A wonderful afternoon tea for my sweet tooth, which strikes every day without fail!
A bit bitter but still smooth. Very good tea, I think I prefer to add it to others rather then drink it by itself. Pairs well with honey.
Tastes like a treat. A nice hot cocoa alternative for me in the winter.
I really enjoyed this tea. It's full bodied and easy to have the stronger tea I prefer. This would be great with a dash of milk.
Delightful mixture of chocolate and caramel. You might not usually think of those two as a good choice for a breakfast tea, but I do enjoy starting the week on a sweet note!
I can taste the strong caramel mix with vanilla together with a coco deliciousness aftertaste. A friend told me to add more Tiger Eye to get a stronger flavor. (It did the job perfectly) I also add a little bit of Chocolate and Caramel sauce, to bring out the craziness of flavors to make a fabulous dessert tea.
I had this in the black tea sampler and really enjoyed it so I was thrilled to see it in the Communitea for this month. I love caramel and then add chocolate and this tea does not disappoint. I would definitely recommend it!
I would love to give this tea a great review but I think that I am drinking it wrong. Everyone seems to love it and I am noticing that they usually make a latte or at least include milk of some kind and sweetener. I have literally never added anything to my teas I have always thought a good tea wouldn’t need it. I may be wrong on that and I will try it again . This purist idea I have may be why I dislike the chocolate flavors. They just taste too “thin” for me.
Fresh from the packet, this tea smells divine. Brewed at 194 for just shy of 3 minutes and found that the chocolate, caramel and vanilla meld with the Ceylon base to make a strong, black tea. Not bitter, just potent. I enjoyed sipping but would not rank as a fave. Cream and sweetener could take this to a whole new level and allow the various flavors to separate and shine.
Update!!! : New Review: I doubled the amount of the tea to steep 3 minutes, and it's Devine. Love, Love, Love, and quadruple the LOVE...did I mention that I love this tea. he he he. When I first tried the blend, I didn't think much of the tea, but years later I now really enjoy stronger with heated milk and sweetener, to make a Tea-Latte. I can really taste the bold rich chocolate, smooth caramel and creamy vanilla to give a candy tasting treat. So, I had to use more tea, then normal to get the flavor, I was looking for. Tiger eye is awesome to blend with, to make Fandom blends.
OLD REVIEW: September 20th 2011: This tiger eye tea was just ok. When I open the bag of tea...BAM!!!...it smelled delicious. When I tried the tea I could very barely taste the chocolate, caramel and vanilla. I used milk and sugar to being out the distinct flavors of the tea. All The flavors of the tea were just faint, and I couldn't tell what flavors I was tasting. If you like flavored black teas that has a hint of flavor, you just might like this tea.
a really, really good tea! silky, caramel-y, chocolatey, you can’t go wrong with any of it. milk and sugar add to the experience
Tasted some caramel, a little chocolate, and a little smokey.
Such a nice tea! The chocolate is so nice <3 Would definitely drink this one again!
2022-02-07 update: This time I chose to steep at 212°F for 3 minutes, as recommended by others in the CommuniTEA. It still turned out great! Complex layers of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and black tea. Just a slight bit lighter and less bold black tea flavors with less astringency. No need for any cream this time!
2021-01-27 CommuniTEA Review: Opening today's CommuniTEA packet revealed scents of rich caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Firing up the kettle, I chose to steep as recommended on the packet, for 5 mins at 212º.
The resulting brew is a dark shade of mahogany and smells of caramel and vanilla.
The opening sip directly presents vanilla first, then unfolds into a toasty caramel. The caramelized flavors are followed by some woody cacao nibs a pungently brisk yet balanced black tea. The finish is free from bitterness and leaves a lingering astringency on the tongue. It leaves you with a desire for another sip of this shifting and banded blend of flavors. Subsequent sips open up and constantly shift and blend into one another as you try and identify all the flavor components. If there is such a thing as chatoyancy in terms of flavor, this is it. Adding cream or milk mutes the briskness and astringency a bit, bringing the caramel and vanilla notes forward.
