I really like genmaicha. it has a very round and savory flavor that you get more often in coffee than tea. Adagio's genmaicha even has a bit of a sesame note among the puffed rice and grassy green- however, I have noticed that it easily develops an unpleasant aftertaste. I am not sure if this is my fault, as I may be using water that is too hot or the metal basket of my teapot may be lending a metallic flavor- but even when brewed in my ingenuitea and in other people's teapots, I notice the same aftertaste. It's a lovely cuppa while being drunk- no milk and no sugar! However, that aftertaste throws me off a little bit.

★★★★★

Really lovely and one of my favorites. I've tried others, but Adagio's has a nice balance of sencha and rice. Low in caffeine (and astringency), it's particularly nice in the evening.

This was a fun tea to try. I couldn't shake the impression that I was eating a bowl of unsweetened Sugar Smacks cereal while I was drinking it though.

★★★★★

Even before tasting this tea is visually attractive, with large, beautifully browned grains of rice. The taste is smooth and roasty, with a solid green base. I had to brew it a bit longer than recommended to bring out the full flavor.

I purchased this for a friend. She absolutely LOVES it! I tried it and it's not bad. I prefer more fruity teas myself. But, she is impressed :)

Most days, I make a big batch of tea in the morning, fill a thermos and my comically large mug with fresh tea, and drink it throughout the day. On days when even that isn't enough, I made a little genmai cha for my second batch. It's inexpensive and since it's got quite a bit of filler in it, it seems to brew up a batch of tea that doesn't pack quite as much punch so I don't have trouble sleeping at night.

Many people really love the taste of genmai cha, and while I like it, it also sort of tastes like soggy popcorn and I tend to tire of it if I have it too much, which is why it's only a once-in-awhile tea for me.

This is a great option if you are looking for an affordable green with a toasty flavor, and especially if, like me, you don't care for most of the sweeter flavored teas.

★★★★★

I received a free sample of this with my last order, the puffed rice gives the tea a delightful and unique toasty flavor (plus, the little popped pieces are adorable)! I really like it!

★★★★★

This tea is pretty fun! At first I wanted to eat the little popcorn chunks, but decided against it. If Adagio put it in their tea the flavor it infuses must be worth it. It reminds me of fall and spring. Tastes like freshly puffed rice and/or corn.

★★★★★

Without a doubt, my FAVORITE tea on the entire site!! Nothing else quite like it!

blech. it tasted like oat-y grossness. I know it may be an acquired taste, but it was too gross the first time for me to want to try it again.

Genmai cha is one of my favorite green teas. The first time I tried it, I was unsure if I would like it because it is so different. But, once my sample ran out, I found myself constantly craving this tea! The aroma is amazing. I have found that this tea can turn bitter when over steeped, so be extremely careful not to steep it a second over two minutes!

Genmai cha is my favorite green tea and, indeed, my favorite tea. I like the toasted, almost nutty flavor the rice lends the slight bitterness of green tea. Adagio's version is excellent and definitely a green that I reach for regularly (I'm about to make a mug now, for example!). However, it's not the best genmai cha I've ever tried. No matter how I brew it (I've tried both under and over 5 minutes), I'm not getting the full robustness of the green that I crave, which makes this just a bit too much on the ricey side, which I could see working against people who have never tried and are wary of the blend (you shouldn't be, by the way. it's the perfect tea!). Still, definitely something I'll restock on when my 4oz bag runs out. I also love that this tea is part of the Roots program. Masuda Yoshio should be very proud of his farm.

This tea is so malty and delicious that it is kind of hard not to snack on a pinch of the dry tea leaves and toasted rice while preparing the tea. And the tiny popcorn kernels - while not strictly traditional, I'm sure - are adorable! What can I say, I'm a sucker for cute presentation. :oD

★★★★★

I really like this tea. An example of a tea that you cannot get in a tea bag at a grocery store. Has a nice nutty taste.

The smell may be off-putting initially, but the taste is pretty enjoyable. It's definitely not quite like other green tea. The rice gives a very different taste. I genuinely enjoyed it and will likely order more sometime.

★★★★★

This is a savory tea, and the rice flavor comes through strongly, which I enjoy immensely. It's a good pick for guests and people who don't drink a lot of tea. when I have a pot on for friends, we tend to go through cup after cup. It's also a good regular tea to brew. the soft flavor isn't one that you can get tired of quickly, and it's filling enough to help me stave off snacking.

Genmai Cha doesn't store well after brewing, losing its vivid green-yellow color to go brown within a couple hours, and its flavor along with it. It can be re-infused well, though, so there's nothing to stop you from just making a fresh pot. I like to give it a little less time to brew, as it can get grassy fairly quickly, which ruins an otherwise mellow flavor. And you can get away with the water being a little hotter than optimal, making this an easy tea to brew in a pinch, so long as you keep an eye on it.

I've bought Genmai Cha from other places, but Adagio's is the most mellow, cohesive flavor I've had. Others will have too little rice, leaving the tea flavor to overpower it. I was very happy to get back to Adagio after trying other brands.

