A classic combination. Smooth, deeply fruity currant flavor (similar to raisin) with bright Ceylon tea.

This is a very nice tea, it's a bit heavy on the black tea. The sweet currant fruitiness is there, I just wish it was a little bit stronger.

I liked this quite a lot! 3.5min at 195F plus rock sugar for a strong black tea with jammy currant flavor but I still did get bitterness. I don’t blame the Ceylon (I welcome a bit of that from the black tea tannins in general) but I do wish there were fewer raspberry leaves in my CommuniTEA packet. They may have been meant to provide extra tartness but in my opinion they tend to add an extra bitter quality instead.

There is more currant flavor this time around. It's not one of my favorites on its own, but I do enjoy it in blends.

Original review:
I didn't get much currant flavor from my CommuniTEA packet. This tea smelled much better than it tasted.

Tasty!! I always have a bit of a struggle with Adagio's flavored black teas, since they have a strong bitter/astringent component -- I still love them and this one is no exception! With a little bit of milk, the currant flavor comes out beautifully. Nice and sweet!

Nice tea. I don’t think I’d buy this one, but the flavor was good. Not bitter and had a nice tart currant flavor. I usually don’t drink too many fruity teas, but this one was nice.

Berry black tea with natural tartness. This one shines with some sweetener.

1/24: yeah, realized I don't know what currant tastes like. smells of honey, raisin aftertaste, not much flavor between but nice.

nice - tastes of raspberry a little? Otherwise a little like a raising.

The packet did carry a fruity aroma but none of that flavor materialized. Was more like a meh English breakfast.

Another nice fruity tea. Again not one I would like to drink daily, but it's still good. I brewed this tea for 3 min at 185 degrees.

This tea was so yummy. I didn't steep it as long is it said to. The flavor is so very pleasant.

Update: This time I steeped it for the whole three minutes and it was just as yummy. I will be trying this tea cold brewed at some point.

1/17/24 Update: I still enjoy this tea, but I'm knocking one star off. The currant flavor was lacking a bit this time around. I tasted more black tea than fruit. However, I do love this one in blends.

My cup was brimming over with the bold taste of currant. For once the Ceylon took a backseat in this blend. The tea was fruity and delicious; and I detected a hint of raspberry on the cool down. This tea is sweet enough on its own. For those who prefer the darker berries, this is a winner.

I like this black tea... It's fruity and adding monk fruit sweetener helped curb the astringency from the black tea. I enjoyed. I image it would taste good as an iced tea as well.

Didn't really like this one. Any fruit or berry flavor was very mild and the tea was a bit too bitter for me.

Deep color and robust flavor in this one! Be careful not to over steep as it does get a little bitter. Perfect to sip on as the weather gets cooler.

I can really smell and taste the current in this flavored tea -- it's hard to find a good currant black tea. Definitely ordering again.

Cannot beat this tea. It is my go to even when I try others, I always come back to this tea. Don't pass it up.

I love a good currant tea. It has a slightly fruity flavor that blends well with the black tea. It is slightly creamy and smooth.

My husband has always enjoyed currants. He drinks this when he wants to relive his days overseas drinking currant flavored things.

★★★★☆

Very similar to blackberry, in my opinion, but I like it. It's not as flavorful as the blackberry, but I would buy it again to have variety. It is in my regular rotation.

This is a tea I buy a almost every time. It doesn't have a very strong black current taste but it is a very nice fruity sort of tea and works excellently in blends.

1/10/22 UPDATE from 1/10/22: As a black tea, this one is pretty bitter. There is a slight berry aroma from the CommuniTEA packet. The dark leaves steep at a lower temp since it is a black tea and has raspberry leaves - both of which can get bitter. The color is a dark red/orange and the smell is berry. Oh, the taste is still very bitter, so adding 1/2 teaspoon of sweetener (to 10 oz) and some heavy whipping cream calms that. It is now a tart berry tea that pairs well with sweets. The second steep was less bitter, so luckily the raspberry leaves must have worn out. ( 3 mins @ 200ºF + sweetener and cream).

A tasty black tea with mild fruit flavors, currant isn't my fruit of choice, but it makes a nice, slightly tart balanced tea.

Not a lot of flavor in this tea when hot, but as it cooled and jammy flavor came thru and I added just a bit of pure cane sugar and the currant flavor burst through the black tea for a delightful cup! I think this tea would be excellent iced!

