I had previously tried a sample of this that I had enjoyed, but I found my cup from this purchase to be somewhat bitter and unpleasant despite following the steeping instructions. I won t be finishing the bag.

This is my standard morning tea and what I turn to throughout the day to keep me going. I love all kinds of tea, but strong black tea is hard on my stomach. Genmai cha has flavor without the harshness. three teaspoons, can re-steep two times

Very strong aroma and taste of popped rice (similar to popcorn). Loving this as a distraction from snacking and I think I could drink it nearly every day for this purpose. Could see the unique flavor not being a daily favorite for most, but well worth a sample to find out.

I was surprised that the popped rice aroma was so strong in this tea. I expected subtle notes of toasted rice, but this exceeded my expectations greatly. The popcorn-like rice taste is the star of the show, with the vegetal flavors from the sencha enhancing the warm earthy notes from the popped rice. It has a mild to medium astringency that also contrasts nicely with the rice. This one has made it onto my favorites list.

Great balance of green tea with toasted rice. My favorite green tea and can be used for multiple steeps.

In my head I was envisioning a tea that I would not like in this one, I figured wet popcorn sounds gross in tea, and it was only when I got a packet in a sampler box that I discovered a new favorite. THIS IS NOT A SWEET TEA. The flavor profile on this is very much a savory tea, it has a quality to it that I have never had in a tea before (likely to do with the added popcorn/puffed rice pieces), and for this it creates something like a vegetal meal like quality, it is almost more that of a soup than a tea. You get a really earthy green tea with a rice-dish type element, and it feels very plain but that in this case, the plainness is what is best about it. This tea stands really strong alone, and is very much not a frilly or flavored tea, rather it is what it is, take it or leave it. Luckily I am not a fan of overly sweet teas, and have even been into herbed teas lately (think basil, rosemary, etc) so for me this one really spoke to me. From a sample, I went straight into ordering a pound of this, and I am hoping I can keep it from going stale on me, that is my only concern since I know how quickly a bag of popcorn can go stale, so we will see how this goes. I also ordered another Genmai Cha from another company just to compare and make sure I wasn t wrong about my newfound love for this tea, and it was a winning one too, so if I continue to enjoy this one as much as I do, I may pay more to get it in smaller bags (I do not like wasting packaging or tea funds), but it all depends on how long the popcorn stays decent I feel like. If you like sweet or richly flavored teas, this will likely not be your thing, but if you enjoy more plain, tea-forward, umami-esque vegetal teas, this will likely be your cup of tea, too. Also, people were complaining that it is not good for resteeping, but I really beg to differ, as you resteep, the popcorn begins to dissolve, and you get a different flavor out of each cup. I have resteeped 2-3 times on average, and each time you really do get a different cup of tea, so the cost of this one gets mitigated a bit if you are able to get a good resteep or two out of each cup.

Brewed up very pale--I was worried it would taste weak. No such trouble, though! It's much heartier than it looks. I enjoyed the toasty rice flavor, and the touch of leafiness from the tea.

It tastes just like a rice crispy treat when I add sugar and the first sip had a bit of a grassy taste but the rest of the cup was pure bliss. It had become my favorite tea ever.

Love this tea! This has a roasty, full taste, with a great balance between the green tea and five flavors. Genmaicha is a staple in our household!

I wanted to like this tea, but it tasted grassy, and instead of a pleasant nutty flavor, the taste of the toasted rice reminded me of soggy popcorn.

Wow! This cup really exceeded expectations. Such a warm, nutty, roasty flavor. So perfect for cozying up in fall, or having with a meal. A little hearty and savory. A great way to get into green tea for beginners. I will definitely have this around as a staple green! Love it so much.

Lots of people like Genmai Cha but I did not care for it at all, the rice and tea flavors just seemed a weird combination to me.

Perfect little blend of roasted rice, and grass green flavor! I actually steep this right before boiling when the 'water becomes silent'. let sit for one minute then pour. Let steep for 2 minutes. This allows for the third layer to open fully. Right before the greens turn, and become bitter from too much stress. I will then steep again for two minutes to squeeze the last vitality the tea leaves have to offer. :)

If I was only able to drink one tea for the rest of my life it would be Genmai Cha. Adagio's version is the perfect amount of Japanese green tea and the right balance of toasted rice that doesn't overwhelm the tea flavor. Not too strong or weak. Nicely vegetal without being as savory as a Gyokuro. Good for many infusions if not over steeped. I up the initial infusion time by 30 seconds for subsequent infusions.

deliciously toasty. as soon as it started to feel like autumn here, I remembered this tea & realized I hadn't had any in a while, and this an excellent take on it. It's light and malty and savory and soothing like rice krispies.

What a different flavor for a green tea! I was not sure I'd like this, but it is one of my favorites. Has that subtle taste of toasted rice or popcorn, just enough to add some distinction to this tea.

Very strong scent of roasted grain upon opening. Liquor is a vibrant and slightly alarming shade of green. Tea feels hearty and robust without being too heavy on the senses. Excellent on cold, raw, damp days, or when one has a head cold. Can only be steeped once. STRONGLY recommended as a household medicine/comfort for the winter months.

I've tried this iced with a splash of vanilla, and it's delicious. The flavor is on the lighter side, but the rice gives it a nice richness.

I have been long on a search for the kind of tea that is served at Asian restaurants and have finally discovered Genmai Cha. I've sampled some from various sources, but I found myself coming back to Adagio's because I really like the malty balance brought by the popcorn pieces in the tea blend!

I love genmai cha <3 it's a warm, lightly nutty taste and kinda feels like being home when you get a nice tall mug. which is mostly strange because i didn't know you could drink tea in any way except American Southern Sweet Tea style until I was probably thirteen? but yes, very satisfying and good for chilly days or times you're feeling just a little melancholy.
