This wasn't really my thing. The toasted rice just detracts from the green tea in my opinion. It's drinkable, but not the ooo ahh tea experience that I like to have.
Classic Japanese green tea, blended with toasted, popped rice. Warm, nutty with a lovely savory and hearty quality.

Fascinating and interesting tea. Probably the most interesting tea I've tried. The rice deepens the earthy flavor resulting in a savory cup.
Apparently Im not much of a cha person. It was ok, but I don't know that I would order it again.
I really like this tea. The roasted rice brings an exciting smell and a robust flavor. I enjoy drinking this in the late morning or after lunch at work.
I think I steeped this wrong (too hot?) because it smelled like burning rubber when I tried to drink it. Steeping at a lower temp helps but now all I can think about is burnt rubber. I will give it some space and try it again in a while.
Stands up really well to repeated steeping, and tastes so roasty and good!
Best genmaicha I've had that wasn't purchased directly from Japan. The flavor is a bit more genmai than cha, but still a good tea. Rich toasted grain flavor with a bit of that classic vegetal sencha flavor hanging out in the background. No bitterness or astringency. I found this tea brewed best at about one gram per ounce water, 185 F, one minute for the first infusion. Good for 3-4 infusions.
I really love genmai cha, but for some reason adagio's version was not as good as I remember it. I will adjust the way I brew it to check if its me and not the tea, but my initial impression was kind of meh. Not toasty enough.
I wasn't sure about this tea when I decided to try it, but hooo boy, those nerves went away as SOON as I smelled this tea in the bag! It's definitely unusual, but I really enjoyed the way the flavors of the tea and the rice intermingled, and how... substantial, I think would be the right word, this tea is. It's complex and rich, and almost filling.
The taste of roasted rice is front and center in Adagio's version.
One of my favorite teas. The Adagio version is the best I've find.
Enjoyable to watch as it steeps, the brown and white popped rice floating on top. It smells a bit like popcorn, which is fun. The color is a festive bright yellow. While the nutty flavor is nice, it lacks a satisfying green tea flavor. I prefer hojicha, or wish for a more assertive green tea in the blend.
The tea was light and the flavor of the it was really great. The tea is great for me sometimes when I want to relax at the end of the day.
This tea brings me back to Japanese garden of San Francisco.
Very good tea. Different than regular green but in a good way
The toasted rice adds a great roasted flavor that adds sweetness to the tea.
I have always loved genmai cha from the first time I tasted it, and the Adagio version has not let me down. From the lovely aroma, to the nutty taste, genmai cha is really one of my favorite green teas. For those used to the typically grassy taste of most greens, getting used to it might take a bit, but I personally love it.
This tea is absolutely amazing. I Wasn't prepare for the amazing smell that greeted my nose when I first added the water to the leaves. The tea unbrewed has a pretty common smell of green tea. Not overpowering and pleasant. The instant water is added though the aroma pops. To me I get sesame seed oil, seaweed snacks and popcorn. The taste is exactly the same. The popped rice really gives off a popcorn taste and adds that hint of sesame to the tea. This is definitely a savory tea that might not do to well with sugar.
Very nice tea. Nice roasted flavor. I don't tast a 'popcorn' taste as others mentioned. I like that it didn't leave me with dry mouth as some green teas do. My mother, on the other hand, did not like it at all. She threw it out. I guess it's just a matter of taste. AS for me, I've been drinking it every day. I can resteep my little tea infuser with this tea in it about three times. Ofcourse the last cup is weaker but still good, I don't want to waste any of this I really enjoy it.
The absolute best genmai cha ... EVER. Nothing else comes close. The second cup is almost as wonderful as the first (2.5 minutes for the second cup).
I tried this after having a sample of the Tea Pigs Popcorn tea, and frankly I like this a lot more.
I adore genmai cha for the singular reasoning that i get to eat the popped rice (call me weird, but after they've steeped for just a few minutes they puff up with the water intake and become very nice and cozy). Nonetheless, this is a great cozy tea, that should definitely be brewed loose (as should all teas because tea looks so cool when it's brewing, but i digress), that's not sweet, or really tea like, but it's perfect for a cold winter day spent curled up under a cozy blanket.
