I grew up drinking Yamamotoyama's genmai cha, so I was excited to try different versions. This one isn't as bitter, and has the nice toasty flavor. Not the most amazing cup of genmai cha I've ever had, but this is a great buy from Adagio.

This has been my favorite tea for years and years. I have tried maybe a dozen different brands and have even tried my hand at making it myself but nothing comes close to how much I LOVE Adagio's version. 1 /1 ! I will come back to this tea again and again and again.

This distinctive tea has quickly become one of my favorites and one that I will always keep on hand. To me it tastes a lot like puffed wheat breaksfast cereal which was one of my favorites as a child. Everytime I drink it though, it seems to confuse my brain as I feel like I should be chewing something with the flavor that it has. bsolutely delicious with a bit of honey added!

★★★☆☆

The toasted puffed rice sounded very interesting to me, so I figured I'd try it. To be honest, I thought the flavor tasted too much like... I don't know, toast. ouldn't really taste the tea as much as I'd like. If you're looking for something really different in a tea though, you should try it.

★★★★☆

I find this tea to be satisfying to have in place of a carb-based snack. It must be the smell and earthy taste of the toasted rice. Weird side note, I think some of my rice kernels popped while stored in the bag, but I brewed it anyway and it was still tasty.

One of my favorite kinds of tea, and Adagio's version is lovely and lacks the burnt taste that some versions of genmai cha from other places have. Just be sure to stick to the 45 seconds-1 minute steeping time! Otherwise the rice can get overpowering and muddle the tea.

Very good, similar in flavor to the genmai cha served in restaurants. Has a very roasty flavor and is a vivid spring green color in the cup. I suggest trying a sample first since some people might not like this combination.

The amount of time that you steep this tea is dependant on how much of a 'nutty' flavor that you want. Overall, very tasty and unique!

I really like this one~ Grassy with warm, toasty flavour. Tea and toasted rice together, what isn't to like?

★☆☆☆☆

This one is... weird. Some sips it kind of tastes like - fish? I don't know why.

★★★★★

There is so much win with tea that it is hard to even talk about. Great roasted flavor and a wonderful light taste a worthwhile purchase and a great tea for the explorers or those who know a really cup of win when they see it.

Like others have said, this variation of genmaicha is very 'ricey'. I adore it but I've also endlessly picked as much rice as possible to put into my tea!

I really love the toasted rice in this. The flavor comes through really well. Quite possibly my favorite variety of green tea.

★★★★★

Very hearty flavor. Delicious warm and goes well with curry. Cannot really reuse tea for a second pot because the rice disintegrates.

★★★★★

One of my favorite comfort teas. The nutty roasted flavor of the popcorn makes this a winner every time!

★★★☆☆

I really don't know how to feel about this tea. Its weird and ricey. I normally love this kind of thing, but I think I'll need to give this one more time.

★★☆☆☆

not sure what it was about this tea..something about the smell and taste really turned me off. i wanted to like it, but it tasted too much like wood to me :(

★★★★★

This tea is wonderful! It taste like green tea, but with a extra nutty layer of yumminess! One of my new favorites!

★★★★★

A nice, toasty tea that's excellent when you're in the mood for something with a lot of flavor. The toasted rice makes for a very warm, soothing drink that I can drink daily! The rice is really the main flavor in this tea, though. It has a nice aftertaste of green tea, but other than that the toasted rice is the main attraction. I recommend it highly, though. I'm not a fan of flavored teas, I don't really consider them 'real teas', but this is one of the exceptions!

I have fond memories of this tea as it was my late father's favorite type of green tea. We'd always have a bag of Japanese genmai cha in the house and he'd drink multiple cups of it every day. I grew to love this type of tea as well, and I always remember trying to find the green tea with the rice and popcorn in. Adagio's version is much less harsh than many of the other brands I've tried, and the nuttiness of the roasted rice mingles well with the green tea.

I think it's definitely an acquired taste. The roasted nuttiness can be a little too strong or bitter for the palate. I once accidentally oversteeped it (not this Adagio brand, but another one), and the resulting taste reminded me of burning electronics. Oof, do not oversteep this tea.

★★★☆☆

Of all the teas I have ordered from Adagio, this is far and way the one I enjoyed the least. As a fan of green teas, I was intrigued by the idea of adding toasted rice to give it a hint of character. I was expecting something along the lines of gunpowder tea, but with a nuttier edge instead of the spinach-like character of that lovely tea. What I got was a tea that tasted like an overcooked batch of microwaveable popcorn. I can taste no hint of the tea whatsoever.

I imagine this would appeal to fans of yerba mate. If you are purchasing this as a lover of green tea, I encourage you to try the sample size before you make a large purchase.

I think the balance between the green tea and the rice flavor was perfect. This is definitely a tea I am going to buy again and again.

★★★★☆

The tea itself smells like seaweed and Rice Krispies (and tastes of both, to a degree). The smell and taste are rather nice, even if the mixture sounds odd. There is a bit of a strange aftertaste that I can't quite explain, but even that is fairly pleasant. It's a good kind of bitter, if that makes any sense. I plan on buying more.