Overall this tea is a nice brisk and flavorful tea with a shifting blend of compatible flavors. The vanilla, caramel, and cocoa give a varying flavor profile that blends together in a nice way. The black tea can be a bit brisk and astringent when brewed with boiling water for the full 5 minutes. However cream or milk can tame this tiger. If you don't like strong black teas, shorter brewing times or lower temps will also help, as usual.
I could smell the Caramel and Chocolate flavoring when I opened my CommuniTea packet. I cold brewed my tea in the fridge for 8 hours to make it into iced tea and added some Stevia. The smell of the tea after steeping and adding the sweetener smelled very Hop-py to me, like the smell when you tour a microbrewery. I couldn't taste any chocolate or vanilla in the tea, only the hoppy-ish caramel taste. It was decent, but not something I'd reach for again unless it was mixed with some other flavors.
It’s very hard to go wrong with a combination of chocolate and caramel, and adagio does both very well on their own. Together, the flavors compliment each other well. The tea has a complexity with the chocolate keeping the caramel just on the right side of the “burnt” scale. Sweet without being a dessert.
One of my favorites. I love the Smokey-sweet flavor of this tea. I brew this one longer than suggested to make a strong dark tea.
My goodness, what an interesting tea. On its own, it’s not sweet, and I typically don’t add sweetners. The smell when the packet was opened was incredible. Then after a 3 minute steep and a moment for the steam to die down, I took a sip. What’s interesting is that the first thing I tasted was the black tea without much other flavor but a slight hint of something else. Then a moment later, I got the taste of dark chocolate in the back of my mouth, followed by a taste of caramel. What an interesting experience! I’ll still drink it without cream or sugar, as I like to have it in its pure form, and I believe I’ll brew a second cup of this blend!
I over steeped which made it a little bitter on the tail end of each sip. But, I enjoyed this blend immensely regardless.
I can describe this tea with one word - delicious! The creaminess of the vanilla and the slight bitterness of the chocolate blend perfectly with the Ceylon tea. I love this tea on its own and in blends!
I’ll start with being honest and say that I do not like many chocolate teas, but love caramel. This tea has a earthy dark chocolate flavor that is balanced well by the sweetness of caramel and the creaminess of the vanilla. I reach for this tea most when I want something sweet. I like this one strong and really sweet. 90% of the time I drink this as a latte. I use 5g of tea for a 16oz mug, honey or rock sugar, and warm milk. Today I also added a little vanilla cinnamon syrup. So good!! I drop 1 star on this one, because I just don’t like this one much on its own. It has to be blended with other teas or needs to be gussied up with sugar, milk, syrup. Steeped at 195º for 3 mins. Cheers!
Black tea with caramel and slight chocolate taste. As this cooled, I was happier with the taste as the chocolate became almost indiscernible and caramel was prominent.
You can taste chocolate and caramel and vanilla flavor this tea smell amazing. This is a great tea.
This one might be good in blends but on it’s own it does nothing for me. My packet seemed to be missing any of the chocolate profile. It tasted like black tea with a hint of caramel. Not exactly my cuppa.
Chocolate, caramel and vanilla make a great combination.
The caramel, chocolate and vanilla are all very well balanced in this tea, and strong enough to taste decadent without being overpowering
Nice chocolate caramel tea, I felt the need to add oatmilk and sugar but it was yummy!
A delicious tea, I think it would be excellent to blend with too.
My chocolate taste tester gives this a big thumbs up. Added a bit of cream to enhance the 'hot chocolate' feel.
This tea is so tasty! This might be one of the few teas that I have found that actually tastes better than it smells. Don't get me wrong - the smell of caramel and chocolate wafting out of the packet is delicious! But once brewed up, the flavor of the black tea underneath gives the whole cup a stronger, rounder flavor that isn't overwhelmingly sweet. It makes for a very pleasant cup to wake up to first thing in the morning.
If you love caramel I think this tea would be a great choice. I'm not such a fan of caramel and don't have much of a sweet tooth, so it's a little on the sweet side for me. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, though, the chocolate flavors are nice and there's enough black tea astringency to somewhat tame the sweetness. It's nice enough but probably not one I would purchase. I think it would be great blended with something spicy (a chai, maybe?) to tame the sweet caramel, though.
This tea smells great upon opening the packet! After brewing it is a little bitter. On its own, it doesn't stand out as amazing. I do like it in blends though!
