I am not a big fan of green tea. I prefer the mild, less vegetal green teas that remind me of Asian noodle houses. I grew fairly curious of genmaicha after learning it's history and was hopeful. It did not disappoint. The tea is mild but not bland in flavor with a pleasant, subtle aroma that reminds me of ricecakes, of all things. This is soon to be a favorite in my enormous tea cupboard.

This is my first genmai cha, and it's very interesting. The popped rice flavor really comes through, and the tea is slightly salty. I like it, and it's certainly different from other greens.

★★★★★

This tea is delicious. The toasted rice adds a nutty note that balances out the grassiness that can so often accompany green tea. Two minutes gives a great cup with a lot of flavor, but letting it steep for about four minutes gives it an extremely similar taste to dark roast coffee.

★★★☆☆

I really, really wanted to like this tea. It smells wonderful in the bag, like warm rice krispies. But the taste was not my favorite: more bitter than I was expecting. I'll keep trying, maybe steeping it for less time.

How can you not love a tea that tastes and smells just like puffed wheat cereal? It reminds me of when I was a kid. (And I dumped a lot of sugar on my cereal too!)

One of my favorite teas! Love the nutty flavor of this green tea!

★★★★★

Great. Nice and toasty and comforting. I wish there was a bit more green tea in the tea-to-rice ratio, so I add a little gunpowder when I make it. The toasted and popped rice makes for a nice afternoon treat. I steep a bit less than two minutes because at two minutes it tends to taste bitter.

I bought this more for the novelty and not for the taste, and thus wasn't too terribly disappointed when I found that it just was too... nutty would maybe be the word? Not exactly what I like in my tea.

★★★★★

Very very delicious. This is one of my favorite teas! It has a great roasty flavor from the rice. Really starts my day off right.

★★★★☆

I liked the true flavor of this tea. I will reorder.

Update: Coming back for more of this after changing the way I? was brewing. Typically I brew Genmaicha for longer but if you brew this for just 2 minutes it is much better.
...
First of all, I have much respect for Yoshio san.
Genmaicha is one of my favorite drinks.
(I'm a purist and only drink Espresso, Tea, Teasans and water.)
Roasted Asian teas are something I find delicious.
This blend however does not have enough roasted flavor for my tastes. A bit more 'brown' flavor and it would be great.

Pleasantly surprised, I used to shop Teavana but their prices are absolutely ludicrous so I try Argo and was not happy with their tea. So I took a gamble and order from Adagio, well you have a life long customer shipping and package and tea everything is top notch in my book. Very happy with the quality and quantity where others fail.

This is by far my favorite green tea. The roasted brown rice gives it a unique nutty taste. Genmai Cha is my go-to green tea of choice.

★★★★★

A beautifully smooth tea. It tastes like liquid popcorn. Yum!

I don't know if it's the little bits of popcorn, but it has sort of a strange taste to it.. Definitely not the genmai cha I'm used to..

★★★★★

Ok, so I'm going to be completely honest...if someone asked me to describe the flavor of this tea, I would say 'toasted spinach water.' NOW, having said that, I must relay that I am completely addicted to this tea! My boyfriend (who loves beer and coffee) tried it and said 'I really like that and I don't know why...' So, I would suggest going into the store for a taste or sample before buying a whole bag/box...we love it but it may not be for everyone...

I did not like this tea. I was expecting more of a nutty flavor. Instead it tasted like burnt rice. I can drink it but it was def not very enjoyable.

A pleasant genmaicha! Surprisingly a bit naturally sweet.

Absolutely one of my favorite 'plain' green teas of all time. Toasty and hearty and simple.

A fantastic green tea. I'd recommend this to anyone, especially those new to tea!

★★★★★

Really nice, savory green tea. I put a bit too much in brewing it the first time, and it turned out bitter, but second time I just followed the instructions, and it was great!

This was an ok tea for me. I think I just have to practice steeping times a little more with this one. When steeped, the smell was a little strange for me, but it was better when I drank it. Still, not a favorite for me.

I perfer this in the morning along with my breakfast. It remains me of some cereal i use to love.

★★★★★

I was worried by the smell and even the look of it, but the taste is amazing. This is a really smooth tea with a nice hint of the toasted rice. The green tea itself compliments the rice well. I strongly recommend this and it will become one of my go to teas.