★★★★☆

Nice tea, more of an acquired taste. Nothing fancy, just crispy-rice flavor added to strong green tea (I like my tea to be strong, and this is the first green tea that's as strong as black tea). The scent, however is strongly sweet and delightful - although not sure where its coming from. The quality of green tea leaves is very good, although I didn't find the crispy rice extraordinary. But it wasn't bad either.

alot more fresher than your regualer grocery store genmaicha tea

★★★★☆

I hadn't expected quite the quantity of rice in this, it is roughly 1:1 tea:rice. That doesn't detract from the delicate taste or the roasted, grassy smell.

Still love this tea and re-ordered this since I went through it faster than I expected!

This green tea really surprised me. Most green teas taste a bit 'grassy' but this one had such a lovely and complex flavor that I really enjoyed.

I highly recommend this tea.

I love this tea! If you like genmai cha, this tea definitely gets it right. Strong toasted rice flavor

I really liked the nuttiness/toasted rice flavor. It may not be for some but its great in the morning.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite teas. Light, roasty, and almost impossible to oversteep.

In general, I'm not a fan of green tea, finding most taste like spinach water. I did, however, want the health benefits associated with drinking green tea so I figured I'd give this one a try. I'm ever so glad I did. For me, the toasty flavor of the rice transforms green tea into something so soothing and delicious, I can drink gallons of it. Adagio's version is the best of the several I've tried. I use 1 rounded teaspoon per cup. The tea is never bitter using the green tea setting on my UtiliTEA kettle and it stands up to three infusions. This one is definitely a winner. If you're not a fan of green teas, give this one a try.

I wanted to like this tea, but the salty savory flavor is not something I can really get used to. I usually like that kind of flavor, but not so much in this tea, the rice flavor overpowers the green tea flavor.

★★★★☆

This is really great tea. Genmai cha is one of my favourite green teas and I was really glad that adagio could restock my supply of it-- it's very ricey. The only problem I could find with it is that although traditionally it's got rice in it to take up room, there was a bit too much rice in the pouch and not enough tea. However, it was still really tasty!

I love this tea! Its green tea with popped rice and you can taste both the green tea and rice, I think it makes a very good blend and I also love the aroma of it. Although, I honestly don't think it will survive more than 1 brew.

★★★★★

I've tried Genmai cha at other tea companies and Adagio easily stands above them. Very often, I find green tea to be either overly astringent or lacking flavor altogether. This particular Genmai cha caught my attention because of the ratio of toasted rice to green tea. Most companies will overdo one element, eliminating the flavor of the other. Adagio's blend is balanced, offering a fantastic palette of flavor.

★★★☆☆

Not the best genmaicha I've had. there's too much popped rice in adagio's version. I was really excited about this one since genmaicha is one my favorite green teas and had high hopes for it, but in the end it fell flat. The flavor's not nearly as strong as some other genmaichas I've had, despite steeping this one for a while!

★★★★★

I wasn't sure that I would like this at first, but it's unique and delicious enough to become a long-standing favorite.

★★★★☆

I was first served this tea in a Japanese tearoom. This is a delightfully different tea experience. Worth giving it a try, especially if you like popcorn!

★★★★☆

great smoky green tea. it's almost like drinking a rice cake. very nice with dark or milk chocolate for that 'salty-sweet' effect!

★★★★☆

I am very surprised at how much I enjoy this tea. I thought it was going to be too strong and overpowering. I thought I was going to have to add sugar (something I very rarely do), but I didn't. The toasted rice is the most powerful flavor - it does not taste anything like a traditional tea. So, I will have to be in the right mood to drink it, but it is very good. Certainly a must if you like to have some unique teas in your collection.

★★★★★

Genmai Cha is one of my favorite teas. It's light, nutty, and had that soothing green tea flavor. Adagio's is excellent!

★★★★★

Perhaps I should have held off my review until I steeped it more than once at varying temperatures, but I just couldn't wait. I've always wanted to try genmai cha, but had never seen a loose version available (at least in stores). When I saw it on adagio, I snatched it up, with expectations of a Rice Krispies treat tea under some grassy notes. Adagio's version is exactly how I imagined, albeit a bit smoky, which can be mistaken for bitterness. It smells amazing too, so if you're one of the people who can't get into it, it would make a good satchet for the holidays (it smells so warm and dessert-ish). :)
The other reviews have said a longer steeping time will produce a nuttier taste, so I'm looking forward to that. I think with a small splash of non-dairy milk, it'll make a wonderful lunch tea, especially as the temperature drops!

This is my favorite tea, hands down. I love the flavor but I have to admit that the aroma alone would be worth the price!

★★★☆☆

It tasted very different than most teas, in a way that I simply did not enjoy.

I love this tea with its nutty flavor and roasted profile. It's a dummy-proof blend as I have yet to make a cup that I regret which makes it a good workhorse tea. In the afterglow of another satisfying sip, it is the kind of tea that you can fully inhale. As an added benefit, it's a good tea to accompany a journey of fasting.

Ever wondered where that lovely tea from Japanese restaurants comes from? Here it is. Delivering the nutty aroma of roasted rice this tea is a flavor sensation. Often called 'popcorn tea' because in the roasting process many rice grains burst, and have the appearance (and some of the flavor) of tiny popcorn kernels.

★★★★★

This is how I start my morning. Pair it with any fruit based white or green for an excellent pick me up. Also great on it's own for dinner.

★★★★☆

My favorite dinner tea. Pairs really well with chicken and fish based meals, light enough that it doesn't fill you up.
