This tea has rice in it! How could I not try this. Once brewed, the stuff smells like a mild coffee and the taste is heavy enough to make it seem like I've had a snack. Goes great with meals.
Classic Japanese green tea, blended with toasted, popped rice. Warm, nutty with a lovely savory and hearty quality.

Of all the genmai's I have had - this one is the best
Very nutty and distinct. Some say this is similar to 'puffed wheat' cereal aroma and taste. Nice flavor.
one of my favorite new teas. Has a nice taste and is very nice after dinner.
Ha! I found that tea from my favorite Japanese restaurant that I have been looking for forever! Loved this tea, especially the little popcorn pieces. Awesome toasted flavor.
This tea always tastes good after dinner. Adagio's is a classic blend--full of roasty popcorny notes and flavors. Delicious!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this tea. I love the story behind it. I had put it into my shopping cart several times and then 'chickened out' so to speak, before taking the plunge. It is much better than I imagined. It really has a distinct toasted rice flavor and is very soothing. I'm glad I decided to try it. It smells like breakfast.
More rice than tea, but a lovely toasted flavor despite that. Not sure what the point of the popcorn was, since you can't taste it. Comparable to the genmai cha tea served in my favorite sushi restaurant.
This tea is soothing! Not overpowering. Personally, this tea is especially great after a meal! If you go to certain Japanese (Sashimi / Sushi) Restaurants, they will usually serve this tea when you request it. I sort of wish they left the rice bits on the side, since they are edible.
Wonderful toasty, hearty flavor. The puffed rice adds great texture and flavor to the tea.
I figured I would love this one, but it turns out that I prefer the Genmaicha that I can purchase locally. This one had a much more smokey flavor rather than just toasted and would be preferred by anyone who likes smokey flavored teas.
This is one of my all time favorite teas. It is earthy and smooth.
I drank Gen Mai Cha for quite a while and enjoyed. When I went to re-order, it was out of stock for a very long time. When I saw it back in, I ordered a large amount immediately. Apparently, the recipe has been changed. There is far more popcorn in it than I remember. There may be more popcorn than tea in fact. I feel as though I am drinking popcorn. I am in the process of trying to mix in another green tea to get something that is drinkable. I'm sorry I wasted my money on this.
This tea has an amazing unique taste which is different from most of the teas I have tried in the past. It has a nice rice/rice-pop taste. I predict this is probably a hate it or love it tea but you should try it to see yourself.
This Japanese tea is phenomenal. It has a salty taste as expected from the popcorn. The aroma that eminates from the tea will fill up a couple rooms of your home and make them smell great. Can be steeped twice, but I wouldn't recommend any more than that. I find this tea to be especially good in the morning.
Was pleasantly surprised by this unique, savory tea. The roasted rice flavor is VERY pronounced and almost completely overshadows the vegetal and slightly astringent undertones of the Japanese green tea... and I think it's a *fantastic* flavor profile. I can imagine this tea evoking a strong love-it-or-hate-it response among green tea aficionados.
My favorite of green teas from this site! It reminds me of breakfast cereal in the morning and popcorn in the evening.
I love this tea. The aroma is so delightful- reminds me of a fresh rice cake. The flavor is really interesting, and is almost savory. This tea is a keeper in my stash!
We really enjoy this tea--a completely different flavor than we've ever had. The toasted rice gives it an almost yeasty flavor. I mix it with a green tea and a little jasmine for a delicious, unusualy cup
With its unusual toasted-rice flavor profile, this is a love-it-or-hate-it kind of tea, and for me it just didn't work. Some of my friends swear by it, though, and tell me it's an excellent example of the style.
Ok I'd imagine this is an aquired taste. It's very grassy with a strong taste of toasted grains. Personally I love it but not for everyone.
I ordered this because I usually like green teas. I found out it was "Green Popcorn Tea." I am probably the only person on the planet who does not care for popcorn. Drinking a tea that tastes like popcorn is no joy to me. If you like popcorn you may like this tea. The only redeeming quality is that if you add sugar and cream, it does taste good, assuming you like your tea sweet.
My boyfriend and I both love this tea. Reminds me of the rice teas my grandma always served. The grain flavor is great. If you want a strong tea flavor, you will need to add a fairly large serving, while if you want the grain to dominate, you can brew longer with less.
This tea is not for everyone but I love it. My husband doesn't like it. The aroma is like fresh (non-buttered) popcorn, and he feels like he should be chewing it ;-) But truly the green tea flavor is there too, just more toasty.
One of the few green teas I will drink. It's a little odd at first but its unique, light flavor is perfect after a workout. I love this one after my aikido class!
I was very interested in trying this unique sounding tea, but was sadly very disappointed. It was not so much the taste, which I found rather interesting, but I found the smell highly unpleasant. I could not bring myself to finish one cup. Love the look, not so much anything else.
One of the best genmai cha teas around. Most other genmai chas have too much of a burnt popcorn flavor.