All in all, there's a reason that this is one of my favorites, and the one that my friends and family ask for the most. It's a fine addition to any collection, and you may be surprised by how often you find yourself brewing another cup!

The green tea doesn't come out as strong, but the smokey rice flavor is wonderful. It has a very nice kick to it without being too strong.

I delight in the fact that there's actual popcorn pieces in the bag.

★★★☆☆

Smells good, but I didn't really like the savory taste of the tea. I purchased this on a whim to try something new, and I learned this really isn't for me. Sweet tea drinkers: be cautious, Savory tea drinkers: this is right up your alley.

The tea was incredible--historical and wise. I was struck by how honest it tasted. It truly is a People's Tea.

This green tea has fluffed rice in it which gives the tea such an awesome flavor. If steeped too long, it can come out tasting bitter, but otherwise a delicious tea.

I was excited to try this one. like the toasted flavor.. very different from other genmai cha teas i have had.

★★★★★

The popped rice really adds great flavor to this tea. The green tea is rich and fresh tasting. then the rice adds a nutty, toasty - almost smokey - flavor. It also smells amazing. I've also mixed this with white peony tea and a little honey for fantastic results :D

Delicious smell. I especially enjoyed the toasted rice.

★★★★☆

Not a tea I'd want to drink all the time, but it's a nice one to have for something different here and there.

★★★★★

This is my go to green tea when I want something simple to unwind. Really love the nice nutty flavor from the toasted rice, and it helps tone down the vegetal notes of the green.

A great Japanese tea with the ,to be expected, vegetable flavor of the tea. But with an added flavor reminiscent of popcorn.

★★★★★

I've always wanted a more 'savory' tea, and Genmai Cha is it.

★★★★★

I have been excited to try this tea since I first learned about it. I was worried about the nuttiness being too strong, and the tea flavor to be too light. But instead of being disappointed I was pleasantly surprised to find that the nuttiness gives a fresh release from the stereotypical taste of a green tea. Though the nuttiness is strong, it doesn't taste bad at all. I will definitely buy this again.

OMG I think this is definitely my favorite tea from Adagio by far and from anyone else lol. I have been drinking tea all my life and rarely does one pop out like this one. So nutty and different. This is not for people who don't like popcorn taste though because this definitely has a strong popcorn taste, but I LOVE it. Very unique flavor!

I knew the green tea at our favorite local sushi place was not the standard fare, but it was not until I brewed a cup of this variety that I realized they were one and the same. I love the unique, toasty flavor and distinct lack of traditional green tea astringency. A new favorite, for sure... and one I'm happy to now call by name!

After living in Japan for 3 years of my life, I've been on the lookout for a great genmai cha. This is it!

This is the perfect tea for anyone looking for something a little out of the ordinary. It has a mild, toasty flavor that not too overpowering, but is still very unique. This is one I would definitely recommend to family and friends.

★★★★☆

You can really taste the toasted rice in this tea. I am a fan of genmai cha and can say this one is definitely better than store bought teas. One warning, do not steep this too long or it gets bitter which is common with green tea.

Whatever you do, do not oversteep this one. Set a timer if you have to. I let it sit too long once and the cup was the most bitter, horrible cup of tea I've ever tasted. Steeped at a low temp for the amount of time suggested, though, it tastes great. Reminds me of a rice cake! Not your usual tea.

★★★★☆

Very strong flavour of toasted rice - very strongly resembles tea served at most traditional Japanese restaurants.

★★★★★

What a remarkable combination. After drinking this, it is obvious: Japanese green tea and toasted rice are meant to be together. Incredibly easy to drink, and very inviting.

It tasted exactly as I expected, a roasted popcorn kind of taste. Since I have a sweet tooth, I used sweetener and it brought out the flavor in a very nice way, kind of like candy coated popcorn. No bitter aftertaste. Recommended!

★★★★★

I have tried other brands of genmai cha, and I feel Adagio's version is among the best. It has a bit more of the wonderful nutty/rice taste than I am used to and I like it. I love the blending of tea and the puffed rice flavor. Reminds me of cereal in a way, and helps curb a carb craving if you need it! Not a mug to rush, this is a tea I save for quieter moments to fully enjoy!

★★★★☆

I really like the popcorn taste, I won't get tired of this one.

★★★★☆

Really interesting. Very different from the green teas I'm used to. Very toasty and vegetal.

★★★★☆

I love the rich toasted flavor of this one, and it smells absolutely amazing. I didn't find it grassy, just rich and comforting.

This tea had a great flavor and I look forward to having more of it in the future.

★★★★★

It's ridiculous how fast I fell in love with this tea. The smoky smell of popped rice and subtle green tea absolutely rock my socks. If you're at all a fan of the green variety, you MUST try this one!

★★★★★

This is an incredibly satisfying tea. It's light and smokey, but there is something about the aroma and taste that makes it feel more substantial. This is certainly one of my favorite teas.

★★★★★

This tea has a unique popcorn flavor that I just love. I have ordered it time and time again and am never disappointed!