Wonderful tasting tea, although the currant and rasberry leaf flavor could be a touch stronger. Sugar really brings up the taste, so keep that in mind.

Update Feb '23: Still wouldn't place this among my faves but did enjoy today's Communitea sample enough to move from 3 to 4 stars. The dark fruit flavor seems to make this black tea taste heavier/ robust. No bitterness this time helped me enjoy my cup to the last sip.
Original: I would need to experiment with this tea quite a bit to try and find its sweet spot. Tried 195 for 2.5 min and found the rasberry leaves still made the tea bitter. There was a dark fruit flavor present but it was fairly hidden by the black tea and rasberry leaf base. May not be for me but, If you like a strong, robust and astringent tea with a hint of dark fruit, this could be a tea for you.

I decided that I'd try this one cold brewed since fruit teas tend to taste stronger cold to me. This tea wasn't bad, but it didn't have a strong taste other than black tea. The fruit flavor I did get was raspberry rather than currant, but it wasn't very prominent.

This tea was okay. Perhaps I am spoiled by other teas I’ve had that had actual black and/or red currants in the tea mix rather than just flavors. I realize that do to seasonality this tea availability would be more limited with the actual fruit pieces but would give a much fruitier taste. CT 2/23/23 3 min at 212.

A good berry flavored black tea. Solid black tea base with tart currant. Not one I would order, but a solid cup of flavored black tea. 4 minutes, 212F.
1/10/22 - fruit flavor still a bit too light for me. When I rebrewed for a 2nd cup, I added a bit of dewy cherry to bring out the fruit flavor a bit more. That really helped.
2/23/2023 - still light on the currant taste, but a nice cup of tea. Good hot or cold-brewed.

When I opened my CommuniTEA packet, I smelled strong aromas of currants. I steeped the tea for 3 minutes. The currant flavor balances really nicely with the Ceylon black tea. I was worried that the black tea would overpower the flavor, but it surprisingly didn't. This was a nice, berry forward tea!

Nice cup of tea with the added heavy cream! Before I added the cream it was slightly too astringent for me and I didn't enjoy the bitterness I picked up from it. It was great with the cream though! No sweetener needed. This tea is delicious by itself or used in a blend with caramel tea and vanilla tea! 195 for 3 minutes.

I was really looking forward to this CommuniTEA packet because I am a huge fan of all things black currant flavored! The tea quality is good but the currant flavor wasn't as rich as other black currant teas that I have tried.

I really can't say this tea tasted like currant, or even much fruit at all. When I opened the packet, it smelled like...mint? Very odd. As for flavour-profile, the only notable characteristic was tannin. And lots of it. I think the raspberry leaves and ceylon completely overpowered any currant flavour that should have been in this tea. It wasn't a bad cup, just was not as advertised.

CommuniTEA 2/23/23 The smell upon opening was wonderful. The color was rich and dark and the raspberry and currant flavors different in a nice way. I did add a bit of splenda and that helped with slight bitterness. This would be great in a blend and I have one on my wish list! Enjoy.

I absolutely adore all things currant. This tea is absolutely wonderful! The flavor is present, but not overwhelming. However, the flavor does linger. I don’t think I could drink this everyday, but it might be lovely as a dessert tea with ice cream or even in a tea latte

In the bag: Just the twisted, brittle, black leaves of ceylon and a few finely chopped green-brown raspberry leaves. The ceylon also appears to have been chopped up - these leaves are shorter than what I usually see.

On the nose (pre-steep): A jammy, tart, berry scent is the only flavor. Not a sweet jammy - more of the astringent, savory variety.

On the nose (post-steep): The tart, jammy flavor survived the steep. But as with most flavored blacks, it has diminished and is now balanced by the unsweetened cocoa of ceylon.

On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Even though I steeped at a lower temp than usual for blacks, astringency still overpowers the other flavors. I get undertones of current and Ceylon, but they're secondary notes.

On the tongue (post-sweetener): Sweetener reduces some of the astringency but not all. It doesn't do much to accent the other flavors.

Opinion: Unfortunately, this one is a dud. It's just too astringent to enjoy. The currant smelled pleasant pre-steep though. I wish I could have tasted it.

Preparation: First steep 3 min, second steep 6 min. Both @ 175 ℉. ½ teaspoon monk fruit sweetener. I chose the lower temperature to avoid the bitterness many others have observed.