This one was a little too savory for my taste. Great quality...just not the right flavor for somebody who likes lighter, sweeter teas.
I love genmai cha, and while I've read some mixed reviews for Adagio's blend, my order's been fantastic.
Rice in tea? Sounded insane to me, but I thought I'd try it anyway. This tea is AMAZING. The after-taste reminded me of puffed rice or rice cakes-both I love very much flavor wise. Great tea in the morning when I'm at work instead of loading up on caffeine.
LOVE this tea! The rice and green tea make this a STUNNINGLY scrumptious tea! This is one of my favorite teas to pull out and amuse the muggles... as they stare at the oddity of the toasted and popped rices.
Another of my favorites. This tea always puts me at ease after a stressful day.
If you like popcorn you will love this tea. It is very nutty and tastes, in my opinion, like kettle cooked popcorn. Don't expect this to really taste like your standard green tea because it doesn't, but it tastes super delicious none the less.
My absolute favorite of the green teas. Love the nutty flavor.
This tea was A-MAZING! I wasn't too sure about it when I saw it, so I just bought a sample size, but it looks like I'll definitely be coming back for a full size!! This tea is so different and smells like rice cakes as it's brewing. It doesn't have a grassy taste to it like a lot of green tea does, and the popped rice gives it a really nice, almost smoky flavor. I'll definitely be getting more soon!
This is one of my many favorites! The nuttiness and the bold green tea flavor are perfect!
Nice and toasty, along with a good green tea flavor.
I drank mine iced, but anticipate it being even better hot, and really enjoyed it. You can definitely taste the rice but it doesn't overpower the rest of the tea. I definitely plan on getting this again.
When I first began drinking this tea, back in 2006, I didn't like it at all. Oddly enough, a local Chinese restaurant I go to serves the genmai cha as their standard green tea and I started to really enjoy drinking it and now this has become one of my favorite tea's and I am very happy to change my rating of 'awful' to 'great'.
Not great but diffidently a unique tea. Every tea connoisseur must try.
The added taste of popcorn didn't interfere with the tea too much. It was a nice savory cup of green tea.
I love genmai cha and this is a good one. A rather large popped rice to tea leaves ratio, but the taste is fantastic. If you're curious, genmai cha has a really unique taste and I would suggest picking up a sample just for grins.
This was a surprise addition to my order, that I did not expect, but it was pleasant to try.
I'm kind of iffy on this one. Not great, not bad. I just don't know that I was 100 in the mood for it when I tried it. It had an odd lingering aftertaste. I'm not sure that it was something that I'd like too often.
Method: Brewed in a Kyusu with .75 grams per ounce of water.
Steeping times: 1 min, 1.25 min, 1.5 min, etc...
This is a very nice tea. It has the grassiness that I'd expect of a Japanese green, but with a more robust flavor given by the rice. It's a hearty tea with a hearty aroma. I'm glad I had this while we were snowed in. :)
Nice tasty tea that is good for either drinking in the morning or evening.
Not exactly my favourite flavours, but definitely something to experience. In the bag it smelled very grassy with a hint of nuttiness. While steeping, I could really smell the rice. It had a slightly seaweed taste, which I am not a fan of. But still a quality tea for one who enjoys such a flavour profile.
I first had this type of tea at a friend's house, but the place he ordered from doesn't ship to the US. This tea tasted exactly like it!
A very solid genmai tea that is a regular brew for work. It is a very forgiving tea and is great in all situations.
Reminds me of Japanese restaurant tea. I liked it, probably only drink it when the craving hits.
Talk about having a cup of liquid cereal! This tea is awesome! It just taste great with some honey and milk. Seriously taste like cereal
Really good, nice and smooth and toasty, although the rice can get a little overpowering towards the end of the bag.
A really nicely, medium-deep roasted flavor that's pretty forgiving but I confess that my favorite thing about this is how gorgeous it looks. I like pulling it out during late Fall for the slightly heavier flavors and because I like to pretend plus the popcorn looks like snowflake flowers against fall foliage.
This tea is ok. It lacks some of the more vegetal and slightly sweet flavor I'm used to in a genmai cha. Not bad overall, but I've had better.
It reminds me of Honey Smacks. Odd how many of Adagio's teas remind me of breakfast cereals.
