic green tea profiles

★★★★★

This is my day to day tea. When I don’t have it it can through my day off.

★★★★★

Excellent tea! With the name “gunpowder” this tea was a very pleasant surprise! It may become my new morning tea!

★★★★★

A strong green tea . For when I really want to taste the green

This is my favorite green tea. Nice and mellow and soothing. I particularly enjoy this if I have overindulged on food.

★★★★☆

This tea is mildly smoky with a slight nutty flavor. It is a full bodied tea and is more robust than a lot of other light greens. Overall, if you re a fan of Chinese green tea this is one of the pinnacles of China s selection (in my mind anyway).

Love it! Steep three times for 2 minutes @ 180. Then add spearmint.

I have been using this tea for several years to make iced tea. LOVE it. I drink 3-4 qts a day and it is my mainstay!

★★★★☆

A solid green tea. Not particularly exciting or intriguing, but definitely reliable and sometimes that's all you need.

★★★★★

Simply put amazing taste just like the tea at my local Chinese resteraunt

This gunpowder tea was just okay for me although my hubby is a gunpowder fan and he enjoyed.

★★★★★

Though it may smell pungent, this tea steeps fabulously well and improves with the subsequent steep! I drink it plain, though a bit of sugar may not go amiss.

Not a huge fan of gunpowder, there is a very slight smokiness but the flavour just isn t there for me. Beautifully rolled leaves, wish there was more to this tea but it would be a great blending base.

★★★★★

So very smooth, I love how balanced this tea is!! I steep it more than once, usually, to make it last longer and appreciate all the flavours.

Probably my favorite earthy green tea. Has a subtle smoky flavor that still preserves the normal green tea flavor

Fresh and high quality Gunpowder - my go to tea every morning!

★★☆☆☆

I've tried multiple brewing methods and I can't seem to get the results others have posted here. Very grassy and earthy.

★★★★★

We always have this in the house. It has a little bit of an earthy taste but everyone seems to love it!

★★★☆☆

You don't need much to get a strong smokey flavor. Add more than a few leaves and the smokey flavor is all you taste.

I've been looking forward to trying some quality Chinese green, as I'm used to Japanese green. The scent in the bag is what you expect with green tea. The unfurling of the little pellets was fun to watch, and the flavor/scent brewed is strong and earthy. This one would work well in blends with strong black teas

★★★★★

Gunpowder is a green tea. It takes on two minutes to steep. In my experience it may require extra tea for more bold flavor, which I like better. Mostly, with green teas I have liked, I like coffee creamer in them, but Gunpowder is good black with a slight sweetener like Stevia. Gunpowder has a good flavor and is not too strong with the caffeine after five cups and extra loose leaf tea for more bold flavor. Gunpowder has a nice color too and aroma is pleasant. Cost is also appealing to first time buyers. Shipping time is good, tea arrives well packaged and in easy-to-open box with extras. A good buy.

The Gunpowder green tea is a little on the smokey side but still makes a great cup of tea!

Great green tea, what else can I say? I never had it in it's purest form, this is a definite buy.

Gunpowder tea has a unique production method. To make the highest quality gunpowder tea, artisans wither, steam, roll, and dry individual tea leaves. Machine rolled gunpowder tea is also available (and quite common) although not as highly revered. This tea is sometimes called pearl tea or bead tea based on the shape of each tiny tea pellet. Some people also call it Chinese gunpowder tea.

When you steep a cup of gunpowder tea, each individual leaf unrolls or 'explodes' as some would describe. The tea has a taste that many describe as lightly smoky—as the name indicates.

Some people blend gunpowder tea with other types of tea to create unique flavors. For example, gunpowder tea combined with spearmint tea creates a well-known blend called Moroccan Mint tea.

Good bulk tea. Less green-tea-like and more bitter coffee-like but that's okay.

★★★★★

This is my favorite tea to add to blends. It gives everything just a little different spin. I love to mix it with fruit teas.

★★★★★

This is my favorite green tea so far and I will definitely be ordering it again.

A really good green tea, but I do tend to prefer either Kukicha or Hojicha.

★★★★★

This is always one of my favorite teas <3 Definitely recommend

Great tea if you are looking for a plain green tea!

Very solid green tea, multiple steeps, I steep one 3cup pot three or more times over a few hours while relaxing at home.

Good flavor, best balanced green tea I have tried so far.

This is really, really great cold. It doesn't do anything much for me hot, and it reminds me a lot of the stuff in Arizona teas, etc.
