Wow, this was a surprise. I saw the bits of popped rice add a subtle smokey flavor. The 'green' is a bit strong for me. I am rather new to real green tea, but I did enjoy this tea.
Classic Japanese green tea, blended with toasted, popped rice. Warm, nutty with a lovely savory and hearty quality.

This is a very interesting tea. Not something I would recommend to a novice, but very yummy and satisfying. The tiny little rice popcorns are adorable too!
Still on the fence about this one. Nice toasty flavor with a hint of grassiness. A bit like drinking a cup of popcorn.
Delicious, somewhat sweet, roasted flavor. Is somewhat light on the tea leaves but makes a great cup. This is not an everyday tea for me, I have to be in the mood for that roasted rice flavor. On a side note, a co-worker commented that it made my office smell like rice cakes.
This is hands-down my favorite green. The rice flavor with the subtle grassiness is just perfect when I'm in the mood for a savory tea. This is really not for everyone though. I'm so excited about this tea that I've made all of my friends and family try it, but almost everyone hated it. Therefore, I would suggest ordering just a sample of it first if you've never tried a tea like this.
This is one of my favorite teas. my go-to tea to have with an Asian-style meal. It has a full and slightly nutty taste.
I like this as an everyday sort of tea. Very savory for a green, at least in my experience. The rice and popcorn flavor is pretty pronounced, which can be great but might be a turn-off for some.
This Genmaicha is pretty brilliant. I loved it. ds
This is my current daily morning cup. I like the addition of the toasted rice, it adds an extra something to the standard green tea. I stole an idea from another tea seller and mixed in matcha powder with my genmai cha, this brings it up another level.
If you want popped rice flavor in a cup, this is the perfect tea for you. Very warm, very soothing, but definitely with a very distinctive taste.
I've loved Genmai-cha ever since it was first served to me at a local sushi place years ago. This Genmai is really nice, drinkable, ricey. Excellent with made-at-home sushi/temaki or light fish dishes. This is another tea on my 'sip any time of day' list and it's one of the better Genmai's I've tried. Definitely on my re-order list.
The classic toasty green tea, reminiscent of the tea served in a lot of asian restaurants. I love the twist thrown in by the addition of popcorn. This is a great green for those who may not love the full on grassy flavor of green tea.
This one is very different. It's really interesting, but in a good way. absolutely delish!
Smells superb, both dry and brewed. This version has a little more rice in it than I'm used to, but I just sifted in some extra green tea to even out the flavour, and it got pretty perfect.
Love the smell. Great taste. Very savory with a popcorn/popped rice taste. genmaicha and Matcha genmaicha are my favorite teas. This genmaicha in particular is more of a toasty flavor and less of a umami green tea leave flavor than I am used to but its still very good.
I'm not actually a huge fan of green teas (I got this as a gift), so I gave the sample to a friend, and she really enjoyed it.
My mom and I both have very different tastes in teas. She likes basic black and green teas with little to no flavoring, while I like a more dynamic blend of teas and flavors. This is perhaps one of the few teas that appeals to both of us. The toastiness adds flavor and makes it a little more dynamic than a plain green tea, and goes well with food, yet it isn't too much flavoring for my mom.
Perfect! I have seen genmai cha at Asian supermarkets for 3.99 for 4 ounces. I thought I had the system beat! Adagio's is noticeably flavorful. Is it the Sencha Overture mixed with puffed and toasted rice? If so, worth the price difference.
I'm usually a black tea person, but green tea is a nice treat later in the day. I love the popcorn-like flavor of this tea and it tastes wonderful after a large meal.
My favorite tea - great with food or on it's own.
This is the first genmai cha that I have tried and I definitely like it. It smells strongly of toasted rice / popcorn, not at all like a traditional green tea. It is much heavier than a typical green tea, almost like drinking a soup broth but not nearly as thick as that.
I can easily get two or three steepings out of it too. I typically add about 30 seconds to each successive steeping and the results are fantastic.
I really like this tea. It has a bit of a brothy-popcorn flavor.
I really enjoy the toasty, savory flavor of the rice (without the carbs!) This makes a very nice snack tea.
I brewed this as suggested on the bag, and while the smell was amazing.. I was saddened to taste the tea. Honestly, it was like drinking hot water. I so wish it tasted the way it smells.
My absolute favorite green tea of all time. I had originally received this tea in a sampler set, and didn't think I'd much care for it. I tried it and fell in love. Then immediately ordered more. There's something very comforting about this tea, and I can't get enough of the toasted flavor the popped rice adds. I go through so much, I'll need to reorder soon!