This is a tea that is best with cream, and maybe some sugar. I've had this before the communiTea packet and enjoyed it, but I don't think it makes it into my favorites. The caramel is very nice and stands out as the strongest flavor, but the vanilla and chocolate are absolutely present as well. The natural bitterness of black tea helps to highlight the cocoa nibs, in a way that I can understand would be nice if you really like those flavors! That is unfortunately the downside of this tea for me because I tend to be sensitive to bitter tannic flavors. I still like this tea of course, but I think I'd love it if it were an oolong!
Upon my first smell from the packet, I thought this would be a bit more astringent than it is. The caramel and chocolate balance out the flavor nicely, creating a rich brown hue in my cup, almost immediately after adding the water. I recommend a small amount of milk and sugar to really bring out the flavors.
This is exactly as advertised, a scrumptious blend of caramel and chocolate. As I often find with Adagio’s flavored blacks, I could have used MORE flavor, but I did still enjoy this cup. Be careful to brew at a lower temp and time to tame the bitterness that can occur with this Ceylon. It’s critical. I’ve had Tiger Eye in blends before, where I think it works best, but never solo, so it was fun getting to try it on its own. I drank the first cup with some Stevia sweetener and then I switched it up by adding a specialty honey Naked Wild’s Honey with Cinnamon on the second steep. Both were nice additions. This won’t be my go-to cup, based on personal preference that lands flavored blacks on the bottom of my list, but it was a nice cup to try. Happy Sipping!
This is really good, I don't taste the chocolate so much but the vanilla and caramel are def present. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with something called Tiger's Eye so I was really surprised it was so good.
If you like dessert teas, you will love this blend! Like a delicious caramel fudge in a cup. It reminds me of whoppers without all the sugar.
This chocolate-caramel-vanilla flavoured black tea brews into a strong, intense cup of tea. I happen to love strong tea, so I appreciated the intensity, which mellowed beautifully with the addition of soymilk. Yummy!
This one provides exactly what it advertises - strong chocolate and caramel flavors all the way through. Careful not to oversteep, it really bites if you do.
Opened this communiTEA packet this morning to a whiff of heaven - rich caramel and chocolate wafted right up to entice.
I followed steeping instructions to the letter this first time around, but find that despite being called tiger -eye-, this tea has a LOT of -bite-. It's very astringent, but fortunately that's easy enough to manage. I added brown sugar for sweetener to keep in line with that rich flavor profile, and added a bit of creamer, which really brought out the buttery smoothness of the caramel. It's still astringent, but more as an afterthought which isn't so bad, and I would definitely try this tea again at a lower temp.
(3min @ 212ºF w/brown sugar & creamer)
A pleasant blend of chocolate, vanilla, and black tea, it's like warm comforting blanket- a very nice start to a rough morning. Definitely use a lower temp water to brew this as it can become bitter very easily (though some sugar saved my cup for sure).
2/7/22 Amending my old review. I think my tastebuds have changed drastically. Tiger eye has become a very bitter tea time. Even blends containing it have become unpleasant. I don’t know if it’s the Ceylon tea, or the caramel flavoring, but it’s just become an unpleasant tea.
Fabulous chocolate flavor! This tea smelled amazing even before brewing.
Nice black tea with notes of caramel and chocolate. Used a cooler temp (195) and shorter steep times to help keep the bitterness at bay. This tea works well in a blend.
The caramel flavor in this tea is really good. I love caramel but I think this might be the first time I have it in tea. I added cream and sugar which really brought out the flavors and made this super enjoyable.
This tea was a delicious treat to start my day. The flavors are excellently balanced and nothing is overpowering. I was able to enjoy this tea as part of my CommuniTea box, but will definitely be ordering more. I look forward to trying this one with a little milk or cream and some rock sugar.
I truly enjoyed this tea. It was very yummy and smooth.
Strong bitter tea. Probably needs a quick steep rather than the 3 minutes I gave it.
A very bold tea flavor, and I mostly get hints of caramel more than any of the other flavors.
I enjoyed the aroma from the bag. The first sip was strong, all I got was the black tea. As it cooled the caramel and chocolate flavors came through with the vanilla rounding it out. Very nice.
