Adagio gunpowder tea leaves are rolled into tiny pellets (like gunpowder, ha ha) which makes them easy to measure. The flavor is a true green, slightly astringent, smooth cup of tea.
A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

This tea was nothing special. I tried it a few different ways, a min longer, a few degrees hotter, with a sweetener - all meh. Not bad, just nothing special.
Update:
I made some of this tea again after taking a break from it and having several other green teas. Its flavor is good. I think I got spoiled by Gyokuro, which was excellent.
I love the taste of a good, consistent green tea. This one definitely hit the spot for me, which makes sense as it is such a popular and well-known type of green tea. The way the little curled leaves open up was quite a pleasant surprise visually, too. I'll definitely be ordering this one in a larger amount!
My fave green tea! Slightly smoky, fragrant, and I simply love the tasty buckshot-style balls.
This tea is just a great everyday tea. Goes good with add-ins too!!
Solid, robust, it's my daily all-day tea. Keeps well and is assertive enough to be very good at room temp with meals.
A staple in my cupboard, this classic cup is a great tea to serve all guests due to it s full-bodied flavor and incredibly light smokey note.
Classic gunpowder taste, bold and flavored just right. My daily office green. Nice warm pot gets me through most mornings and even afternoons.
Purchased for a friend who had trouble finding gunpowder locally; she's pleased with Adagio's offering.
I love it! The smoky flavor over shadows the normal grass flavor associated with most green teas. I did oversteep it though. Definitely a unique tea that I want to keep on hand.
Simply delicious! I love drinking this by itself, it's not too bitter at all.
A very consistant Gunpowder tea. If you're already a fan, this tea will not disappoint.
Great, simple gunpowder green tea. Not bitter and does well for my habit of re-brewing the leaves all day long. Will definitely buy again. Also, it works well to add some fresh fruit to it during brewing for a different flavor.
This tea is a bit smokey and vegetal. It is good on its own, but it is amazing when combined with peppermint and a hint of honey. I consume it before workouts.
For the price this is good. I’m rather new to the world of tea, and trying to get into green tea for the health benefits. I liked the jade snail better but that was double the price. I do taste the Smokiness that people describe with gunpowder tea which I thought I would love but I’m just not loving this tea quite as much as others. I do like the golden flower oolong though better than this and it’s about the same price as well so I will probably continue with that, even though it’s more of an oolong than a green. But it’s a light oolong so, hopefully it holds many of the same health benefits. I brewed all my green teas in the quick 30 second way, with multiple steepings so, I’ll try this with a longer steep time and update you guys. The astringency was light with this tea but we will see what happens when I have a longer brew time.
Average green tea. I liked it better when I mixed it with a fruit tea.
A nice green tea. I agree with other reviewers that it has a slightly bitter taste, but I really enjoyed the flavor. I plan on getting this one again.
Very good gunpowder. Anytime I make this for friends they love it. It's just a little too dry for me if it makes sense. See one of the best gunpowders out there just not my favorite. Will still repurchase.
Very good, solid gunpowder tea. It has a nice fullness to the flavor. Nothing super crazy, so it’s a nice daily.
I'm liking the fullness - it is a bit bitter, but in a good way!
This is a really solid basic green tea. It is basically my go-to for the morning. You don't need to brew it long to get some good flavor. I tend to like teas more bitter but you only need a few mins so it is perfect for the quick morning cup!
This is a really good bitter green tea. Don t oversteep or it will become TOO bitter, but when brewed right is a great tea for when you aren t feeling up to something sweet.
For the price, it was great. Pretty standard green tea. nothing special.
Smoky undertones, but not too strong; great daily tea
Nice smooth feeing and has a little bit of a smokey taste.
Gunpowder is really hit and miss for me. I enjoy it every one in a while, but the taste get old fast. This version is actually quite high quality. Tastes great! Hit it for 1 1/2 minutes on first steep, then 3-5 on 2nd. 2nd steep is the best -- super mellow with no bitterness at all.
This is the best tea I have every had. I was a committed coffee drinker but cannot have it any more and tried lots of Green Teas but Gunpowder is the best so far. I still would have gunpowder over a cup of coffee, its a strong and robust taste. Nothing has change it is a great tea!
This has become my go-to for green tea. It's an economic choice compared to Gyokuro, can be paired with Spearmint for a superb combination of smoky and minty flavors, and is fantastic hot or cold.
This is my daily driver for green tea due to the great taste and very low cost.
Mixing it with a pinch of spearmint is known as 'moroccan mint'. I usually don't anything to my teas but the mixture of fresh spearmint and the gunpowder green tea is a match made in heaven.
Both spearmint and gunpowder are dirt cheap too, can't beat it.
Loved it! I bought a variety of teas for my team. This one was another favorite. Great Tea!
Great green tea flavor, not bitter at all. I didn't expect to like it, but I'm sad I only ordered the sample size!
Ok green tea, smokey. Drinkable, but I tasted some better ones
This is my favorite green tea-its smooth and not bitter at all. We continue to keep buying it!
Great, simple green tea. Smokey flavor and it brews great (I prefer 3 1/2 minutes). Tastes great with some lemon or honey when I'm sick and gives me the morning wakeup I need.
It s my favorite green tea for repeated drinking during the day.
Very good green with plenty of flavor. Is as hardy as advertised.
I just love the smoky flavor of these excellent green tea. My fav by far.
a thoroughly delightful green. very satisfying and can be combined well with others
This is the perfect green tea for someone who loves black tea. It doesn't have a heavy grassy taste but has just enough of it to qualify for green. This mixed with a little lapsang souchong is my go to tea.
Good everyday tea -- I've been looking for a gunpowder Green tea for some time. I could just guzzle this all afternoon.
I find it fitting that a tea called 'gunpowder' would have a smoky hint and a bright flavor, ending with a pleasantly bitter finish. Will very likely buy this again.
Today I learned that I m not a big fan of green teas, so this review is with a grain of salt. I don t care for it, and it s nothing on the tea. It s just not for me
One of my favorites. Bold and wonderful aroma. Fantastic!
The flavor this tea was very unique but I can't get enough of it.
I appreciate the value for the tea, but my husband and I just couldn't enjoy it. If I were to describe its taste using a scene from my childhood: Imagine sitting by the pool, your parents smoking cigarettes and drinking wine at the table. Everyone goes to bed and a light rain fills the night. You wake up early and go sit at the table where all you smell is wet cigarette butts and stale wine from the night before. That's exactly how this tea tastes.
I'm surprised to see so few people mention how fruity it smelled and tasted, but it really was the cigarette smoke taste that ruined it for us. It doesn't compare to the roasted/smokey taste of something like dragonwell.
A tasty, basic green tea, good for helping you wake up in the morning.
My all time favorite green tea. It is the perfect.
My favorite all around tea from adagio the Gunpowder is so smooth and delicious
I adore this green tea. It has a fantastic flavor that is delicious and smooth without being overpowering. I usually use it as a base for my own mixes, but it is also lovely on its own with just some honey.
A good general green tea that's good hot or iced. It doesn't need sweetening but it does hold up well to sugar or honey.