This is obviously just my opinion, since I think this tea would be great if you like this particular flavor, I personally, could not finish my first cup. It basically tastes like drinking hot water with a strong brown rice aftertaste. Definitely not my thing.
I'll admit to being really skeptical about this at first, but it ended up being fantastic. The rice adds a nice light flavour to it, making it a lot tastier to me than most green teas I try.
I really like genmai cha's and this one was not bad. It didn't quite live up to Samovar's "Ryokucha" genmai cha, but it was pretty good.
The flavor of this tea is great if you enjoy a grainy, malty taste. The downside is that it is extremely sensitive to steeping conditions and the leaves do not brew well a second time. Despite this, it is still an excellent tea.
If you are into trying different things, definitely try this genmai cha at least once. It's great for sipping during a cold day while reading a book at home.
I really liked this tea. The nutty flavor of the popcorn/rice combined really well with the smoky flavor of the tea.
The aroma and taste was initially strange, but grew on me. Maybe, too, the backstory added to my experience of this interesting tea.
I go to this tea time and time again because of its economics and its taste. This is my everyday tea because it's not too strong, brewing it is bulletproof and because when it's time to reorder, I don't need to worry about my grocery budget.
I really couldn't stomach this one. I rated it okay for the fact that i don't particularly like greent tea; which I suspect is what made me biased; and I don't want to turn away anyone who does enjoy it on my review alone.
That said, I was actually really looking forward to trying this tea, despite not being a huge green tea fan~ roasted rice & popcorn sounded fabulous to my taste sensibilities. I brewed it at under-boiling (as you should with green teas); and only for about a minute~ it was a pale yellow-green in colour & cloudy, the first thing that tipped me off i might not like it. What did it in though was the aroma. It was just really awful to me- something akin to mowed grass~ a normally lovely scent to someone in the middle of a snowy cleveland morning, but just not right for my cup of tea. The roasted rice & popcorn are definitely evident in it as well; and might have tasted fantastic in a black tea or even a white tea, but mingled with the green, it was just not pleasant. I can enjoy a savory or earthy tea; but this didn't fall into that category.
If you enjoy green tea, don't let my review deter you though~ try a sample before you buy the whole tin; you might love it. If however, you're not a green tea fan; or new to green tea, i wouldn't reccomend it. Most of all, this reminded me to take advantage of the samples Adagio offers- they're really a great option; you get 10 cups worth for $2, so you can really determine if you like something before investing in it- last time i ordered a sample I loved it and couldn't wait till the full size arrived, so i jumped the boat on this one & ended up regretting it, since there's a 35% loss in a refund- so be wise fellow shopper, and just take advantage of the great sample sizes Adagio offers if you're not 100% certain- better to love it so much you use up the sample & have to wait a day till the full tin arrives than not love it & waste money you could have spent on one you did. With Adagio's super fast shipping, it won't be that long of a wait :)
Definitley a different flavored tea. Personally not one of my favorites, but it's still a nice change of pace from the norm. I guess I'm not too fond of the puffed rice flavor in it.
I love the lingering flavor that the brown rice gives this tea. It is my go-to tea and drink several cups a day. The flavor always reminds me of eating sushi at my favorite restaurant.
This is my favorite green tea. I love the roasted, almost nutty flavor that the toasted rice adds to it. It turns a cup of tea into something more substantial.
This tea is defintately different. It's nutty and doesn't really taste like tea, but it's not too bad.
Fantastic genmai cha. It's one of those teas you either love or hate. My mother sampled it and said "It's like drinking brown rice!", to which I replied "Exactly!"
The toasted rice in this gives the tea a unique flavour
Genmaicha is very distinctive, and adagio's version doesn't dissapoint. It definitely tastes more of roasted rice and popcorn than it does of tea, but that should be expected. If you want a roasty rice beverage, this is your ticket. If you don't, steer clear.
Any tea drinker who has not had Genmai Cha needs to try this. It's a diferent animal when it comes to tea taste. It's a plethora of tastes all in one cup. The puffed rice and popped corn add a slightly salty Cerealish note, and the green tea adds some smokey undertones. Very interesting tea. And an interesting story behind it.
This is an unusual tea. I like it--it will be just right when I'm in the mood for savory tea.
One of the best teas, very great flavor with nutty undertones. Can be resteeped once, awesome tea after large meals.
There is a disagreement in my house about this tea. One member greatly enjoys its unique rich flavor, while the other is not sure about this savory tea. I would recommend it to people who want to try something a bit different.
Love this tea! Nutty, fun, the taste reminds me of the ocean. The tea foams a little while it steeps and creates a very crisp flavor.
Nutty flavor makes this quite unique. Great guest tea, always surprises.
This was ok, I guess. I wasn't quite sure about the salty aspect of it. If you really like toasted rice I guess you'll probably like it, since that's what I tasted the most of