Very, very unique tea, assuredly because of the rice. Its taste is almost closer to that of a soup, because of it. This isn't to say genmai cha is bad, however, it's really a good tea.
It's a good tea, the toasted rice really pop out, but I still prefer dragonwell over this tea. But still will enjoy this tea if dragonwell runs out.
A strong and aromatic roasted character that blends very well with a subtle green tea flavor. Nicely balanced.
Distinctive in aroma, markedly unique in taste, genmai cha is a tea I have found myself returning to for an afternoon sip or a post-lunch drink. I've turned quite a few people on to this tea at work :)
The popped rice gives it taste with echoes of grain, similar to green rooibos, without losing the body of the green tea itself.
I also found this tea was very effective at helping to curb my appetite and keep me from buying vending machine junk food between classes. I doubly recommend this tea for those that want to cut back a little, like myself.
Very enjoyable green tea that reminds me of some of my favorite sushi places. Highly quaffable.
Unusual but delicious. I prefer it to gunpowder because I really like that toasty background. Great with honey.
an awesome, smoky, nutty flavored green. i love to have this with milk or dark chocolate bar...
I'd never had green tea before and the Genmai Cha seemed like an interesting one to try. The popped rice makes it smell and taste like cereal. It's not a bad thing, but it's not exactly a good thing either.
Genmai cha is my go-to tea to accompany meals, this has a strong enough flavor and nice enough aroma to serve in that capacity nicely.
The puffed rice gives it a strange aroma, but an interesting nutty flavor. It's otherwise what I'd expect from a light green tea.
The toasty flavor is good, but I wasn't in love with the popcorn taste. It is definitely not a subtle tea.
I am not a big fan of this tea. I like the fruity teas and this just was not my cup of tea.
Amazingly flavorful! There are also so many rice puffs in the tea. The tea leaves have a lot of savory and bright flavor. It really makes my tummy feel nice too!
I have tried many other companies for their version of Genmaicha tea and found Adagio to always come out on top. Best value and flavor. It really tastes like drinking some delicious cereal. Very soothing after dinner and helps settle the stomach. The sales lady told me you can even eat the actual tea after it's done brewing, mixed with a little soy sauce and sprinkled with a few sesame seeds! How cool is that! Yum.
one of the best green teas I've ever had. Rice makes it taste like what you get at high-end restaurants.
My favorite green tea, it tastes perfect and is easy to make.
As expected, a delicious genmai cha. The toasty, nutty flavors really mellow out the heavy grass notes that a lot of green teas carry.
I was curious to try this one since it looked and sounded so unique and I have to say, I was a little surprised I loved it so much! I didn't get any of the popcorn flavor that other people have noticed. The rice flavor is there, warm and toasty, with the seaweed/nori notes from the tea. My husband commented that it tastes like sushi, and that's pretty accurate. It's a savory cup, but my new favorite green. This one is definitely worth picking up a sample.
I still have a lot left over, but I'm liking it. You have to play around with the brewing instructions though, or you'll get a watery tea.
One of the best genmai-cha I have ever had. the green tea is excellent and easily stands up to the full, never-flat taste of the toasted rice. A wonderful blend and an excellent tea. The brillant green tea mellows to a wonderful golden color - this one shines in a clear mug! Can be a little brittle - there is always a lot of fines in the bottom of the jar.One of my very favorites
This is one of my favorite teas. It was a little strange at first, but I have come to absolutely love it. I have often said that it tastes like both a drink and a snack. .) Also, although I'm certain it's an abomination in the tea world, I also like this tea iced in the summer. It reminds me a little bit of mugicha! (Which I very much wish was offered here!!)
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
A very savory green tea. The roasted rice really adds a nice balance to the usual slight bitterness of green tea, and definitely adds a nuttiness to it. As others have warned, be careful not to steep it too long, or else the flavor becomes too 'toasty' and unfavorable.
Do. Not. Oversteep. I did my first time, and the roasted flavour was just too strong for me to enjoy it. I brewed it again a little later and made sure to pour it out a little early. It was much better. I do have to sweeten it to enjoy it though.
I bought a sample of this tea as an experiment, just to see if I liked it. I don't hate it. As a lover of very vegetal greens I knew I was trying something very different. I really almost wish it had a smokey flavour to it. As it is I lump it into the category I place lapsang souchong and golden spring.