★★★★☆

This is generally not a tea I would chose but I have really wanted to branch out and try new things. This is a wonderfully different kind of tea. To me, tea is normally sweet, fruity or floral. This is definitely savory. I think it's a perfect option for when I'm craving snacks. It's brothy and smooth. Great alternative to the norm. I brewed as per packet instructions and the flavors turned out beautifully.

With it's popcorn aroma, this inexpensive brew makes a great breakfast tea and pairs well with, say, an english muffin. Love it.

★★★★★

Genmaicha is one of my favorite teas, and Adagio's is pretty great. Just be careful not to brew it too hot or too long.

★★★★★

An awesome flavor. Super unique, not like other green teas. You can definitely taste the grassiness but it's balanced out nicely by the rice.

★★★★★

Wonderful flavor. The rice keeps it from being too grassy. I normally stay away from green teas but this one I definitely will be getting more of.

★★★★★

This is my favorite style of tea. The tea that they sell here at Adaigo is great. A personal favorite!

★★★★★

I'm always a bit leery of green tea do to the astringent taste after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did! It has a nice earthy taste with a very light taste of toasted rice and popcorn. The combination works very well together to even each flavor out and give the whole taste a very nice harmony. The trick is not to over brew it! A min seems to be the perfect amount of time!

My favorite genmai cha from over half a dozen websites. This is truly the best quality genmai chi out there.

★★★☆☆

This was my first time trying this tea. I liked the green tea flavor but the toasted rice made me feel like I was drinking a rice cake. Probably a great tea if you like that but it didn't suit me.

★★★★☆

I got a sample of this just because it sounded very interesting, even though I didn't expect to like it. Sure enough, I wasn't big on the toasted rice taste of it, but if it sounds good to you, get it! It's a fun tea (looks just like it is pictured), and the flavor is nice and strong. it's just not my personal flavor preference. I gave it to my Mom instead.

★★★★★

I love this tea. It tastes warm and toasty, and is awesome for drinking on cold days while waiting for the train. I suspect this might be a love-it-or-hate-it tea, but I'm definitely team love it. Plus the short steeping time means you can re-use the leaves a couple of times without significant flavor loss (oh but oversteeping can leave it tasting funny).

One of my favorite green teas and my go to when I want something plain to drink. Simple, earthy and nutty, thanks to the toasted rice and the odd bits of popcorn in the mix. A great introduction to new tea drinkers or anyone who is just starting to sample green tea.

This is a tea very unlike others I've had. There's a distinct popcorn flavor. I think the more I sip the more I like it.

Love this one. Smells great and love the roasted nutty flavor.

★★★★★

This is the first genmai cha I've ever had. I have to be honest. I was skeptical and very nervous about ever trying it. But reading the review from someone I am friends with on here changed my mind, so I grabbed a sample. It was actually a wonderful tea. Japanese green teas are very finicky, but the rice cut the astringency of the sencha. This tea is really lovely and well-balanced. The rice adds just a hit of toasty flavor, which is very pleasant. I'd absolutely reorder this tea!

When I was a kid I was taught to pour green tea into my bowl of rice after I was done eating to gather up the remaining grains and to drink it. This reminds me so much of that. The rice gives the drink a nice toasted flavor that blends wonderfully with the sencha

★★★★★

One of my favorite teas. It has a slight toasted rice flavor.

★★★★★

I put two tea spoons into the tea set and let it set in the hot water for at least five mins, it tastes better than the one that came in a tea bag.

★★★★★

Very unique and nutty, I'm trying to get into Japanese green teas and this one is very nice to start with.

★★★★★

Very light, toasty, and warming. A new favorite for winter days!

★★★★★

Love it - the toasted rice / unflavored popcorn makes this a gorgeous savoury tea that's perfect when you're not in the mood for tea that reminds you of anything remotely sweet. Mellow and unpretentious. Hard to over-brew, too.

★★★★☆

I did not expect the rice flavor to be so pronounced. After I got used to that though, I enjoyed the tea overall. Had a very earthy wheat flavor and when you add just a bit of honey, it's absolutely delicious. On its own, it's like dinner in a cup. When you add honey though, it adds a whole new dimension of flavor. Overall, I really enjoyed this tea and its propensity to cooperate with other flavors.

I really liked this tea, it has a unique flavor that made me want more.

★★★☆☆

It starts with a super strong toasted rice odor and taste, but the tea, which smells wonderful in the bag, takes its turn in the finish. Not bad, but not my favorite genmaicha.
